: CBC HD Hockey - Split from Official CBC Thread
roger1818 2007-04-10, 04:35 PM Remember that many of the Ottawa games included the Leafs.
That is true.
If you took out all the Sens games broadcast that didn't involve another Canadian team then the number is pretty small.
I counted again and the 19 Sens games were divided as follows:
4 against the Leafs
3 against the Habs
4 against the Sabres
2 against the Bruins
1 against the Hurricanes
1 against the Lightning
1 against the Rangers
1 against the Thrashers
1 against the Flyers
1 against the Islanders
So that is 12 games that didn't involve another Canadian team, which I don't think is very small.
Considering that this year the Sens played 19 games against other Canadian teams, I think the fact that the CBC showed 7 of them is pretty good. I would like to see more games against the western Canadian teams, but with only 2 games (per team) every 3 years, there aren't a lot of games to work with.
If you throw A-Channel into the mix you will see that of their 20 Sens games, they showed:
2 against the Leafs,
2 against the Habs,
1 against the Flames, and
1 against the Canucks
So that is a total of 13 of the 19 games against Canadian teams were shown OTA. Not bad!
otown47 2007-04-10, 05:23 PM roger1818, you have a lot of good info here. This is a CBC thread so I would conclude that from the CBC's point of view, they need to do a better job in spreading the Saturday night games around to other Canadian teams in the league.
My solution is to give them first dibs on a Saturday game and if they don't want it then let someone else broadcast it. If its a US game then just show the US feed...like they did last Sunday with the Devils/Pens game.
So lets talk about CBC HD games...I'll bet the CBC has shown more Leaf games in HD than total Sens games...

Do you mean the Devils/Islanders game? How did CBC get that? TSN was scheduled to broadcast it.
So lets talk about CBC HD games...I'll bet the CBC has shown more Leaf games in HD than total Sens games...
Of course. That is a no brainer. CBC was scheduled to show 24 Leafs games in HD and they ended up showing 26. Next year I am sure it will be 28.
otown47 2007-04-10, 06:41 PM Yes sorry I meant Devils/Islanders and by "they" I meant TSN.....showing that any broadcaster can do this.
roger1818 2007-04-10, 07:21 PM They probably could do it, but I suspect that it is a pride issue. Hockey is Canada's game and CBC is Canada's network so therefore they feel that no one can do as good a job as they can.
I think a reasonable compromise would be for the CBC to cover the national games and for them to join forces with an American broadcaster for the regional games.
FYI Both ExpressVu and Star Choice have made arrangements to take separate HD hockey feeds. If the first game goes into OT you will be able to watch the start of the Vancouver game on another channel. ExpressVu 804, Star Choice 295

I wonder whether Rogers will use Leafs HD, since it's "open"?
Bruno Landry 2007-04-11, 07:06 PM WOW. Nice to see the new CBC Sports graphics. They look like NBC Sports. Great! Also, there is no CBC bug on screen.
DSgamby 2007-04-11, 07:27 PM I like the scoreboard but it needs improvement. No Goal and Penalty Announcement that NBC has. At the 1 minute mark of the Sens penalty, the penalty time was removed and replaced by cbc's web address.
notsure 2007-04-11, 07:28 PM I love the new look.
Marc, thanks for the update about the extra channel for the west game in case of OT (you too 57!)
NeilN 2007-04-11, 07:44 PM What's with the disappearing penalty time? The web address is complete waste of screen real estate.
shabbs 2007-04-11, 07:53 PM Yeah - the coming and going of the power play timer is not good. I assume they're still working out the "kinks" in the new scoreboard. I like it so far.
Bruno Landry 2007-04-11, 09:26 PM They should remove the two black bars outside the 4x3 zone. Also, get rid of the web address, only put information there when it's needed.

Agree 100% on this one. Get rid of the bars, a la TSN's scoreboard. Also, the cbcsports.ca can just be color, although I understand they want to pimp their online product.
Bruno Landry 2007-04-11, 10:22 PM No SD cam for the Van/Dallas game. The PQ is great!
Another HD game on TSN.
This is great, 4 HD game tonight.
codywatkins 2007-04-11, 10:55 PM I love the new graphics. Is anyone outside of shawland noticing some choppyness on the Van/Dallas game?
026163 2007-04-11, 11:37 PM the new graphics are ok, i like where they are going, they do need some improvements though before they can be considered 'top notch' like NBC's however.
the problem, is that they are not HD. SD Graphics overtop of HD video doesn't look right, especially closer up. Does anyone know if we will see the graphics rendered in HD sometime soon, to match the HD video. If you look at NBC's graphics, they utilize every pixel, and look incredibly sharp. The current CBC graphics would like great in an upconverted SD Game, but look out of place in an HD game.
... i like where they are going, they do need some improvements though before they can be considered 'top notch' like NBC's however...
As long as they don't get TOO much like NBC. I don't like all the multiple dropping down windows on NBC. There's so much stuff flipping around on NBC's scoreboard it get's annoying.
Damn. Dallas just scored...
canad 2007-04-12, 12:35 AM Ya. The Vancouver/Dallas game looks like its using all HD cameras (except the net cam). Alot better than the ottawa game. Good job!
Juggie 2007-04-12, 01:51 AM Rogers REALLY needs to add CBCHD timeshifting. Kind of off topic, but related since hockey is like the only time it will be used, does anyone know if thats in the plans at all? It would be nice to be able to access CBCHD-Vancouver, same as we can access FOXW-Seattle.
