Hey everyone! I just purchased a 32" Viewsonic LCD and need to find a replacement remote control for it. The caveot is this, the tv is for my grandmother and the only things she needs is channel and volume control... any other buttons confuses her. Plus those remotes that control dvd/vcr/cable/etc. often cause her to press a button such as DVD and then her channels won't work. For years this wasn't a big deal bc she lived with me but now she is in elderly housing and I cannot run two towns over every time her remote control "stops working".

Anyone know of a SIMPLE remote control that works with Viewsonic??

So, while I had BEV on the line because of issues with my 2 month old 5900 (which is now being replaced) I spoke to a level 3 tech about the code for Viewsonic. Just happens that this tech knows Viewsonic very well...he new that they are very new to TVs....he also has one at home.

Anyway, he said there are no universal codes for VS yet. (A quick search on the net seems to confirm this) It will likely come, but not for a bit. He suggested though, that some old codes for other TV brands may in fact work for at least power on and off, volume.

He suggested a manual scan, but given there are thousands of codes, he suggested first setting the TV button to a 500 code. From there, go into a manual scan (see your manual) and scan up. He said we may be lucky and find one that at least works the power and/or volume functions.

I hope to try this in the next few days. If I am so lucky to find a code that works, I will post here.

Hello,
does anyone know how to get out the service menu? I'm trying the "menu 9-9-1" thingy but it doesn't work.

To get out of the service menu you have to turn the TV off.

I've had this unit for 5 days now. The picture quality is actually good. Regular cable is pretty good when you watch it at its normal screen size. But here are the problems I have encountered:

I connected my Shaw hd reciever to the tv by a Dvi-Hdmi cable. Since DVI is only video, I used a set of audio cables from the audio out of reciver to audio in of tv, got no sound. Tried an optical spdif cable, still no sound. I connected the audio out of shaw reciever to a stereo reciever and I got great sound. So then, I removed the dvi to hdmi cable and tried the YPbPr connection with audio cable and it worked perfect.

Next i cannected my Dvd player to the tvs normal video and audio inputs and it works ok. I removed the audio cable and replaced it the optical spdif and no sound.

Viewing area is not great, You watch it a little to the side and the color washes out. You have to be in front of tv to enjoy the very clear HD reception.

I called Viewsonic and all the lady that answered my query can say is " return it to Costco. Knowing Costco, I will wait for a while to return it. They might get another model in soon.

Barry, you need to get a HD cable box from Rogers to get HD signal.

I have two of these, one built in Nov 06 and one in Jan 07. The Nov built one is great - great picture and great colour. Viewing angle is a problem (colour washes out when viewed off-axis) but it's location dependent.

The Jan built one is way too grainy. I noticed they have different firmware versions on them. I suspect the new one set the sharpness setting way too high even when it's @ 0. I called Viewsonic about this and all they told me was "the newer one should be better so return it to Costco". Anyone else has similar observation?

I am having similar problems. I am trying to connect the DCT2500 via optical cable directly to the TV while the Video is being delivered via S-Video. I cannot get any sound via the optical cable. I see the red light at the end of the cable. I will test it with a DVD player from another room to see if the TV is the problem or the optical out on the DCT2500 is the issue.

I am also not thrilled with the picture. I have used the advanced settings as per a post above (beginning of this thread). The whites hurt my eyes. I think my eyes maybe spoiled by the great picture from my professionally calibrated Panasonic plasma. Is this what I should expect from the TV? Crushing whites, and lousy SD picture. My kids think it look great for the Wii (the main use of the TV) and I have not had a chance to look at it with HD source yet.

Is this what I should expect from LCDs? Are the more expensive Sharp's and Sony's much better to warrant the increment price?

The optical jack on the TV is for Optical output not input. Helps to read the manual!

I got this set on impulse, after nearly buying a HanSpree 32", then an Olivia 37", and then another 37 Viewsonic. I was wandering around and they were $549, $699 and $739 respectively, and I kept standing in front a dull brown box. I thought it a 32" which I had planned on getting until I saw them beside a 37" screen. I read the specs, it was the Viewsonic 3752w, refurbished. And it was only, $469! I got the year warranty for $85, and took a shot.
Visually the TV is very sleek and attractive. Well balanced frame, and I think my screen leans a little forward.
I have DVD (s-video), PS2 (Component), sat and VCR (Composite), and rabbit ears!
The best picture I have is the OTA CBC 5-1. Its the only one I pick up in the basement in southern Richmond Hill. It came in at 1080i, and Harry Potter was incredible. DVD looks alright now that I set my player to output in 16x9. It will be nice once I get an upconverting DVD player via HDMI. Bell ExpressVu - Reg, is viewable when wide selection is set to "wide 3" It trims a little off the top and enlarges it so there are less side mattes. Copied/compressed via DVDShrink DVDs now show lots of pixalizations. My remote hasn't had the 'long delay' issue I read about in other places. I have not tweaked the settings but soon will. Just letting the thrill wear off a little before I play with fine adjustments (if need be). My PS2 looked bad until I went component, and then I kicked in progressive scan, and now Guitar Hero and RockBand look sweet and viberant.
I am now very happy I got the set.

I will keep you updated once I add that DVD player in a few weeks.

PS: Any one know where to get optical cables from cheaply/reasonable? I want to run one from the set to the AMP so I can utilize the 5.1 speakers by connecting everything to the TV. I am in the Young n Steels area.

Most computer stores carry optical cables at reasonable prices compared to big box store prices.
Cheapest place would probably be monoprice.com if your willing to wait about 2weeks for shipping.
