: something to put the TV on
charlie3133 2006-10-30, 06:23 PM So does anyone have any good links for places that will sell decent quality decently priced stands that you can put your newly bought TV on.
I don't mean wall brackets, but stands.
Something that has lots of shelves for all those dvd players, receivers, cable boxes, centre speakers etc etc etc.
Thanks in advance
Charlie
magnet 2006-10-30, 06:29 PM Ikea has stands for larger TVs.
Whittier Wood products - found at RONA / TOTEM (Alberta), unpaintedfurniture.ca ( a Calgary store).

I contacted those guys a week or so ago, and while they are Canadian (BC), most of the web sites they operate are specifically for the US with US prices, including the one Al58 referenced (which is the one that always comes up in google). The guy I talked to said that some of their suppliers won't ship to Canada. I don't think they inventory anything - just drop ship direct from the supplier.
Then he pointed me to their Canadian site - Canadian prices and Canada-friendly suppliers:

This is the widest range on-line for a Canadian-specific site that I've found so far, and it's fun to look!

hawkeye19 2006-10-30, 07:13 PM The difference between the US and Cdn site is unbelievable when it comes to price!
I just looked at a Plateau stand. On the US site it's less than $300. On the Cdn site it's $537!!

Thanks John, I thought this place had a good price on a 60" Bush stand....but it isnt even on the can. site. I'd have to go to the Brick for it, but I guess I'll stay away from this place.

supervij 2006-10-31, 12:07 AM Funny seeing this thread today. Just yesterday I was pondering the question myself.
I was considering the following TV stand: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=17071&catalogId=10103&storeId=3&productId=11149&langId=-15&categoryId=15962&chosenPartNumber=30024863 for a possible Sony 50A2000 purchase.
It's a little short (by maybe 10 cm) for my tastes, but the TV would fit it. But for only $129, I'm seriously thinking about it. It can handle 70 kg, which is twice the mass of the 50A2000. But I've heard people say that Ikea stuff can be pretty fragile. What do you guys think?
cheers,
supervij
PS: By the way, thanks to all for providing links to other stores. I was at a loss as to where to look!
Bobby Clobber 2006-10-31, 12:19 AM I got this.
http://tinyurl.com/yblhka
for $149. Seems sturdy enough, but I'm probably going to rig up a fan inside to keep the STB from overheating when the doors are closed.
mtlnorm 2006-10-31, 09:02 AM I have this one from Ikea for my 50 inch Sony. Nothing fragile about it. Solid piece of furniture. Pricey though.

Reg99 2006-10-31, 12:53 PM ElectronicsForLess has a variety of the usual manufacturers of stands. I kind of like the TechCraft TRK50. (Use Search w/TRK50) It seems to be a reasonable price, although, I have yet to 'pull the trigger'.

DESERTRAT 2006-11-04, 01:25 PM Check out this TV bench I got from Ikea, its in the Bonde series and the drawer is very handy and keeps a lot of DVDs etc, out of sight and nicely organised.
This is a 42"plasma and as you can see it will take a bigger tv if needs be.
PLus theres plenty of room at the back to keep cables organised.
Ive got a cable box, a Panasonic Hom,e theatre system and the vcr there so it all fits neatly, plus you can slide the front down to make it look neater if you want.
Desertrat.

Looking good, desertrat. Unfortunately I need space for at least one more component and a centre channel speaker. Ikea has a couple of items that are close to the mark, but nothing I've seen that comes in dark wood or black, handles the centre speaker (i.e, no doors in the middle), and can handle 4 or 5 components.
But your set up definitely looks good and looks like it's working well for you!

The one in post 10 meets those requirements and comes in dark wood?

Yep, it's so darn close, but... The right and left side sections behind the doors on that unit are only about 14" wide. Okay for things like xbox etc, but won't hold a full 17"+ component. Sooo close.
bowmah 2006-11-17, 03:43 PM I saw that the Brick had this unit:
http://www.thebrick.com/Application/...tCode=92TVPK3A
I was hoping that it will be the right height for the Panasonic TH50PX60 (50 inch plasma screen). Does anyone know what other stores & tv stands I should be looking at as well (in thie price range)? Location is Vancouver, BC.
Then 57 pointed me to this thread. Looks like the IKEA unit is pretty good as well (although it does not have a door in the middle section. Does anyone have this unit? Since the see through doors don't look like glass, has anyone had issues with remotes not working well on this unit?

Thanks for the heads up but I am looking for a unit with doors to keep dust out and kids from climbing up the "ladder" steps!
I was looking at this unit:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=17071&catalogId=10103&storeId=3&productId=76529&langId=-15&categoryId=15962&chosenPartNumber=00087531
but a user pointed out that the side units do not fit standard components! I am now considering this one from the Brick but am worried that the build is not as good. IKEA stuff just fits together well.

mfabien 2006-11-18, 06:13 AM Would suggest a stand without doors so that your components will be able to receive IR signals from remotes and get proper air circulation.
