Hazzard 2007-01-09, 01:41 PM eimaj,
Not sure if this answers your question but my TV (Sony CRT 1080i HDTV) outputs both 720p PS3 games like Resistance & 1080p Blu-ray movies at 1080i.
eimaj 2007-01-09, 01:49 PM Hazzard,
That's the great thing about the Sony crt's is that they accepted 720p and converted it to 1080i where my 2 year old Panny crt does not (buggers. If anyone knows of a fix for this, i'd be glad to hear it). That's why i'm wondering about 1080p downconvert to 1080i.
Thanks guys.
Any pic quality differences between hdmi and component 1080i? I'll be using my ps2 components when i pick it up, most likely today.
macemuscle 2007-01-10, 12:00 PM I still want to go back to the question eimaj asked which is:
If a TV accepts both 720p/1080i (but not 1080p). Would a 1080p game/movies be downconverted to 1080i or 480p????
eimaj 2007-01-10, 12:13 PM Macemuscle,
Hazzard said in the post above mine that movies and games will play in 720p and 1080i on his set, so I'm guessing it should work on all 720p/1080i capable tvs. I believe you just have to set the ps3 to output these resolutions.
Razzy1 2007-01-11, 06:12 AM Hi Guys,
has anyone seen the remote in Canada yet? I really want to get one but I haven't seem them around. I tried to order one from Amazon.com but they won't ship it to Nova Scotia. Amazon.ca doesn't have any.
Any suggestions?:)
Treebeard 2007-01-11, 02:53 PM My Panasonic Plasma accepts 720p and 1080i. I tried to force my PS3 to output at 720p by disabling 1080i output, but when watching a BD movie last night my TV reported a 480p signal. Anybody know what gives with the 720p output?
eimaj 2007-01-11, 05:57 PM My guess would be that the ps3 cannot downscale 1080p material to 720p for some reason. Hopefully a patch/update (if possible) is coming for these issues.
WestCDA 2007-01-11, 07:27 PM Anybody know what gives ...
It's a known issue with the PS/3, hopefully will be fixed with the next firmware update. I have a 720 x 1280 projector, and enable both 720p and 1080i on the PS/3. It outputs the movies at 1080i and the projector scales it to 720P - picture is beautiful. The games I checked were output at 720.
douggyd 2007-01-16, 11:43 AM From what I know, this is a hardware issue, not a software one. THe 360 has a scaler, PS3 does not...
lawman 2007-01-16, 01:22 PM I don't know about you guys but the PS3 recognized my Panny plasma as 1080p eventhough my Panny plasma only does up to 1080i and does 1080p processing internally. I'm guessing the Panny plasma downconverts it from 1080p from the PS3 to 1080i on screen Either way, the gfx looks awesome.
James 2007-01-16, 01:46 PM there is rumour going around the web that there is supposed to be a fix for the scaling issue coming in march. how they fix this without the proper internal hardware (if that is the case) is the big question.
PokerChip 2007-01-17, 11:02 AM A lot of stuff is happening in March, including games being released. This is because the PS3 is launching is Europe (March 23rd).
I wish they would have launched everywhere at the same time. Maybe we'd be playing Motorstorm and Rainbow Six Vegas right now! Thank goodness for Fight Night... I'm "hooked" on that game (pun intented).
darrylr 2007-01-18, 08:27 AM Right now Fight Night looks like the most intriguing game to me available for PS3. The one I am looking forward to the most is the new Gran Turismo but it will be a while I guess.
Lando 2007-01-18, 09:42 AM I can't wait for MotorStorm .. the demo is great
MarshallFaulk28 2007-01-20, 01:22 AM Hey, does anyone else not see all the theatrical trailers in the PlayStation Store? I saw from another forum there should have been trailers for '300' and Fred Claus, but I was not seeing them in the store. As a test, I decided to create a second account with a U.S. address, and presto. The missing trailers were available in the store when I use that account. Can anyone else confirm they cannot see them?
I thought there wouldn't be a difference for North America, but apparently not. I fear the Canadian store could be getting ripped off in the content department in the future. :(
Gord Lacey 2007-01-20, 04:11 PM I'm just guessing here, but it's likely that there's a different distributor in Canada (Alliance Atlantis?) for those movies, and that's why they haven't appeared in our store. This would be an issue that would only affect the movie trailers (assuming I'm correct); we wouldn't miss out on games that the US store gets.
Speaking of games, I can't wait for "Calling All Cars" to appear on the store, though I have to wait until March. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun to play. Hopefully they release a multiplayer version of "Cash Guns Chaos" as well - that is an insanely hard game!

eclipz 2007-01-23, 09:44 PM The 300 trailer is only available in the USA store. I created a USA account and downloaded it a few nights ago. As far as I could tell that's the only difference. All the other content seemed to be the same. You could also download some trailers at apple.com and convert them to MP4 using Quicktime Pro. Using Pass-through it takes less than a minute to have a MP4 that the PS3 can play.
I've downloaded a few 1080p trailers from apple's site and converted them with Quicktime. Worked well.
Back to the small difference between the USA and Canadian PS Store. You would think they should have identical content. And I guess for 99% of it they do. I also created a Hong Kong account to get the Ridge Racer demo. Not bad, but not at great as the GT:HD demo.
macemuscle 2007-01-24, 11:56 AM I must say that I'm distraught by the fact that my PS3 has been sitting there collecting dust for the last 2 weeks. I already finished Resistance and plan to play CoD3 next, but I'm really feeling the draught for content. Ditto on BluRay movies...
But I think I expected this given that I went throught the same thing on Xbox 360 last year
I just wish PSN would publish more content!!
Gord Lacey 2007-01-24, 12:11 PM March looks to be a huge month for the PS3. Just look at all the games:
March 5, 2007 Major League Baseball 2K7
March 6, 2007 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,
March 6, 2007 NBA Street Homecourt
March 6, 2007 Def Jam: Icon
March 12, 2007 Calling All Cars
March 13, 2007 Enchanted Arms
March 13, 2007 F.E.A.R.
March 20, 2007 Armored Core 4
March 20, 2007 Virtua Tennis 3
March 20, 2007 Godfather: The Don's Edition, The
March 20, 2007 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
March 20, 2007 MotorStorm
March 20, 2007 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent
I'll be picking up Calling All Cars and MotorStorm, and in May I'll pick up Burnout (car crashes in HD - oh yeah!!).
macemuscle, if you want a game you won't finish in a week (or two), pay for Cash Guns Chaos on the store. That thing is insanely hard on the default setting. My friend has made it to the season 1 boss and he said there are only 6 people with high scores listed....meaning only 6 people have beat the season 1 boss! It's insane.

PokerChip 2007-01-24, 05:28 PM Well, given the PS3 Europe launch is happening within days of most ofr these begin released, I suppose this lowers the possibility of even further delays. The res of the world launch did not do much to alleviate this game delays, however.
I am now wondering if any of the games that got pushed back were ever going to be released, and if this wasn't a ploy to move some systems and hype up the PS3. It worked on me...
I'll admit there are a few good titles in there, but don't forget these games aren't out yet. Rainvow Six Vegas has been pushed back three times and at this time, no date is firm IMHO.
This will tie us over until the release of something really big. I want Army of Two or Killzone 2 or Metal Gear Solid 4.
