: Shaw: analogue SD channels also in digital late November, er December, er 2007?
brgnewman 2006-11-29, 12:38 AM I happened to meet a guy tonight who works at Shaw, not a CSR. He stated the current boxes will continue to recieve the channels over the analog tuner. Only the new digital only boxes will have the all digital channels. He was very clear on the fact their would be no re-mapping of analog to digital on the existing boxes.
On a plus side he did say more HD channels coming in the next few months, not sure if this was just referring to National G and Showcase or others.
I was under the impression that I would be able to recieve an all digital feed on my Shaw DCT2500 that I just bought in August for $299.
So let me get this straight; a $299 box can't recieve all the channels in Digital, yet a $98 box will be able to get everything in Digital? Uhhhhh, are you kidding me? What about the people with with $750 HD PVR boxes? Are they stuck with some Analog channels?
Personally, I think Shaw should rethink this or there's gonna be many people complaining.

ta-kid 2006-11-29, 12:48 AM I was told by the service technician originally that the existing digital boxes will get an update on the internal software to adjust for the all digital line-up from analogue.Proably a overnite download when your sleeping likely.
It sounds like existing digital STBs WILL be able to get the digital channels once they have tested the digital channels on the "few" all digital STBs that are out there.
It's interesting that they can do this via firmware.
JesseJ 2006-11-29, 01:44 AM Now I'm confused. Only the DCT700's will get the all digital channels?
No one else will be getting the digital channels initially? Or ever?
PokerChip 2006-11-29, 11:41 AM Can anyone confirm this?
I think I'm going to faint this morning. Are you guys actually saying that as the proud papa of 3 digital terminals for which I paid over $1,600, I'm not important enough of a customer to get all digital channels?
!@#$%?&*()
All I know is the channels in Edmonton are STILL analog. And now, in light of this new information, and knowing how few and far between formware updates are on the DCTs... who knows how long will have to wait for this "testing phase" to be over?
Months, I'm guessing. Sigh.
bellerophon 2006-11-29, 02:59 PM Just talked to a Shaw tech. rep. he said they will be adding the digital versions of the analog chanels in the 140s soon. He suggested that they won't come all at once but they are working on it now. I checked my box nothing yet. Hopefully he didn't just say that to get me off the phone.

Hmmm, I understood from the previous posts that the digital versions would be mapped to the same location. Ie., if I want to watch cannel 22 I just go to 22 and I'll get the digital version instead of analog.

Unbelievable what they'll say! The 140's are pretty much filled and 3 of the channels were only recently placed there.

westmanguy 2006-11-29, 06:00 PM Yeah it would make way more sense to remap digital over analog counterparts.
It will get way more confusing if the Re-map digital higher up.
If they are going to have both versions you keep digital in the same place and remap analog else where.
I thought I'd check, but still analogue.....maybe the change over to all digital is delayed due to the snow?.
I hope it's all digital soon. As long as they don't over compress, the picture should be decent. Nice thing will be the extra recording room due to all digital.
spitoon 2006-11-29, 11:42 PM I don't think it will make much of a difference for me...I hardly watch anything that's not on HD anymore, other than the occasional hockey game on regional Snet or TSN. I will say that the PQ on those channels for hockey is pretty bad, but I don't think going digital will help because the PPV hockey is also bad and it is a digital feed.
farfromover 2006-11-30, 09:45 AM Yeah, re-mapping higher up does NOT make any sense. Can anyone confirm if the all-digital boxes are getting the analog signals in digital on the regular channels??

And, I'd like to know if anyone actually has a DCT700 or DCT3080. The website just says "Order Now". Seems to me they wouldn't be issuing the boxes if the analog channels didn't have digital equivalents yet.
I phoned Shaw over a week ago and left the message for immediate call back. Hasn't happened yet!:D

You might not, depending on your location...they are only offering the 700 in select locations.
faston 2006-11-30, 12:41 PM I got an email this morning stating that Shaw is doing maintenance in my area from 2am to 4am and to expect a service outage during that period. Related to this? Who knows?
Poopie D 2006-11-30, 01:10 PM Shaw was in my area with a few trucks yesterday afternoon...my cable was off and on all afternoon. Have no idea what they were up to.

is calgary one of the locations?
i just got a projector so I want to get the mini digital receiver ASAP!!! I can't stand analog, my house sucks for analog cable.
i might as well just spend another $200 and get the HD receiver... (only if there was more NHL in HD!)

As far as I know it is...I'm able to see the DCT700 on the website.
