ROGERS UPDATE.
Those of us who waited to watch the first 2 episodes of BOB in HD may be out of luck.
BOB not indicated on Rogers guide for tonight! Bummer, I guess I picked the wrong night to watch it!
*C's website has it listed for HD tonight.

Careful, just because Rogers didn't list it, doesn't mean it's not going to show.
The first showing (Monday night) was not listed either. It started 3 minutes late, from the beginning, not 3 minutes into the show.
I would suspect that it will show in HD. Just don't expect DD 5.1 though.

Why can't they show these HD presentations in dd5.1
They have the capability, it is in the source, it is part of the HDTV standards.
I always hated rogers, this is why.
You call them to ask and they have no idea what the hell is going on.
According to the Feature Magazine the only HD movie on this month in 5.1 is American Psycho. I do agree that that should all be and I to would prefer to rent to DVD and have 5.1 with only a 480p image. However since this is stated by TMN I don't think it is Rogers fault, unless they do have control over it  (if ExpressVu it carrying it in 5.1 what is with that!)
Is the Feature Magazine a Rogers product or do ExpressVu and *C get it as well?

Well, all I can say is that when BOB played on TMN-HD last year, on Bell ExpressVu, it most definately was in 5.1 for every episode. I also don't remember a low volume problem, although, like I've noticed all DD soundtracks are, it was slightly lower than regular channels.
I no longer have the TMN-HD channelas I have no use for TMN.
But enjoy it anyway, I certainly did last summer.

I spoke to Rogers today regarding the 5.1 issue.
According to Rogers, nobody showed Band of Brothers including ExpressVu in Dolby Digital.
I was quite surprised because on my system the 5.1 lit up and the sound was seemed much better than Rogers.
IN hindsight, the difference in volume may have played into my misperception. Rogers also suggested that ExpressVu reencoded BOB into a "virtual" 5.1
I contacted ExpressVu and have put the question to them.

In my opinion, when BEV showed it last time, it most definately was in 5.1. It sounded very much like Saving Private Ryan, with sound effects coming from all around me.
I think Rogers is just trying to find a reason not to show it in 5.1.

Sounded pretty 5.1 to my ears as well, much to the consternation of my upstairs neighbors, who must have been wondering what kind of havoc was going on beneath their feet
Sounded very good to me also hence my disbelief when I was talking to Rogers. They suggested that BEV re-encoded it somehow.
The folks at Rogers swear that SC, Rogers and ExpressVu all get the same tapes from TMN. Previously TMN had told me the same thing. According to several people SC was not in Dolby Digital either.
I have sent an email to TMN and I have a phone call into ExpressVu to try and decipher the truth.
It's a mystery
