Hmmm...my 6412 certainly seems damaged........NOT. I think the CSR was handing you a line. I'd call back and point out his idiocy.
I didn't believe the "damage" part either. When I told him that other people had done it successfully, he said that he didn't know where I was getting that information, but that it shouldn't be true. This was in Vancouver.

Weird that you guys in Vancouver are getting the run around still.. I had mine switched to all digital a week or so ago with no arguments.. infact, the guy on the phone seemed to be happy to help me out..

I have a 2500 and a 6200.. both work fine.. (though they both needed a reboot to get going)...

strange that some in Vancouver are having a hard time. For me it was easy.
2 phone calls. First from work to add the Digital FCS code. Then when i got home to have them reboot the box.
(i have on original phase 1 6412)
At first they gave me the line that all digital is for new boxes only but quickly and with no further reluctance set up the code after i mentioned others getting it.

The call for the reset was even easier. told the CSR i had the code added earlier and needed a restart..no problem.. away she went and boom. all digital

I spent quite a bit of time on the phone this weekend. To make a very long story short, I successfully had my 2 6412s switched over to digital (thanks to a supervisor in Nanaimo!, whowas very patient and courteous).

Quality is better, but on certain channels, marginally only. Sportsnet (ch. 23) which was the absolute worse in analog, now looks quite a bit better. Channel 4 (CBC), along with ch. 6 CBS and Ch. 11 NBC still look quite poor.

Let's put it this way: I was expecting a much more dramatic improvement and this is not going to make we watch more SD programming. It's unfortunate it has to be this way, but I'm calling it the way I see it.

On the plus side, recording SD children shows will take up less space on my PVRs, which is a welcome improvement. I mention children shows because the likelihood of archiving and replaying shows more than once is higher than the shows my wife and I watch. Also, most of our recordings are in HD, anyway.

Here is the letter I just got from Shaw
Thank you for contacting Shaw Eservice. We apologize for the delay in response as a result of higher than normal email volumes and thank you for your patience.

We understand you would like to have the all digital line-up available for your High Definition Terminal. Barring any unknown technical issues, we anticipate customers that have purchased the new Digital Terminal and also have Terminals that can accept an all digital signal will be migrated to the all Digital line-up by the end ofFebruary, 2007.

As this is a new Terminal (DCT700 and DCT 3080), we are currently testing the functionality of the all digital line up on the other Digital Terminals we support. As noted in your email, we are testing the service on staff accounts first. We would like to ensure any possible technical issues are resolved prior to launching the service to our customers. We appreciate your patience in this matter.

tried getting shaw to move my dct6200 to all digital. Guy on the phone was nice enough, seemed to know what I was talking about, politely asked me to wait for a minute while he confirmed whether he could or not ... and came back saying that he was not allowed to do this for customers yet ... that it was being tested and would automatically be done for all digital boxes "next month". This was in Vancouver area. Bummer.

That's the same reply I got in Vancouver.

Same thing for me. 'Might damage the box'. OK, I'll take that chance. Put on hold. No, we cannot do that on those boxes.

That was the reply I received last week. Tried again on Saturday and they set it up. No consistency. I'm in Vancouver.

Got the run around, was told it wasn't available for me yet.

Have a tech coming out thursday, will see then.

strike 1 today... csr said there is no reason to go all digital because my 6412 has an analog tuner built in... told her that going all digital would improve the PQ of my analog channels... she said no, because "shaw prides itself on having digitial quality on all of its analog channels"... sigh

will be trying daily, i'm in edmonton btw

Doesn't that contradict Shaw's own web site regarding digital TV?

From the web site:
Digital Picture:
Enhanced sharpness. A broader spectrum of colour. More depth and reliability. Go digital and unleash the visual power within your television.

How hard would it be to have an 'inter-office' e-mail sent out to all the CSR's, so they all have the same information????

Changing to all digital will damage your 6412? Come on, they can't honestly think we are that stupid, can they?

Sheesh,
It'll just be a matter of time before someone hears from a csr that they can't switch you to all digital becasue you need the analogue channels for HD reception on their 64xx box.

I've read this thread, but I'm confused on one thing.

I have a 6412 III connected to my HD TV and 2 regular TVs not connected to any box (stricktly analogue) plugged into the cable jack on the wall.

If I request that the "all digital FCS code" be applied to my account, and is successful (and getting a reset on my 6412), I should expect that all of my old analogue channels are now digital thru the 6412, and thus resulting (in theory) in better PQ on my HDTV.

But, what happens to the signal sent to my other TVs? Will they no longer work because the digital FCS code is applied to my entire account?

No, you're other TV's will still get the analog signal. That's the whole purpose of simulcasting both the digital and analog signals at the same time. If you have the capability to get the digital feed you'll get that otherwise you'll get the analog. Obviously you didn't read this whole thread because it was already talked about.

I feel sorry for the CSR's. Talking to a guy now, has now clue about what I am referring to. Shaw really needs to work on their internal communication (as well as external)

He is going to check with someone on how to do this, I was hoping I could just walk him through adding the All Digital FCS code before he talks to someone who tells him not to.

Well he said no, senior tech said no, doesnt' work. But then he told me the D-FCS code was already on the account, I asked him to reset and I am now in the digital world.

I explained how to check on the box for all digital, should have got his name and people could just tell everyone to ask "mike/joe/bob" etc how to do the switch.
