leafs/buffalo game.. anyone getting major jaggies?

And test pattern has blipped ina couple times?

test pattern flashing throughout leafs game, also terrible picture quality on cogeco. I just got gogeco high def a couple of weeks ago with watching sports (especially the leafs) in high def being the reason I got it. I'm very disappointed to say out of all the networks hi def coverage of college and pro sports hockey on CBC looks the worst.

PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can i say it again. HNIC this week was NOT NOT NOT HD.

They didn't have ANY HD equipment in Buffalo whatsoever for the leafs game. It was all in Calgary for the CFL game today.

Don't say 'CBC has the worst pro sports HD....CBC is crap...."

it was freakin SD widescreen. of course it's gonna look the worst out of all the other networks Hidef coverage. Maybe because the other networks were showing real HD at the time when you watched it. When CBC shows true HD hockey (which is usually once every week) it looks great. Maybe a slight less bit than CBS or ESPN at their best, but most wouldn't tell the difference it's so slight. Canada is like 5 years behind in digital broadcasting vs. the US, so they HD hockey that CBC produces is very impessive. But please actually understand the difference between HD and SD and know when your watching HD or SD before going on about how bad the HD looks....It makes you look stupid in the end.

it really bugs me when people just scan through a thread and then post with no idea whats going on.

That's good and dandy but don't jump over people who were happy with the PQ.

After all, DVDs are only SD and most folks are happy with them.

The first game between TO vs Buffalo was in HD. The main camera was not, it was in SD. CBC was using a rental mobile truck, the same truck use by LeafsTV last week between TO vs Tampa.

i don't really follow what your trying to get at.

If the main ice camera is NOT HD, then thats as good saying the game is not in HD. People are judging the PQ by the main cam. Thats what you see 85% of the time when the games playing.

SD Main Cam= Hockey game broadcasted in SD. period. even if every other camera used is beautiful high definition.

Also, I'm not gonna apologize for having a good tv.

i did a bit of asking around, and found out that it can't be your TV that has the great effect on the PQ of SD.

although you'd be correct in saying that a really good TV (perhaps yours) could make video look really good that is SD, this has to be true SD, ie an SD satellite signal, SD from DVD, SD from analog cable...etc

in the case of CBC, all SD on CBC (and most other HD channels) come to your TV already upconverted. Therefore we all recieve the EXACT SAME SD picture, and no upconversion is done by our TV's, we all receive a 1080i signal from CBC.

so although ya certain TV"s are going to show this image with better colour and crisper detail, this is all relevant now, because the SD is HD, so we are pretty much seeing the same image.

i don't have a bad display either, and since i sit very close to it, i can in an instant what kind of signal it is.

SD/HD tv who cares, with a test pattern flashing every minute or so, sound going out every few minutes and flashes every 15 seconds or so it was just not possible to watch SD or HD. otown47 if you watched more than two minutes of the leaf game it was so bad it would change your grin and wink to a big laughing face:p
They should not allow drinking in the truck.

The Leafs game was not HD. Shortly before game time the HD circuit that was booked became unavailable. I don't have the details. An SD circuit was quickly established to take its place. The flash of colour bars were coming from that circuit.

Marc - the Canucks game that followed the Leafs game was broadcast in WS instead of the usual 4:3. Any idea if this will continue? HD would be better, but I will take WS SD any day over 4:3. Thanks.

It all depends on resources. The pecking order is HD, WS then SD. The last time I checked we had 1 HD truck and 2 trucks that were modified for WS. They are assigned to many different events, not just hockey.

Really? During the NHL playoffs there was only 1 truck modified for WS (the mobile D86 - Edmonton (http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/mobile/images/pdf/edmontonD86.pdf)) and it was using equipment that was allocated for another (unknown) facility. Are these 2 trucks using borrowed equipment, or was it purchased for these trucks. Which truck it? The mobile D80 - Montreal (http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/mobile/images/pdf/D80montreal.pdf)? Are there any plans to upgrade any other trucks to WS? Obviously acquiring a 2nd and 3rd HD truck would be superior, but upgrading some of the existing trucks in this way is a good way of prolonging the usable life of the existing trucks until such time as replacements can be purchased.

Wow - it's interesting that all that detail is available on the web for the mobile units. I guess since we all own out little piece of them?
