I am usually not one to complement 'the peoples network' but their efforts for Hockey Day were outstanding. From BC to two different locations in Alberta the audio was great and the picture was "HD"!
When they do something right ya gotta say "way to go" TWG

CBMT-DT(CBCHD Montreal) is broadcasting the HD game between Toronto and Pittsburg. But during commercial, they are switching games to go over the SD game in Montreal. Nice job, hockey without commercial.

the hd game looked good, it's just too bad it was another boring blowout game. The second and third period were outright dull, the leafs aren't at the same level of most NHL teams.

the CBC needs to start moving their HD coverage around i think, if they stick with the leafs all the games are just going to be dull, and they'll be waisting their HD equipment that they can barely afford (since they only have one truck)

Sounds like a broken record that has been played a couple of years now.

I agree with you but I doubt it will ever change.

Sounds like a broken record that has been played a couple of years now.I think you're exaggerating a wee bit as the CBC has just been broadcasting hockey in HD for 15 months so how can people have been complaining about this for a couple of years.

As has been mentioned many times, CBC hopes to have a second truck in place before the playoffs. Once that is the case then they will be able to have two games in HD but presumably in the regular season those will be the Leafs game at 7 plus the western game.

But how can you expect the CBC to not show Toronto vs. Pittsburgh in HD. You have the Leafs which, like it or not, are by far the best draw for HNIC playing Sid the Kid and Malkin. Even if they only showed 25% of the Leafs games in HD this would be one of them!

You can always hope that the Leafs will miss the playoffs so that covering them after the first week of April won't be an issue.

When did Hockey Night in Canada become so X-rated? At the end of the Leafs telecast tonight vs. the Habs, Ron and Don are discussing some topics, and then all of a sudden, Don Cherry looks under the desk and yells in surprise "what is that under there?". Ron replies "oh, there is something hanging loose". The next segment was about skating on the balls of your feet, and Ron kept saying balls with a little smile it seemed like. Finally, when it came back to the live feed, Ron, as he usually does, in an intended pun said "thanks for hanging out with us tonight". WOW. So graphical and X-rated. Maybe they should be on later at night if they are going to talk like this.

No, I didn't, but I missed the first period. Maybe they are having problems with the fibre between Ottawa and Toronto again.

Or it could be my receiver or area. Thanks Roger1818.

man it sucks in PQ,
Compared to the TSN HD game of Habs Penguins couple of days ago, the difference is day and night.

Is CBC going to have another HD truck in time for the playoffs? I assume that must be the goal if there is one in the works...

Marc?

I really like the hd cameras above the nets at the ACC. Is this the first night for this?

They've been doing this for a while. All NHL arenas have this feature for the benefit of instant replay, and for fans at home watching the games on TV. I love this idea that the NHL has done to improve instant replays and to help get the call right. Im not sure if its an HD feature for channels like CBC,FSN,TSN, or its a SD feature as well.

The arenas have had overhead cams for a while, but they have been SD cameras. They are owned by the teams and are required by the NHL for use by the video goal judge (though the networks have access to them as well). I heard a while back that the NHL was planning on requiring all teams upgrade the cameras to HD. I think Doug30 was talking about this upgrade and not the existence of the cameras. Can anyone confirm that they have been upgraded at the ACC? Have the cameras in the nets been upgraded as well?

Thanks Roger1818. I was talking about the upgrade. I just checked the recording of the game last night and the net cams are still standard def as well as the remote camera's above the glass behind the nets. It was in the 3rd period that I noticed the hd camera's overlooking the nets from the rafters(I presume that's where they are located). There were only two replays I saw, one was a nice toe save by Raycroft and the other was a beauty of a wrap around by Mats Sundin.
