James. If the firmware update didn't solve the problem, are you running the PS3 wireless? If so, turn of the wireless function when Bluraying.

Spent a good chunk of the weekend playing F1. Man is it cool. That being said trying to run a full (100% ~70 lap) race with just the stock controller. More than a little frustrating. Any reccomendations for a force feedback wheel that does this game justice?

Yeah, I had F1 in my hand on Friday but saw Oblivion at the register and got that. I don't know what I was thinking, I finished Oblivion on the PC last year. Where will I find the time to finish it again? I gotta take it back and get F1.

On the topic of racing games: Motorstorm is brilliant!

Can you play PS 3 first person shooter with a keyboard/mouse bluetooth?

Unreal Tournament 3 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/gamespy/ps3-ut3-supports-keyboard-mouse-sixaxis-243125.php) will support mouse and keyboard.

In this article, Gran Turismo HD 2.0 Impressions (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/775/775420p1.html), they mention that Gran Turismo HD 2.0 supports "four Logitech wheels, namely the Driving Force Pro, GT Force, Driving Force and Driving Force EX".

However, I thought F1 doesn't support Force Feedback. Perhaps it will with a downloadable patch now that sony and Immersion have settled. I would wait before buying a wheel.

1. If I have a wireless network at home, is it easy to connect the PS3 to it?

2. Do you pay to play online?

1. Yes, it is very simple. Search for available networks, select yours, and then enter your WEP/WPA key (you DO have your network secured, right?)

2. Online play is free of charge.

Yes, the network is secured. Sounds good. Look forward to online play.

Now I am just waiting for a price break (or promotion at work) to pick one up.

FS is offering the PS3 with 1 controller and remote for $699.

Can you clarify why its that important to have it secured.

If your WiFi network is unsecured people can get access to your internet connection and potentially you PC as well.

It took some strategic positioning to get my WiFi working. My router is upstairs and the unit is in my theater which is posing some interference issues. Funny since my Wii is also downstairs and furthe away from the router and it works fine.

I got the ps3 last december. I haven't used it an extreme amount - mainly just to watch blu ray movies and play the occasional game. A week or so ago it would shut itself off after being on for a couple minutes with blinking lights. The lights are supposed to mean its overheating but it was just turned on. A little while later it would finally come back on and it worked well enough to watch several dvds. Tonight I turned it on again and after 5 minutes (I was able to get into the ps3 store) it shut off again and now just beeps when I turn in on.

I'm so NOT impressed by this. I'll have to call the Sony number tomorrow and get them to issue a replacement. After reading some of the horror stories people have had here exchanging their 360's I am really not looking forward to this, I just hope Sony's support is better than Microsofts. :-(

Has anyone had to return their ps3 to Sony? If so, how did it go?

If anyone is curious...a follow up to my post yesterday. I called Sony today, waited about 5 minutes and then got a support. The guy was fine and after asking for the serial number and that information advised me that they would replace it. They are now shipping me a box. Hopefully that arrives sometime this week. I'll post an update after the process is complete to let people know the entire time it took. I am still very nervous about about shipping a $700 console. It would be great if I could just return it to walmart. Anyway, happy gaming to those of you with working ps3s! :-)

Hopefully they send you a new unit not a refurbished one. There has been mention of people getting refurbished units on the AVS forum.

I'm not quite sure why people make such a big deal out of refurbs. The standards a refurb has to be subjected to before leaving the plant is probably 3 times as stringent as brand new units.

If the refurb fails, they'll send another one. But I don't think the liklyhood of the refurb failing would ba any higher than a new unit.

An update...I got my replacement ps3 today. It took 2 weeks. I called them on a Monday, I got the box on Thursday, shipped it back on the following Tuesday and got the replacement console a week later. The unit I got back is different than the original one. I'm not sure if its technically brand new but it looks like it. Overall I was very satisfied with the customer service because it was relatively painless. The shipping was fast and I didn't have to argue with them on the phone. I couldn't have asked for more in terms of Sony fixing the issue for me.

I hope this one doesn't die but if it does Sony said my 1 year warranty is still active from the purchase date of the original console.
