I really don't think a notch for 12 will help you, when CFCF shut down the emmiter (does not happend often) it change nothing), anyway analog spill mostly on the previous channel (In this case 11).

I can get CH11 Global Sherbrooke with the 10Y13s, so CFCF is not interfering much with that.

Global Sherbrooke is very snowy, but I see no interference.

I sent an Email to CFCF engineering to see when or if they will do a shut down.

If nothing else, they will do one next summer when CBC installs their new antenna on Mount Royal.

Good stuff but expensive. If I would be sure that I would get better results I would purchase the filter now.

There is an inexpensive way to DIY a notch filter with 300ohm wire using the Quarter-wave stub that could help you with that decision. Kro posted a link some times ago but it go moved by the host. Here is the new article link:

Various Solutions to Interference (http://www.selfhelpandmore.com/interference/various-solutions-to-interference.php)

Basically, it's a length of 300ohm wire dangling from the feed point of the antenna, one end with wires attached to each pole of the feed point, the other end just cut off. For VHF channel 12 you would require an approximate length of 30cm (7500 * 0.83 / 207mhz). Cut 31cm and when it's installed, cut 1mm at a time until channel 12 fades away.

I never tried that myself.

EDIT: I found the original post from Kro in the "QC - City of Montreal - OTA" Thread along with explanation: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=672627&postcount=389

I don't think CFCF give me an interference. I've receive a reply from CFCF Engineering for the shut down

You just missed Sunday night; the next one scheduled is Sunday night – Monday morning November 30, 2:37 – 6:00 AM.

Is there a way I can monitor WVNY-DT at that time without being up?

Also, I finished my log about SRC Mauricie CH 13. When they go semi-off air with the red schedule at 2:30 am, I can see a bit in the background ( it is easier to read the text then a moving picture) on my TV on CH 13-0 with the 10Y13s and at the same time I cannot get WVNY-DT.

When I really see almost only snow an ch 13-0, I get WVNY-DT at 3 bars out of 10 bars on my Samsung TV.

So it is official, it is CKTM SRC Mauricie that is causing me problems.

I will see after the analog shut down in February if WVNY-DT comes in better, I don't think so but I can dream about them increasing their signal.

It is too late now for modifications, I will wait in the spring.

The US analog shutdown will not affect either CFCF or CKTM's current analog transmitters.

You have to wait until Sept 1, 2011 to see the effect of CKTM and CFCF reducing power when they start to broadcast ATSC.
Another thing you can try is varying the both the vertical and horizontal angles of your 10y13 -- you may find a sweet spot that picks up slightly less of CKTM and slightly more of WVNY.

Unfortunately, it's not something you're likely to want to do in the middle of the night when CKTM is broadcasting the red screen.

So it is official, it is CKTM SRC Mauricie that is causing me problems.CKTM SRC channel 13 is from Trois Rivieres, according to Industry Canada's database. I cannot find Mauricie in it or on a map. Can someone please clarify the location of the station causing intravino's interference for me?

intravino,

Is there a way I can monitor WVNY-DT at that time without being up?

I do with a tuner card in a pc. I made myself a small utility that can monitor a channel and then triggers tsreader (or something else) when it meets the threshold.

Mauricie

CKTM belongs to SRC now. I believe they call it "SRC Mauricie". Mauricie is the region that Trois Rivieres is in, just as "SRC Estrie" is based in Sherbrooke, a major centre in the Eastern Townships (which is called l'Estrie in french).

Mauricie is the St. Maurice River valley. The St Maurice is one of the "Three Rivers".

OK thanks guys!

intravino, is there any chance you can put up a big wall in the direction of Mauricie to block the signals? :D

I think it would be very ugly and the Town would send me Lawyer letters in a nanosecond. :D:eek::rolleyes::p

Last night was the best night for WVNY-DT. 3 bars constantly until 9:30 pm, then It was gone.

I guess I will have to purchase an other 10y13s from Raybel or used one from someone this spring.

Or I could purchase two 5y13s and stack them horizontally also.

I"m just worried about making a good mount for two 10y13s.

Smog: I will pass on your filter even If I am sure that it is a good price because I don't have any problems with UHF interference.

I live in Brossard, near Dix-30 and can get a good number of channels using a DIY DB4:

SRC
CBC
CBS
NBC
FOX
PBS
whatever channel 57 is

all in digital of course. Using an Autumnwave USB tuner. Now, I can't get all channels at once, but if I rotate it around, I get them all.

Antenna is sitting in a spare beroom looking out a window. I am thinking of going all out now and get a Channel Master 4228 and 75 feet RG6.

I know a couple places in Montreal and Laval, but does anyone have a source on the South Shore?

I feel defeated after exhausting every option to receive digital reception. I've written some of my story a few months ago and things haven't improved at all.

I live in Dunham, Quebec (lots of hills and valleys). I've had a multi directional rooftop antenna for over 30 years and have always captured the main US networks (except ABC 22).

Last winter I purchased a digital converter box, plugged it in and discovered I could only receive WCFE at 99% and WETK at 20%. After months of researching I decided to purchase a channel master 4228 antenna to help me get the US channels. Today I had the installer at my house for 2 hours and in the end nothing worked. So here I am.....$500 dollars gone with nothing to show for it. All these promises that they keep telling us on tv about getting more channels by just purchasing a digital converter box is bull.

Oh yeah, the satellite option is iffy too. The installer went around the house and said that I would have to dig a 4 ft hole, fill it with cement and a 6 foot metal pole on a remote part of my property in order to get Star Choice and no promises about a stable reception. That would cost around $40 per month plus installation.

So here I am dreading February 17th with all my heart. No more tv. Yes, CTV and Global are still coming in for now, but the US stations are really such a vital part of my life. So, now I have to listen to the radio....in 2009 we are taking a huge step backwards. I CANNOT believe this is happening. Everything was fine before. Can someone please tell me why they can't add some transmitters at the same location where they are broadcasting WCFE PBS? This would fix the mess for many of us. I just am completely out of ideas at this point.
