If Ottawa gets swept on Wednesday, will the CBC dedicate the HD truck to the habs, and therefore bring the truck down to Boston on Saturday for game 6, if necessary, or will they just leave it in Montreal and produce game 6 in SD widescreen again?

Surprise surprise..... somehow CBC is managing to do the Colorado-Minnesota game in HD.
And just when I was getting ready to watch it on RDS with the Versus HD feed.

Also, there's been a Harry Neale sighting.
It would be the TSN Dome truck most likely as TSN is doing a game there tonight.

Hopefully there won't be a game 6.

NHL Playoff SD

I know this is HD digital forums, but does anybody else notice the drastic difference in quality of SD feeds between TSN and CBC?

CBC SD looks awful to me.

What are they doing to make it look so bad?

Every CBC game save the ones from Montreal have been STD. Shameful that Canada`s HNIC network is too cheap to broadcast HD playoff games. Long live TSN.

Actually the Ottawa home and San Jose home games have also been in HD on CBC.

My two cents...

Living in Montreal and being an anglophone, I love to watch the Habs! I must say though I'm disappointed in the supposed CBC HD feed. The HD doesn't seem to be HD at all! Fuzzy, unclear. the close up shot of the coaches and players appear to be HD, but the game itself is not.

I watch the games on RDS. Better commentators than CBC. And the game is in HD for sure!

I feel the same way as you about HD from Montreal. Not sure why but it never looks as good as HD from Toronto, Vancouver etc. I've noticed this on both hockey and CFL football on both CBC and TSN.

I lost audio after the Flames-Sharks game. It stopped when they went to commercial immediately after the end of the game until the middle of Mike Keenan's press conference. Anyone else? I'm on BEV.

Same here. And the video was in fast motion. Too bad--I wanted to hear Kelly's review of the game.

One carrier had sound problems. It was not a production issue.

Marc each time we have lost the sound on that carrier (which obviously you don't want to name), it has been at a transition point like the cut to/from a commercial, to/from the HD studio. Just wondering if the problem could be related to switching between HD and WS SD which often happens at those points.

Why does CBC include "in high definition" in their bumper at the beginning of the games if the only thing in HD is the studio segment? They never used to do that if the games weren't in HD.

I found it pretty pathetic that neither of last night's games were in HD. I can't believe that they wouldn't do the broadcast from Calgary in HD.

Completely pathetic.

Remember CBC owns only two HD trucks. One is shuttling back and forth between Ottawa and Montreal and the other is in San Jose because if the Calgary/San Jose series goes 7 games, 4 would be in HD including the deciding seventh game (so goes the CBC's reasoning). They don't want to pick up the HD signal from the US broadcaster because then they wouldn't have full control of the telecast (picture, storyline) and finally they seem reluctant to rent extra equipment presumably because of their budget.

Given all these restrictions CBC can't do anymore.

Don't forget it would be difficult for CBC to rent an HD truck at this time of year. With baseball season starting and basketball playoffs around the corner, they are in high demand. Since CBC owns their own trucks, they don't rent many and I am sure the rental companies give priority to broadcasters that rent from them regularly.

The shortage of trucks hadn't occurred to me. Good point. What cheeses me off is that the CBC won't even consider picking up the picture from a US broadcaster (VS?). They could still add their own announcers. It wouldn't be perfect but at least we'd see have an HD picture. The CBC really believes that only they (Canadians) know how to cover a hockey game. TSN seems quite willing to grab a game anyway they can and as a result the viewer benefits. How many of us with HD sets have spent more time watching TSN this spring rather than the CBC because the TSN game is in HD?

CBC won't show a US feed because they will tend to be more biased towards the American team playing. Just putting CBC announcers over top won't cut it, because they have no control over everything, where as when CBC does the game, they could ask for a certain replay again. TSN can show VS feeds, and has all season, because they are all American teams, TSN can't produce 3+ games in a night, so they use the American feeds for them. The winner in that is us, by way of us seeing every game this postseason.

Of course the broadcast would be biased but so what? I want to see the game and in HD not SD. No matter how biased the announcers are including the CBC's own, the final score is still the same.
