: 6100 Info screen problems - Flashing - LCD TV issue.
I apologize if this has been covered somwhere before, but I have searched the forums and could not find an answer.
If our 6100 receiver has not been used for a while (usually more any more than 2 hours), one we try to use it again, the program information screen (the one that pops up if you hit the info button on the remote) continuously flashes, and we cannot use the remote at all. This usually last for about 10 minutes, before it stops, and everything goes back to normal.
I've tried resetting and unplugging the receiver, I've spoken with a CSR who had no idea what to do about it, and I've even tried taking the batteries out of the remote to make sure that wasn't the problem.
Any ideas???
Around 2 weeks ago I received a new 6100 receiver as a replacement for a defective unit. Now that I have the new unit installed, I am having the exact same issue as before.
The problem is that the program info screen continuously flashes on and off for about 15 minutes after you start using the receiver. Given that this is the 2nd receiver, is this a problem with the line coming from my dish? Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've called Bell 5 or 6 times and no one there seems to have any idea what I'm talking about. It is getting very frustrating!
Lindsay649 2007-01-09, 10:43 AM Have had the same problem since just before Christmas when we hooked up the new Toshiba LCD. It occurs about five or six times in the first ten or fifteen minutes and thats it. At first I though someone else had a new Evu in the neighbourhood but the info screen was the only problem. It was not an issue with the old TV set which was analogue......maybe it has something to do with the HD circuit. Hope we are not the only two people in the world with this problem.
After speaking with someone at Bell last night (again) I finally was able to talk to a senior tech, who figures that the problem is with the remote, rather than the receiver.
I re-addressed the remote last night, so if that doesn't fix the problem, they will send me another remote. Hopefully this will take care of it. In the past I tried removing the batteries from the remote and that didn't solve the problem, so I have my doubts.
Lindsay649 2007-01-10, 11:58 AM Problems with the remote sounds like a longshot but keep us posted. May change ours today as I think the second remote from the 9200 will also work the 6100.
Well after re-addressing the remote, last night was the first night in months that there were no problems with the info screen. Amazing. I'm going to wait a couple days before I start to believe that the problem is solved, but this is a good start.
Funny that the first half-dozen CSR's I talked to didn't suggest that possible solution.
Lindsay649 2007-01-11, 04:12 PM Changed the address from 1 to 4 and waited a couple of hours before turning on the tv.........no change......info screen still shows up. Back to the drawing board.
For those of you with LCD TVs, these TVs are known to cause issues with some STBs, especially when they're warming up. See Things to check first (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=19694) (point 16).
If you have the option to turn the backlight down on the LCD, that may help.
Well it's been about 3 full days since I re-addressed the remote, and I have not had a problem since. To say I'm surprised that it worked is an understatement. Bell could have saved themselves the cost of sending me a brand new receiver if one of the first dozen people I talked to had suggested this remedy!
Lindsay649 2007-01-15, 01:09 PM When you re-addressed the remote.....did you change to a differant address or retained the original one. Wonder why it worked for you and not for me?
Try another address. The one you tried may be subject to the same interference...
I changed it from address 1 to 10 and it seemed to work immediately.
I just joined this forum to search for info on this exact problem. I started getting this problem as soon as I bought my 46 inch Sony Bravia LCD. I had a 3100 at the time but figured it was old and just coincidence that problems arose.
I soon had my 6100 for HD on the new TV and same problem. So no, it was not the remote, it is not the receiver...it is the LCD!!!
I called Bell and after dealing with plenty of CSRs, I finally got one who told me that it was interference from the TV and that the receiver should be placed as far from the TV as possible. If that fails (which it did), she told me to change the angle of the receiver with respect to the TV. I changed the receiver to sit at a ninety degree angle to the TV and have not had the problem since.
What I am wondering is if there is another fix for this (the receiver looks kinda funny sitting in my cabinet sideways), and what exactly is my TV giving off that is messing with the receiver so badly? Is this a fault in the design of the receiver, such as not enough shielding? Or is it a fault with the TV? Who should be at the other end of my complaint calls - Sony or Bell?
Thanks!

Depending on the TV model, you have several options, including a proper setup of the TV which often solves the issue.
This is not a BEV issue but an LCD issue. Since this thread discussed readdressing the remote, I'll leave it here, unlike the similarly-awakened year-old thread I moved yesterday!
