Actually, if it ONLY improved the quality of SNET for hockey, I'd be happy.

spitoon,

Honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference in the PQ. I'm watching on a 60" TV, so SD content looks a bit "blah" to start with. I wanted to be switched over so the analog recordings take up less space on my PVR, since they'll now be digital. My girlfriend is obsessed with all those makeover shows (What Not to Wear, Color Confidential....the list goes on) and my PVR fills up VERY fast!

I can imagine. My wife loves those shows as well, but she is an absolute 'technophobe' and won't mess with the PVR and TV as it is. As a result, we record very little SD programming, so I wasn't really in any hurry to switch over.

Silly me - I got a Harmony 880, and showed my girlfriend how to record stuff one day. I'll be sitting here and my red light goes on :D

I think I'll be getting the new PVR for the bedroom, that way she won't be watching "What not to wear" while I'm itching to play PS3.

Simple solution that is why I have my Regza LCD TV for my HD box and XB360 and a Sony 32" CRT TV in my bedroom so I can watch 24 and My wife can watch those 2 british cleaning ladies and America's next top model in the bedroom lucky for me she does use the PVR I also have a DVD recorder just in case..BTW you can pick up 20-27" regular TV's for the price range of 129-300$ he he;)

I got switched over. Actually when I called they told me the flag was already on my account (not sure how it got there).

I am noticing a lot more TBA listings inthe guide now, is this related to the switch to digital? It's a bit of a problem because it's now mising series recordings because it can't find them. Is anyone else having this problem?

This is after it's been of overnight, it should have recieved all the listings by now.

You might want to try re-booting the box...unplug for 30 seconds then re-plug it in.

Simple question. If I switch over to ALL-digital does that mean I need a DCT for ALL my TV's? I have one that does not have a DCT that my kid uses and I do not feel like spending $100 so my kid can watch Treehouse.

Simple answer is "no". Your other TVs can remain on analog.

I have read in this thread (and observed myself) that the PVR recordings now take up less space. Why is that? could someone point me to a link or provide an explanation as to why they take less space. Thanks.

From: HERE (http://telecom.hellodirect.com/docs/Tutorials/AnalogVsDigital.1.051501.asp)
The nature of digital technology allows it to cram lots of 1s and 0s together into the same space an analog signal uses. Like your button-rich phone at work or your 200-plus digital cable service, that means more features can be crammed into the digital signal.
Digital transmission is far more efficient than analog, so the conversion to an "all digital' lineup allows for increased recording capacity on the same drive.

Thanks for the answers meshmellow, now I can switch.

Does the all digital lineup mean that the same channels & channel numbers will be offered in each city? (IE more like Satellite, where they have a national channel map and everyone gets CTV Vancouver on channel 321 for example, regardless of whether you live in Vancouver or not.)

Or will things stay the same with channel numbers and whatnot?

Okay, I think I have figured out APTN (Channel 90 in Calgary) and the fact why it's a different feed for all of us on the all-digital package.

My parents were watching some "Canadian Geography" thing on that channel and they said "Oh, *so and so* degrees in Regina right now" and I walked over and said "Did they show Alberta's temps or only show Saskatchewan's?"and they said that only saskatchewan's was shown.

So it appears that the All Digital feed is coming out of Saskatchewan and that's why it's a different feed. That's my conclusion :p

APTN on digital is the east feed and APTN Analog is the west feed. It's likely the exact same channel just timeshifted. I think the reason they aren't showing the west feed in digital yet is because they are receiving APTN via Shaw Broadcast, which only offers the east feed.

Oh, it appears Shaw is now subbing their commericals in on all the channels now; no more random Starchoice ads.

So far I've watched TLC and TBS and have seen all Shaw commericals and no Starchoice.

According to a Shaw TSR I spoke with today, Shaw plans to convert everyone to 'all digital' on March 1st. I'm not sure if this is just the Vancouver area, or all areas.

It is now March 1st, and I still get the analogue signal. Does anyone know when all-digital will be available?

I just got off the phone with one of the shaw csr's asking to change over to a digital map. He wouldn't even attempt to try changing me over and told me to wait until the end of March. Which is apparently the time they will fully release the digital map to all customers? I don't know if i'm getting the run around here :0 .
