riceman 2007-03-13, 06:32 PM i was at Walmart in Etobicoke on the weekend, no PS3's. went to the BestBuy next door, they didn't have any on the floor, but it might have been in the back, as i couldn't see any 360's either, and there's no way those are sold out.
Hazzard 2007-03-13, 06:39 PM I don't understand why we're still discussing PS3 availability anymore. Whether its in stock or not. Sony isn't having a problem producing them and if they aren't in your area it won't be long until they're back in stock. We shouldn't be shocked anymore that a PS3 is found on a store shelf nor should we be surprised if its out of stock. Last year when the 360 was the hot item you had problems securing one up until March when they started to appear with more regularity on store shelves. Many pundits suggested that the PS3 would be difficult to find until March of this year. Well, March is in full swing and as the PS3 wasn't too difficult to secure before now, it won't be from here on out.
Am I missing something that this remains some sort of hot topic?
HT gearhead 2007-03-13, 06:42 PM Seeing them almost all the time around Medicine Hat. Sometimes EB games, sometimes Walmart and even Zellers but never FS. Go figure. I have yet to see a single Wii anywhere.
james99 2007-03-13, 10:22 PM I don't understand why we're still discussing PS3 availability anymore.
Because Sony came out with a press release telling the world that there will be a shortage until May.
Gord Lacey 2007-03-13, 10:39 PM Why is a moderator fueling the fire on a debate that is pretty much over?
Gord
Hazzard 2007-03-13, 10:42 PM Ok, then why isn't that press release, or perhaps Sony's somewhat delusional attitude being discussed? Instead its the same reaction and the same posts (more or less) since it was first noticed that PS3s weren't flying off the shelves, or at least being restocked frequently.
"I saw some at _____ today."
"There were 20 all piled up at _____."
"My local _____ has been sold out for a while now."
Like I said in my original post, we shouldn't be shocked one way or the other. The system has been on sale since November. The fact that Sony wants to inject a little artificial hype doesn't affect actual availability which is being discussed here ad nauseum. I guess I just figured this topic is stale and we'd be better off discussing the future of PS3. It startled me that this was still being discussed, thats all. But no one is forcing me to read it so I'll just back out slowly I guess. ;)
Gord Lacey 2007-03-14, 01:32 AM Hazzard, this HAS been discussed. One person says "they're on every store shelf" followed by people like myself who don't see them in the stores in their area, followed by someone else saying "Costco has 20 in store at _____" followed by someone else saying their Costco doesn't have any. The fact is that some places have tons, and other places don't have any. I was just surprised that James was fueling the debate instead of taking your queue that there isn't much point to this anymore.
If someone can't find a PS3 then they can post something here and ask others in their area if they've seen anything.
Gord
Honestly, I am not aware of the current situation on PS3 availability, however, I "unstuck" the thread a long time ago thinking it would die when availability was no longer an issue.
To avoid any issues, I would ask that only discussion about availability of PS3's be posted here.
Going forward, Any off-topic posts or discussions about whether this thread should be closed etc will be deleted.

I was just stating Sony's official position. I'm not hunting for one so I'm not sure what the supply situation is like. That being said, I have never seen one for sale within a BB or FS in my area.
I assume folks are still have problems finding them since this thread is still alive.
For those still having trouble finding them, futureshop has had some online since early this morning. Still about 30 left as I write this.
canadianauditor 2007-03-17, 10:37 PM Hello all,
Those still looking for the PS3 just visit the Costco in Brampton, Ontario (Steeles and Hwy 410).......I was there this afternoon and I was amazed to see on the floor a whole skid full (about 3-4 rows high).........I would estimate over 40 PS3s....the only drawback is that they are all 60GB units, come with one game (not always the same game in each package) and an extra controller and thus retail for $799.99.........so if you are still looking and willing to pay then there is your store........
Jeff
While I'll agree that they're not as difficult to find as they used to be, I can't just walk into my neighbourhood blockbuster/EB Games/best buy/future shop and pick one up off the shelf. Until that happens, then to me they are in short supply. Simple as that.
Edit: Blah - stopped reading the thread a page to early :) My opinion still stands though
Cyberaga 2007-03-24, 01:25 PM In Edmonton the bestbuy on 137 ave has at least 4 60 gig units. I'm not sure if they are selling them or not since it every time i go in to the store they have 4 out on display. And for some reason they increased the pricing from 649.99 to 699.99, but you all know that already.
Altaman 2007-03-25, 09:24 AM For the first time since the PS3 came out I actually saw some that could be bought. BestBuy Sunridge had 4 in case by the casheirs that could be bought...nice but hard to justify $700 on a game machine, just too much $$.

riceman 2007-03-25, 01:09 PM hopefully when the 360 pricedrops later this year, the PS3 will follow
Hellspawnt 2007-03-26, 12:56 PM I saw about 20 units with the 1 game + extra controller bundle at Costo in Montreal / St-laurent, Quebec
Altaman 2007-03-26, 06:45 PM As of today, Bestbuy Sunridge still has two PS3's available...definately not selling very quick. They had four on Saturday and two today, definately seems as if sales are slowing to a crawl.

PrimeBane 2007-04-03, 10:13 PM Bestbuy Northland has a big old cage full of them... and the NW Costco has a pile of bundles as well.
PokerChip 2007-04-04, 01:40 PM The Costco bundles suck. I already have a PS3, but if I didn't I would never go for that bundle.
Sony has sold more than 3 million units when taking the European and Australian launch into account.
Given the time of year, the fact that production has been ramped up, that distribution channels have caught up and that only a limited number of "good games" are available, it's not unexpected to see stock on shelves.
For the first time for me in Edmonton, a local London Drugs store had 2 units in stock last week. I haven't seen a single box anywhere else.
Similar observation here - while there is definitely more stock available (especially online) I was just in Walmart and they had no units. I'd like to think I would have bought one if they had the stock :)
