Hi if your in winnipeg you should look on channel 48 weather at the bottom of the screen it says " Late breaking news get shaw digital phone for only 29.95" and last week it said 29.95 for only six months. I wonder what this means. and I had a shaw tech here two days ago they said they are getting basic digital phone soon. thanks

basic digital phone plan from Shaw should be less then 29.95...

after all MTS's basic phone is like 24 or 25 bucks or so currently ;)

I heard some rumors too about Shaw offering Basic soon..
But when enquired about it short while back - Customer Service didn't give me any details.. nor admited nor denied it at the same time..

So time will show i guess .. But hopefully soon :)

I would definitely be all about it. I don't use all my calling features (only call display and call waiting), and don't use long distance whatsoever.

Bumping thread!

Shaw is now advertising shaw digital phone lite on shaw.ca and also the weather channel (here in Winnipeg they always make announcements here).

$29.95 (when bundled with 1 shaw service)

# Local phone service
# Four calling features including Call Forward, Call Display, 3-Way Calling and Call Return
# $0.04 per minute long-distance calling in Canada, the U.S. and 50 countries in the U.K., Europe, Asia Pacific and South America
# Access to Shaw International Direct ? competitive rates to countries such as India and the Philippines
# Enhanced 911
# Complimentary 411 service

****

The normal phone service that is $40.00 when bundled with 2 services (at least here in winnipeg, I believe it's more expensive elsewhere).

* Unlimited local and long-distance calling in Canada & the U.S.
* 1,000 minutes per month of international long-distance calling to 50 countries in the U.K., Europe, Asia Pacific and South America
* Access to Shaw International Direct ? competitive rates to countries such as India and the Philippines
* Six no-cost calling features, including Call Waiting, Voicemail, Call Forward, Call Display, 3-Way Calling and Call Return
* Enhanced 911
* Complimentary 411 service

So basically you don't get unlimited long distance, the 1,000 minutes of international calling, and voicemail. Switching to lite phone may be a way to make up the $9 I just had to add to my bill for the HD plus service but I don't know if its worth it to give up voicemail and the longdistance.

That is correct; Winnipeg is the only place that has full Shaw Phone for that low of a price. For the rest of us it's still $55 when bundled with another service.

Myself, I am getting Shaw's $30 service hooked up on Friday. Finally get to kick Telus to the curb.

What?

I've been waiting for this for months because I want to get rid of Telus forever, BUT...

No voicemail and $30/month? So, I guess Shaw assumes because I don't do a lot of long distance calls, I'm too moronic or not important enough to want to take messages? What are they thinking? Everyone must want 3-way calling so badly, we'll include it INSTEAD of voicemail

How much is it to add voicemail? Or can one of the features be substituted?

If this is a nickel and diming gimmick (as is the case with thre rest of Shaw's pricing structure), I'm sticking with Telus. I'm already giving Shaw $150 a month. So for a little under $200, I would still have to pay a few extra bucks for voicemail.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Voicemail and Call Waiting can be added together as a package for $5.95 per month.

I live in Surrey a Vancouver suburb and their phone is still not available in my area.

Apparently a lot of the hold ups with expanding the service is Telus dragging their feet on whatever it is that's required so Shaw can hook into the PSTN and port the #'s over.

If you don't want to pay extra for voicemail you can always buy a digital answering system for like $20. What's the problem?

The problem is my Telus bill with voicemail is $38 per month and I HATE answering machines.

I'm not going to switch to something that requires an APC backup system in case of power failure to save $2 per month.

Once again, we're stuck in the old "half a dozen of one, six of the other" scenario. And we like to call it "competition". It may be choice, but it sure as heck ain't competition.

Well, I am now live. Everything went well. Appointment was for 10-12 and he showed up at 11:15; and was done before noon.

One thing that was a surprised me; I didn't experience any down time. I expected to wake up and have my Telus phone disconnected, and then Shaw would connect my new service. Nope. I had service right through; with about a 45 second interruption while he switched it over.

Everything seems to be just as good as POTS so far; and that is what I have found with any of my friends who have it as well.

pcouture- I understand that it is "only $2", but on $30 it is a 6% savings. To make it a noticeable difference they would have to price themselves out of being affordable. Plus most long distance carriers want $3-5 for a monthly fee even before you make a call. Yes, you can use dial around numbers, so for me Shaw either saves me an additional $5 over Telus, or saves me the hassle of using a dial around number.

I guess I also prefer to have an answering machine as well; if I just miss a call I can grab it as they leave a message; or if there is something I want to keep I don't have to worry about it expiring on somebody else's VM system.

I would call myself satisfied so far; having received what I was promised. Something Telus routinely failed to deliver.

good to hear. I have had Shaw Digital phone since 2005 and only experinced 1 outage which was only 20 min in summer 2006. now the phone service is just like pots and sounds the same as pots so I am happy.

pcouture,

What I REALLY hear you saying is that you just don't want to switch and are looking for excuses not to. You do NOT need a separate battery backup. It comes with the power cord for the modem. Unless of course you have a cordless phone in which case you need a separate battery backup no matter who's phone service you use!

Shaw Digital Phone needs a power backup (which Shaw does provide) because when the power goes out, so too does the phone service after a few hours. Plus, the Telcos (MTS in Manitoba, for example) have price-matched Shaw for their POTS service, so why switch at all?

If you need to ask that question then I guess SDP is not for you.

It certainly isn't. My POTS line is excellent, and the value of the package I currently have beats anything Shaw has put out yet.

Meh... MTS has unlimited long distance in Canada and the US, 24/7 now. Again, matched Shaw.
