Question for alll, might get some good idea for playlists etc...

So how do YOU organize your music collection?!?

I organize all my music by genre, then have playlists (sometimes more than one genre together) that are rated 2 stars or better for each genre. songs that are 1star mean I don't want it on my ipod, and 0 stars means unrated...

I also have addn'l playlists:

Top Rated: songs rated 5
Mellow: for bedtime (could be multiple genres)
Unrated: to ensure I rate all my songs
Latest: songs new to ITunes in the last month

I organize by artist. I find it easier to find the music I want this way. I make different playlists depending on mood. I also have one playlist for my vehicle. When people come over and want to browse my music collection I let them use the cover art browser.

I don't bother, really. I just hit shuffle and let the iPod have at it.

I am trying to create a playlist for my ipod which I can do but I am finding that once I drag and drop the song over to the new playlist it still stays on my main large library playlist (which I don't want to save space on my ipod.) Is there anyway once I move the song to a playlist, I can remove the song from the main large playlist (when you click on your ipod on itunes and all the songs come up?) Thanks everyone!

The large main play list is actually your library - if you remove it from the library you will be deleting the song. So don't worry about the large library. Its not actually a play list either.
