: Shaw: analogue SD channels also in digital late November, er December, er 2007?
magnet 2006-11-30, 03:12 PM is calgary one of the locations?
i just got a projector so I want to get the mini digital receiver ASAP!!! I can't stand analog, my house sucks for analog cable.
With a projector... don't bother with the $98 box. You won't be happy. Shaw's COMPRESSED digital signal will look like poop. You need the HD box.

beanagee1 2006-11-30, 06:26 PM FYI:
I spoke to a repair guy in my neighbourhood. Shaw a putting in Standby power in the Vancouver and Burnaby area for the phone service. They have just started in Burnaby it will take 6 months to do the entire city. It took them a year to do Vancouver. There are only two guys doing this job.
ta-kid 2006-11-30, 07:57 PM Just checked here in the vancouver area.Global, channel 11 is still analogue.Proably will take a few days to get all boxes switched to digital only if they have started this process.
brgnewman 2006-12-01, 05:26 PM Is anyone else getting overly excited when they see the "Message Indicator" light on their DCT just to find out it's a crap message?
I've gotten two in the last couple days; yesterday one about the Fight Network and Raptors TV and I keep wishing it was something about moving all to digital broadcasts :p
pynner 2006-12-01, 05:38 PM LMAO.. I thought I was the only one.. yeah, it's been breakin my heart too..
Alan Bealby 2006-12-01, 05:50 PM I disagree with the idea that messages from Shaw announcing new channels and their status are "crap messages". I have been complaining for a long time that Shaw should be making announcements before, if not at the time of new channel additions. My message announcement was late as I had stumbled across the new channels, Raptors TV and The Fight Network a couple of weeks ago. The one piece of new information that was in the message was that these two channels were free until December 15'th.
If we can only get Shaw to be giving these messages in a timely fashion I would be happier.
thefly 2006-12-02, 12:20 AM Not sure if I am seeing things, but about 9:15 pm on A-Chanel in Vancouver the picture pixelated for a moment and then the picture became much cleaner - did anyone else notice this...did shaw just go digital? I am not sure how to check

Nothing in Calgary, AB yet. I just went and checked my DCT and the lower channels are still all analog
meshmellow 2006-12-02, 02:01 AM did shaw just go digital? I am not sure how to check
You can check in two ways:
If you have all digital, you will not be getting channel 2. The listings on channel 2 are not needed by those with the Guide.
If you tune a channel, or press "Info" while viewing a channel, you will see the Dolby digital symbol toward the right of the info box, if the channel is digital.
Shaw IS all digital in the Vancouver area. The new boxes (DCT700 and DCT 3080) see the digital signals, but the older ones will see analog. The earlier digital boxes can be easily updated, though, if you get the right techie.

codywatkins 2006-12-02, 02:34 AM They're seriously not re-mapping everyone with older DCT's by default?

I think it might be a risk doing everyone at once. Better to get some feedback first.

did you get a guy to update your box to ge the digital channels. I've been hitting walls with tech can anyone else confirm this.
Mac Write 2006-12-02, 06:07 AM My land lady will be furious as she just bought a new TV (HD) not a TV watcher, but having to spend $450 on a new box then to be told it won't be supporting all Digital will be enough for her to return it all and cancel Shaw.
Oh did I mention she bought the box from Shaw, yet Shaw went ahead and charged her for the box as well? WTF? She was ready to cancel Shaw on the spot for that. Why would they charge her for a box she bought somewhere else? Luckly she was finally able to convince them to reverse the charges.
brgnewman 2006-12-02, 11:50 AM I have my parents already complaining that we paid $299 for the DCT2500 in August '06 and now they came out with a $98 DCT that's about the same ;)
But man, does Shaw ever email anyone back? I've sent them two emails over the last 2 months and I've never heard a peep from anyone at Shaw; no phone calls or emails from them. And yes, I disabled all my anti-spam features and still nothing.

beanagee1 2006-12-02, 12:04 PM Still analog here in Burnaby.
Has anyone checked the 800 series channels to see if the digital channels have been "remapped" there on the "non-digital only" STBs?
thecableguy84 2006-12-02, 01:23 PM Has anyone checked the 800 series channels to see if the digital channels have been "remapped" there on the "non-digital only" STBs?
no 800 channels here in Calgary on the all digital only box(DCT700) or the 6416PVR
as i stated before the digital boxes will/should map the channels to the old analog channels.
Im pretty sure the change has happened as i have been able to see digital break up on channel 2-52, done on purpose of course, and my all digital box gets channel 2-52.
Other then maybe a quality difference you shouldn't really be able to tell the difference, even checking the signal on a RF meter you will still see the analog channels for those without digital box's
The only reason I asked about the 800 series channels is because that's how Rogers did their "experimentation" a few years back when they went all channels digital. After the experiment was over, they "reversed" the channels. We're still getting the analogues in some Rogers areas in the 800s, while other areas do not show the analogues any more - an indication of what can be done by firmware, or perhaps by head end.
thecableguy84 2006-12-02, 01:34 PM I still get noisy analogue channels in Winnipeg :(
Winnipeg was not scheduled to get this for a while after the launch in Alberta and BC
i also just checked my 6416 in the menu and its showing me all normal analog channels as digital at 256QAM.... just though i would let you know that too
thecableguy84 2006-12-02, 02:35 PM apparently the change has not been made everywhere it was supposed to be, not even all of Calgary has had the change yet, Shaw is simle casting but not all digital boxes have been updated with the new settings.
