Atleast the Game is in HD on NBC.

But not in DD5.1, which annoys me about the NBC broadcasts.

Presuming it is in fact Encore in New Jersey, I think the schedule was done that way in case Ottawa was still playing. The truck could then continue on to Pittsburgh for Sunday afternoon.

I really doubt getting to Dallas from Ottawa was in the cards. That's a heck of drive. Also, the Friday game in New Jersey has been a definite one for quite a while now (since the Lightning and Devils split the first two games). Game 6 back in Dallas Saturday night wasn't needed until Dallas won in overtime Thursday night.

Presuming Dallas was out of the picture for HD, that left Friday night or Saturday afternoon. Perhaps it boiled down to simply choosing the prime time game.

In any case, Calgary's game Saturday afternoon is available in HD on NBC. If CBC had gone to Detroit instead of New Jersey, we'd have only 1 out of 3 in HD. With the current schedule, it's 2 out of 3. Only Vancouver @ Dallas is limited to WS. Not ideal, but not bad. They can't get every game after all.

Ooops. Bad assumption on my part. Any other ideas?
I posted this in the Raptors thread, but I just found out that I'm working tomorrow in Dome's Majestic... just so everyone is aware of where that mobile is :)

Cheers!

Yup, when the Sens come play for it in Calgary and I get to see it first hand when they take it back to Ottawa. Hey, a guy can dream can't he? :)

So not only is the Cal-gree/Detroit game not in HD, its not even in widescreen like the CBC website says its supposed to be....what gives???

Vancouver game tonite probably won't be in HD either. pretty bad two 4 Million dollar trucks just sitting around for an entire day. One of the HD trucks should be in Dallas tonite, why not?

That doesn't surprise me. The CBC only owns 2 WS trucks large enough to do a hockey game and one is in Tampa Bay and the other is in Dallas. I was trying to figure out how they were going to get a third truck.

What they should have done is shown last nights game in WS and moved the HD truck to Detroit. My guess is CBC assumed (hoped?) that the Sens wouldn't win in 5 and didn't have a plan for that possibility.

I just noticed that CBC has updated their Stanley Cup broadcast schedule (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stanleycup2007/tvschedule-rd1.html) and tonight's game in Calgary won't be in HD. It actually doesn't surprise me as it isn't feasible to get Premiere from Calgary to Vancouver in 8 hours so they had to choose between it and Game 7 in Vancouver and I guess the Vancouver game won. Game 7 in Detroit is still scheduled to be in HD.

Dal/Van game is in HD.
It was not in HD. It was upconverted widescreen. if you can't tell the difference, then your missing out on a great picture when things are actually broadcasted in hd.

8 hours? They have all night to drive the truck to Vancouver, and then all day on monday to setup at GM Place.

The game better be in HD tonite, if it's not, very poor planning by CBC, and not fair to Calgary fans either, only one of the previous two home games was in HD at Calgary.

CBC needs to get their HD truck out of New Jersey to start covering Canadian teams.

ill happily pay a few extra bucks each year if the CBC would implement the latest HD technology throughout all their affiliates

Yeah, but it's the CBC. New Jersey-Tampa is a better game for HNIC, I guess.

i didn't even watch the New Jersey-Tampa game on CBC, because it was in HD on NBC, but CBC should have broadcasted the Calgary game with the Widescreen truck, and the New Jersey game with the 4:3 truck

This year it's one CBC HD truck for the West (Premiere), and one for the East (Encore). They can't get to all the games, but this is 100% better than last year with only a single truck. Wasn't until the Stanley Cup Final that an Oiler home game was in HD. With all the games in first round, it's inevitable the CBC would miss a game here or there. 2007 or not.

Next year, apparently CBC gets the first 2 picks of the first round series, and then TSN gets the third pick. With the teams that qualified this season, presumably CBC would have selected Ottawa and Vancouver. Then TSN would likely have picked up Calgary. Just don't ask what happens if four or more Canadian teams qualify.

Point is, playoff HD coverage is markedly improved this year. It'll get better next year too.

The problem is, with the exception of the teams in Alberta, California and the Midwest, the western teams are just too far apart. It is very difficult to use the same truck 2 days in a row in different cities, unless the cities are very close to each other. Some cities in the west are so far apart that it is impossible to use the same truck even if there a day off between the games (as was shown last year in the Oilers/Sharks series). As for using the truck that is in the east, unless they want to pay to have the truck flown across the continent (do that a few times and you could have bought a new truck), that is totally out of the question (with the exception of the Midwest which really should be in the east).

This year the CBC used 2 trucks in the west (including a rental in Detroit) and one truck in the east. To have had all the western games in HD they would have needed another 2 trucks (2 trucks per team), but in the east (where distances are much shorter) you can get usually get away with 1 truck per team.
