OK, so Wii is only 480p, but I was just curious, if you've unpacked you new Wii and connected it up to your 42" or larger HDTV, what are your impressions?

I connected it using the supplied RCA cable to a 42 inch LCD projection TV. I am not unhappy with the picture. I am also not a hard-core gamer so take that for what its worth. The game has a very cool interface. This is what I think video games should be like regardless of the graphics.

Hello all.

I have an addiction. An addiction to video games. If it is in the store, I need it in my home.
360? Check.

PS3? Check.

Wii? Check.

Gears of War is great. I have spent hours with this game.

Resistance is a good game too. I have only scratched the surface, but I know that I will like it.

But, despite it simplistic nature, the game system that will be getting the most use over the holidays in my household?

The Wii. Already this morning, my three year old daughter has set up "Mii's" for herself, mom and dad. She has invited her grandparents over so that she can make their characters tonight. And, while I am down here getting my NFL pool up and running for the day (and posting on Digital Home!), I can hear my wife and daughter upstairs bowling, golfing, and playing tennis. (This from a lady who hasn't touched a 360 controller in the year that we have had the machine.)

Kudos to you Nintendo! Keep the family friendly games coming, and you will have a huge hit on your hands.

Not a surprise. The Nintendo has always been the first choice for families and young children.

Sony and MS will always be for adults.

Enjoy !!

Wish I could have got one today. I stopped by the Game Invasion in Dundas square and got a decent view of most of the launch titles for the Wii on a bunch of small to midsize LCD televisions.

It looked pretty decent. I tried to ask one of the Nintendo reps if they were using the component hookup on the TV's but he didn't know.

God, I wish I could have got my hands on a console and Zelda today. The game looks incredible.

That's great. I new it was directed towards families and kids but a 3 year old playing the games and setting up miis - amazing!

It's even more fun than I expected. My wife and I played Wii all day. I rented Monkeyball, and some of those minigames are pretty fun. I like the snowboarding, racing and the one where you shoot asteroids (kind of like Duck Hunt).

Mostly, we played Wii Tennis and Bowling.

I got a crazy error where it wouldn't recognize Golf on the Wii Sports disc after a while. I thought it was a disc problem, but I unplugged the Wii, replugged, booted up and everything's been fine since. I only mention this if anyone else gets the problem.

It'll be nice when the component cables come in this week and I can play it on the big TV.

I've been playing alot of Wii on my 50", the image quality ain't bad, but once I receive my component cable the image quality will improve drastically for the better.

connected to my 53" pioneer RP WS, and its actually much better than I figured. With the component it will obviously be even better.

Haven't bought a gaming console since the original Nintendo. They finally did something that will bring their name out and above all the rest once again. This system ROCKS.

I've hooked it up using the standard composit cables to my 32" LCD HDTV and it looks alright. Has some grainyness but I have to wait until nintendo ships me my component cables.

My problem with the system, is the wireless internet. I don't know if it hates my router or what, but I've crashed the system once because it froze waiting for a signal from it to connect to the Wii Shopping Channel. It also took me 20 minutes to download the system update. Don't know if thats because 1.5million people were downloading it at the time, or if its still my router. When I first hooked it up, it wasn't even getting signal from my router, had to reset it.

I've hooked it up using the composite cable to a 46" LCD tv (Sony KDL46XBR2), and the quality was actually a lot better than I expected. Of course, the graphics are pretty low-res to begin with, but the games are quite playable. Needless to say, I will grab the component cables when they come out, but I suspect that it won't be a huge difference in quality.

James, I do have to caution you that my daughter has been genetically designed to be a gamer. She is destined to be a nerd like her dad!

She had more fun making Mii's than she did trying to bowl or play tennis.

Thanks for the impressions. I'm all about the PS3 (fall dead-center in Sony's target market) but it's interesting to hear confirmations of what people have been touting about the Wii. For anyone looking for a more family-friendly system, this looks like the ticket for sure!

Is it that ugly white that attracts the wives? ;) Whatever it is, it most definately seems to appeal to wives and kids much, much more than something like the 360 and PS3.

My kid is turning 5 at the beginning of dec. and has never really played any video games before. the wife loved playing mario brothers back in the day of 2D.

If I can find one do you guys think my kid will be able to play? What games would you recommend for the wife and kid?

Thanks

Joe

My reccomendations are as follows:

The wife:
Download the original Mario for I think 200 points. Its the oldschool first one for the NES. I'm sure she will get a kick out of that. Wii sports also has you covered here, as well as WarioWare. It's got a bunch of minigame things on there thats designed to really show off what you can do with the Wii controller.

For your kid:
The best games are probably Excite Truck and Rayman: Raving Rabids. Excite truck is simple enough that I watched a 5 year old review it on youtube. He claimed it was easier and funner to play than the PS3 or 360 controllers. Rayman is another game full of minigames but their more designed for the children in the family. Games like cow tossing and I think theres one where you clap hands with a character or something. Not sure on that one I haven't played the game but it seems to be more for the kids.

For you:
Zelda. Zelda. Zelda. Did I mention Zelda?

The Wii is a blast.

Got one yesterday, and spent 4 plus hours playing, have not done that in a long time.

My kids are 4 and 7, and have been playing Gamecube for a year or so, so its a plus being able to use these games as well.

Last night, went to visit the grandparents, and brought along the Wii.

Grandma was bowling with my son (the 4 year old), and at first thought she would let him win, but then it got serious, and she had to beat him.

He loves the Tennis.

Left the house this morning, and the kids where up playing Zelda, and doing some boxing, so yes the game will get some use.

Picked up Rayman: Raving Rabbits yesterday, have not tried it yet.

Nintendo has done a great job with this unit, simple, effective, interactive, and NOT expensive compared to the rest.

PS - it looked on the grandparents Hitachi 42"

Hard time believing the Wiimote can crack a screen. Funny nonetheless
