With a bit of tweaking, I now get, with signals ranging from 65-98%, all available DT channels except for WVNY (ABC); whats strange is I can't even get a signal of 2% despite everything else coming in from every other directions.

With 300's feedback, I'm building a "proper" SBGH tommorow; I will post the pre and post signal results...

Yes I'm getting it from an antenna in the attic. Bare limit for all my tuners (Hauppauge) and my TV (ViewSonic). It's kinda 95% available for me.

I get it 80 % of the time with a CM7777 preamp and a Delhi 10y13s.

I had to try 3 locations on my roof before finding the sweet spot and it's not the ideal situation.

Whit WVNY pumping out 600 watts at my location, nothing is ideal.

Kraven, can you be more specific about your location? :)

I am looking for a quick/cheap/temporary way to get CBS;

the objective is to have access to Superbowl's US commercials next sunday.

What would be a recommended "temporary" antenna setup?

I don't mind installing outside but I'll try to avoid getting in the attic

I have access to any type of hardware/tools if you recommend building one.
Just tell me where I can get the plan details.

I have a recent Toshiba TV with 8VSB ATSC and QAM digital tuning.

I am looking for a good balance between price/ease of installation/signal strenght.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

The place to buy the antenna would be in here: OTA: Quebec Parts, Sales, Service, Installers (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=51078)

You should also start reading this thread carefully to see other people experience.

Thanks for your help, I think I'll try a Channel master antenna. They seem to have it at KGE in St-Bruno. Thx

123qweasd, just for CBS, you don't need to buy a commercial antenna.

Following the SBGH plans, and using just household materials (stripped rg-6, coat hangers), my antenna, which doesnt have one straight angle and is ugly to boot, is sitting on the floor near the tv and am able to pick CBS @ 85%.

xebbmw, we seem to be from the same area (I'm in the new area behind the Petro Canada on St-Jean).

Anyways, after some tweaking and repositioning, I'm able to get a 14.1 locked @ 77% w/ a "No Signal" banner...

I'll look into the DB this weekend after a trip to Rona.

Cheers, K

I have built a DB-4 antenna with coat hangers and a 2x4 with no reflector because I want to get channels from Montreal and from the USA (non directional). I am planning to put the antenna in the attic (30 feet above ground with no obstacles near my house) with a preamp CM7777, then to a 3-way splitter and then to all my TVs. Total distance from my antenna to the TVs is about 100 feet of Coax RG6.

Right now, the antenna is close to my TV (horrible looking!) I think the reception is okay, but still a bit fragile so I would like to know if using a DB-8 antennas would give me a better signal than my DB-4?

Also, I would like to know if the DB-8 can be used without reflector in order to have it non-directional?

Is there a much better antenna I should build easily instead ?

Thanks for helping me !

I just bought a multi-directinonal 8-bay antenna yesterday,I mounted it on a 25 foot 1 in. pole, braced it to my back balconey. I got all u.s.a. channel's (exceped ABC) & got 2,6,12,17,35,46 crysal clear. But when I got up this morning I turned on the tv and only got wcfe-57 for u.s.a. channel's and all the cnd channel's were snowy.
It is very windy today and the pole that my antenna is on is swaying quite abit, would that be the cause to lose my channel's.

Yes, the wind has changed your antenna's aim. We need your location, please (neighbourhood or nearest major street corner).

I 'm in Chateauguay at Smith and Maple. If it's the wind ,I can take it off the pole and mount it on my roof where the wind should'nt move it anymore.

Kraven, do you mean La Prairie?

Did you build your SBGH? How it is installed? In the attic or outside?

I guess except from WVNY you should get everything (US channels) with a SBGH if it is properly oriented in the correct direction. Depending how long is your cable maybe you should add also and pre-amplifier. In my case I build a DBGH to get WVNY and I am using a CM3410 as pre-amplifier, I have no issues with the signal quality. I get about 19 digital channels (including also sub channels) from US and local Montreal stations.

Take care

Yep Laprairie....

I'm still working on the SBGH... The reflectors are measured and cut, and the element is made.

The earlier version I had, on the floor, captured a good signal on 14.1.. so I was kinda perplexed.

19 channels? I'm guessing ABC has a subchannel?

19 channels? I'm guessing ABC has a subchannel?

ABC has a sub channel which is 480i on 4:3, the same channel as on the main one (the main one is 720p in 16:9).
