PokerChip 2007-01-24, 05:32 PM eclipz,
how do you move your converted content to your PS3's hard drive? I tried putting an MP4 on a flash disk and when I plugged it in the USB, it did not work.
Will DVD do it?

The MP4 is on your flash drive. When it's plugged into the PS3 and highlighted just hit triangle and select display all. It should show all the files on the stick. You could also put a video folder on the root of the memory stick and put the videos in there. That way they show up in the PS3 XMB without having to do the "display all".
I wouldn't worry about burning a disk, just use your flash drive.
macemuscle 2007-01-25, 09:25 AM Yeah I'll have to check out CGC... my bro started playing it and said it's pretty good...
Unfortunatly, the only thing on the March release list that interests me is FEAR but I'm already playing it on 360... The games I'm really looking forward to are Half-Life 2 Ep 1/2, GTA and RE which will be much later this year (which will also be out on 360, but I think I'll get them for PS3)... Other than that not much looks interesting to me personally :(
No surprises here though as I've had the same experience with release of the 360 (the most annoying was the 360 ports of old Xbox games which I refused to play!)... even today, the pickings are still slim on 360 with no more than 1-3 games per quarter that I find interesting
I think the big question is how quickly will PS3 ramp up in terms of games and if/when PS3 content library will surpass 360... Regardless, I'll keep playing both
For now, may be I'll go back to my old Xbox and play games I have that I haven't played / finished yet!
lewdvig 2007-02-03, 07:29 PM I am not happy with my $700 purchase. Is anyone else feeling the same way?
Apparently there might be a price drop, but I don't know that it will make much difference without content. Almost all of the current games are available on other platforms. In cases where games are on PS3 and 360 the 360 version is better.
A useless paperweight is not a good deal at any price. There are not enough games and some of the ones they promised for Jan Feb are delayed for the Euro launch in late March. Resistance is just OK. A next gen Ratchet would have been better more compelling title IMO as it is something that can't found anywhere else. I can play any of a dozen games that are like Resistance. And don't buy the hype on the reviews of Resistance - that is a 75-80% scoring game tops.
So far the best thing on it has been the short GT HD demo. Where are Tekken and fLOw? It is like Sony is trying to torture its base.
Then there are all teh recent announcement of exclusives going multiplatform. With dwindling exclusives what is the point of having a PS3?
Got rid of my PSP today. I bought one launch day - the trickle of games made me eBay it. I got another one recently with gift cards. I thought homebrew would be fun - but who has time for that crap? I can run emulators better on my laptop. And look at the top-scoring games for PSP: Lumines and Wipeout were launch titles. Two years later and they have not been improved.
I mention the PSP because I think the PS3 is going to be the same thing. A bunch of promised features that get retracted after you buy one (1080p games being the first one). I see a lot of hype and potential that will never be realized. In short, something you will regret buying in a year when its clear how badly the platform is doing.
It is a cheap B-R player though. But one has to wonder why a BR STB is $1000 when the all powerful PS3 can be had for $560.
lewdvig 2007-02-03, 07:38 PM There is a product coming from eXecuter that enables USB host functionality.
I assumed this would work too. I know the PS3 can handle internal SATA drives up to 160 GB (I had one in mine for a bit), but what would you put on it, eh?
Hopefully when the Paradox ISO loader is released in March there will be some homebrew apps.
Gord Lacey 2007-02-03, 09:10 PM I am not happy with my $700 purchase. Is anyone else feeling the same way?
I'm having a blast with Resistance, and I'm waiting for a number of games coming out this month or the next. I own "Resistance" and "NHL 2K7" (waste of money due to the bugs on all the systems), and I bought "Cash Guns Chaos" off the store. I'll buy "flOw" and "Calling All Cars" the moment they show up on the store, and I'll go out and pick up "MotorStorm" and "Burnout 5" the day they're released.
I think we're going to see far fewer exclusives on the new consoles due to the cost to produce the games. Is that a bad thing? I don't know, but I own a PS3, and I'll buy games for the PS3. I'm not a big gamer, so I picked up a PS1 and a PS2 a few years after they were introduced. I'm giving Sony the benefit of the doubt with the console, and right now I'm enjoying a few games on it, as well as Blu-ray movies (I have 25 discs - 21 movies and the 4 episodes of "Discovery Atlas").

I don't know if 'not happy' describes the way I feel, but I'm certainly disappointed with the available software. The machine itself if great...certainly superior in many important regards to its nearest competitor...but the lack of titles is very frustrating.
For all of us who skipped getting Microsoft's halfways-to-next-gen machine and waited for a true next-gen product, I think we deserved a better launch experience.

hmmm... I am not sure that I agree that the 360 is half way next gen. All of the thing that define next gen for me are better on the 360: graphics (untill motostorm and F12007 come out) and online (for the foreseeable future) beeing the two big ones.
I am going to sell mine if I can and re-evaluate in the fall. Right now we have some promising release dates - but we all know how easy it is to delay them.
macemuscle 2007-02-05, 10:39 AM I definitely agree with you on the drought of good content for PS3... Game and movies...
However, I can tell you from my own experience that it was the same last year with 360!
It will get better, as it did for 360, but it will take a lot of time. Even today the 360 line up is not that great with no more than two or three good games per quarter
I wouldn't bank on a price drop anytime soon as the price is actually increasing in C$ as you can see http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=503179#post503179

My comment about it being a half-step to next-gen is not necessarily a negative...it was a calculated risk that Microsoft took in order to beat Sony to market by a year.
Microsoft is planning a major update to X360 to bring it 'next gen', so they will not really be far behind Sony in technological terms, and they will have an eight million console lead and larger software base to compete with.
Not a bad strategical play by Microsoft, as much as I loathe to give them credit. :D

Riiiiight...I'd really like to see your source for that one.
QuickSilver 2007-02-06, 09:18 AM Let's get back on topic.....
entropy05 2007-02-06, 11:45 AM I am not happy with my $700 purchase. Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Maybe you aren't suited to being an early adopter? All new consoles go through a post launch drought...if you can't deal with that, then why buy the console at/near launch?
I am happy with my $660 purchase, not because of the games available now, but because of the potential of the games to come.
PokerChip 2007-02-06, 12:02 PM Well, entropy, I am very much an early adopter when it comes to technology, and I understand your comment, but at the same time, I must partially agree with lewdvig.
The PS3 launch was/is a mess: availability of the consoles, lack of accessories (from Sony itself, which couldn't even release cables and DVD remote at the time of launch after delaying for so long), and the list of delayed games, which is about as long as released titles.
Had I known so many games were going to be delayed for so long, I would have probably waited, too. Raibow Six Vegas, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Gran Turismo, and the list goes on. It was expected that we wouldn't get 100 games at launch time, but we were deceived into thinking we would be able to play at least a handful of significant titles.
It's hard to understand, since the PS3 was definitely NOT rushed to market after being delayed for so long.
Riiiiight...I'd really like to see your source for that one.
Google "zephyr xbox" There's plenty of credible sources.
lewdvig 2007-02-06, 10:48 PM The Zephyr (which is simply a prototype at this stage) adds HDMI and cooler (which translates to quieter) chips. Playing games on it will be the exact same experience as playing games on a November 2005 360. Reading comprehension is not one of your fortes because no source ever claimed that it was anything more than a new rev.
As for comfort level with early adopter: I have been an early adopter of every console since the Saturn/PSX/N64. The PS3 was the worse launch in 12 years. Period. There was a single good game and everything else was delayed to the Euro launch.
fLow, Tekken and VF5 are out in two weeks - if my PS3 does not sell in the next few days I'll likely keep it. F1 and Motorstorm both look good too. And maybe we'll get that rumored Killzone demo.
Format C: 2007-02-07, 11:10 AM The wife got me a PS3 for my birthday (has to stay wrapped up until next week) but I'm wondering if all the game demos are still available. I've talked to a PS3 owner about them and they said there were a few available for download from the Sony store via the PS3. Can someone let me know if all are still there or if I should start trying to find them to download over the internet?
As for the Zephyr debate, if I can add my 2cents. Why would MS ‘leak’ news of a new version of an Xbox360 when they are trying to win a console war, especially during the first quarter? Wouldn't doing so only slow sales of the 360 down as people wait for the release of the new revision?
entropy05 2007-02-07, 12:43 PM Format--all the demos are still there on the PlayStation Store.
lewdvig 2007-02-07, 10:11 PM Get the Gran Turismo-HD demo first. It is sublime.
I sold my PS3 to a co-worker. I'll see you guys again when Ratchet and Clank comes out. I have no doubt that it is going to do well, but I don't need one right now.
Marco23 2007-02-12, 11:21 AM Just got a PS3, tried everything from formatting to every possible solution the ps network is timed out supposedly its days, this really sucks especially for some some one who has no movies or games yet.
I'm so mad I wonder if it was the 1.51 update that did this.
