: PS3 Availability - Issues, Tips [No Advertising or eBay Stuff]
PokerChip 2006-11-17, 04:28 PM Of course it's BS.
I don't want to generalize here, but duringthe few hours I spent waiting in line last night, you'd be amazed at how often I heard these 18-20 yr olds saying they were reselling there PS3 to get "weed money".
Then only way I would pay more than MSRP, and I'm not talking double here, is if I knew the difference was goign to charity. I would consider paying $100 premium for that.
unreal1080p 2006-11-17, 04:47 PM Today was 200 000 for North America and, from what I understand, 25 000 of them went to Canada.
Expect another 200 000 every 7-10 days till xmas for a North American total of 1 000 000. From a CNN article dated today:
"Sony promised the 400,000 machines in the United States for Friday's launch and about 1 million by year's end. Worldwide, it was expecting 2 million this year, half its original projections.
Jack Tretton, executive vice president at Sony Computer Entertainment America, said retailers will be receiving new PlayStations daily -- expedited by plane rather than ships."

These xtra units will go to a lot of random people because there will be no scheduled deliveries, line-ups, etc... Gamers will surely be able to get there hands on some units. For most, the sting of not getting one on launch day will wear off... unless of course some of you get carpel tunnel syndrome from refreshing the best buy and future shop pages ;) :D
redskull 2006-11-17, 04:49 PM Congrats Redskull. How did you get through? Do you have a super fast connection?
Just DSL... just got lucky for once ;)
PokerChip 2006-11-17, 04:56 PM Good 4 u man.
It's not like i havan't tried.
I wonder if any stores will be compiling waiting lists? I'm thinking it would be too complicated to manage, especially since the minute something shows up, any given person coming across actual stock will just phone up their 5 best friends, who will litterally have to stampede to the store before the next guy's buddies make it there.
threeputt 2006-11-17, 05:06 PM I call BS. Supposed to be 750,000 units by christmas. PS3's come by courier, not on the regular truck. Wont be on the shipping manifest. Regardless, after christmas there will be millions.
Pretty soon your PS3 will be worth $650bucks, just like it should be.
Enjoy looking in the mirror at the end of the day,

The local Zellers in the east end Ottawa mall received zero !! I stopped by after work and they had a sign up apologizing.
And Mark, relax man, its only a game and right now all about supply and demand.

That would be great news, hopefully some of them make it the great white north.
NeilN 2006-11-17, 10:45 PM From cbc.ca
Sony says more of its PlayStation 3 video game consoles are on the way after the initial shipment sold out on Friday, the first day it was available in North America.
"We are getting a second shipment next week, probably around the middle of next week," Matt Levitan , marketing and public relations manager for Sony Computer Entertainment of Canada, told CBC News Online on Friday. "We'll know by Monday or Tuesday when they will be available.
"We are flying in shipments from Japan and China, and will probably ship them directly to retail" instead of to Sony's warehouses, he said.
Levitan expects four or five shipments before the end of the calendar year, estimating each batch will be the equivalent of a quarter of the units available at launch.
He would not cite specific figures, but Sony had previously said 400,000 units should be available in North America on Friday. Canada traditionally receives about 10 per cent of product allocations for the continent, which would mean about 40,000 PS3s were destined for Canada.

james99 2006-11-18, 02:34 PM .... and passed.
Wal-Mart in Ancaster received a shipment today. Bro phoned from cell and asked if i wanted one.
Decided to pass.
darrylr 2006-11-18, 02:54 PM I would rather wait until they get further along with their manufacturing and work out some of the always present issues in early runs of a new product like that.
QuantumFluxx 2006-11-18, 03:41 PM I prefer to wait for something fun to play.

Yeah like Gran Turismo HD! :) That's the one that interests me the most and yes I know about having to pay for stuff on top of the box cost of the game.
james99 2006-11-18, 05:19 PM I despise these people selling these things for a profit. I don't want to be one of them.

newfbc 2006-11-18, 06:31 PM "For the PlayStation 3 launch on Friday November 17th, all Future Shop stores will open at 8am and each store will have a minimum of 10 PlayStation 3 units. The majority of units will be the 60GB model which is priced at $659.99.
The company has 121 stores across the country which suggests the retailer has just over 12,000 Playstations up for grabs."
From the story on the main page. Someone's math isn't too good. ;)
Ron.
dezzpayne 2006-11-18, 06:31 PM Well I don't really blame the people looking to make a quick buck I suppose. $1000 for 2 days of quasi work? I would never do it personally but I doubt many people 30+ were the ones sitting in line for 1-2 days. If they were a song comes to mind (Get a haircut and get a real job!). If I were a college kid that's easy moneh regardless of the end use of it. It's never good to be judgemental. As long as your not mentally or physically abusing another human being (or animal) I could care less what you. However those kids that beat up the PS3 in front of the line of hopefulls really do need to get taken out behind and beaten senseless lol. That was just cruel and falls under mental abuse :-)
Come on guys... nobody has made a post in here for while. Doesn't anybody have info on replenished stocks (2nd shipments) etc...?
jvincent 2006-11-19, 09:25 AM Sony has said that new shipments will be made every 7-10 days from launch date on.
Based on what happened with the 360 launch, expect it to be closer to 10 days than 7.
unclejemima 2006-11-19, 12:12 PM I'm going into my local superstore every day morning until i get one. Only problem, is most shipments come middle of the morning. I'm sure my boss would LOVE if i left late morning everday, mabey i'll have to go at lunch, but then i think it would be to late. I dunno...

As I've said before, based on what I saw when I lined up (I'm 36), the typical PS3 flipper wasn't a college kid looking for tuition money. He looked more like a 19 yr-old drop out looking at a serious partying opportunity. They weren't even hiding from the fact that they we're going to buy marijuana.
I'm sure that's not all of them, but it seemed more like the norm than the exception.
