Ah, 57. There is no literal "live" on the moto pvrs as it is buffering to at least 45 minutes. you are always reading what is in the buffer on the HD. This takes time. With a pip fed by straight cable, you can compare real live with the PVR's live.

Thanks for the feedback. The SA8300HD is also always buffering the last channel you change to for up to 1 hour, however, there is a difference between live and "Memorex". ;)

One can confirm this by pausing and then FF to the "end" of the buffer on a channel with a time display. As it switches to "live" or if you press the "live" button, there is a time difference of a few seconds. The Motorola PVR may function as you say, however, this time difference on the PVR is probably in addition to the digital difference.

In Surrey, BC
All the low channels are still analog, Can anyone else confirm that also?

Its still analogue in vancouver. I talked to a CSA at Shaw and he said that I should notice no difference in quality from the digital because its still an analogue signal but it is somehow enabled for the digital only boxes. I was confused by this responce it didn't seem to make sence but I think he meant that they are sending a digital signal to digital only boxes but boxes with an analogue tuner still get the analogue signal. Furthermore he said that I shouldn't be able to notice a difference between the signals of analogue and digital because the broadcasters hadn't updated their system or something like that. However when I was with expressvu CTV vancouver was fully digital sportsnet pacific was fully digital already. surely there should be an improvement with those channels. He just repeated the same things over and over. I'm not sure he was very knowledgeable. Under the inbound section in the settings menu it says signal analogue.

It certainly sounds like that CSR didn't really know what he was talking about, which wouldn't really be unusual.

From what has been discussed here, the channels will be re-mapped so the boxes will pick up the digital signals...unless that applies to 'digital only' boxes???

As far as not noticing a difference, I can believe that. I don't see any difference between digital channels and analog channels as it is (aside from the HD channels obviously). Besides, they'll likely have to compress even further to get it all in at this point. Ideally, some time down the road, they get rid of the analog and then we will see an increase in the PQ of the digital channels.

I think it will come down to personal choice on which is better. Which is why I think most people are hoping that the analogue and digital channels are maped to different areas on the guide. There are some digital channels that are worse than others the american timeshifts are fuzzier than the digital sportsnets. I'm not sure its compresion though as I don't see that many artifacts on my TV. I think the signal is coming to Shaw in an analogue format then translated to digital causing fuzzyness. Those chanels were fuzzy on expressvu too when I had them. The canadian channels were clear though and thats what I am hoping will happen with Shaw going all digital. But in the end I want to see both and then decide which I watch.

Any new news on where we are on the "all digital" progression? Is it going to be the 28th as previously discussed, clearly it didn't happen on the 21st.

So far no all digital here in Calgary, still analog. Its starting to get annoying. If it doesn't go all digital by tomorrow I think I'm going to call shaw and see if they have any sort of info on when yet. They had their all digital boxes on their site for 2-3 weeks now so its gotta be going all digital soon I'd think.

As far as I know simulcasting is only coming to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver apparently today. Other places as far as I know such as winnipeg, medicine hat, etc wont be getting simulcasting until later months.

If you set your locale on the shaw website with an Edmonton, calgary, or vancouver postal code it has the all digital DCT700 and PVR 3080 on there but any other locations like medicine hat the website only has the DCT2500,6200, and 6416.

If Medicine Hat and other locations were going to get simulcasting I would think they would release the 2 new all digital boxes for those locations also.

On the box- hit power, then immediately OK/select, you will have an option to scroll down to channel status.

Here are all the details, near the bottom of the link.http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_.../Configuration

The faster way for me in Calgary to check if we have got SD is to look at Channel 5.
Due to my proximity to CKAL (City TV Calgary's) antenna and a little bit of signal leakage, I always get a bit of Ghosting on this channel.
After "the digital revolution" it should be a crystal clear (compressed) signal.

You have that too?! Jeeze, i have tried everything to fix that and nothing works. New splitter, new cables, new tv, etc and it still ghosts Channel 8.

I actually seldom watched stuff on ABC before I got Digital Cable (This summer) because of that ghosting issue. But now we have digital so i just use my Detriot Timeshift :P

BTW, any word when in Calgary we'll get all Digital? I emailed shaw but they never respond back

I happened to meet a guy tonight who works at Shaw, not a CSR. He stated the current boxes will continue to recieve the channels over the analog tuner. Only the new digital only boxes will have the all digital channels. He was very clear on the fact their would be no re-mapping of analog to digital on the existing boxes.

On a plus side he did say more HD channels coming in the next few months, not sure if this was just referring to National G and Showcase or others.

Would the 6412 get the Digital cannels or are they gonna make us buy an all digital PVR now too?

He was very clear on the fact their would be no re-mapping of analog to digital on the existing boxes.I would bet that will be a temporary situation. They probably don't want to make too many changes (create too many problems for themselves) at once. That's the conservative way to implement any new system. Though with Shaw, it could take a long time before they take the next step.

How does that work? What happens after they begin moving analog channels to digital tiers?

It is an all digital tuner.
