: cost of HD with BEV
the duke 2006-10-10, 10:08 AM I am considering to go with BEV for my cottage by purchasing an PVR HD.
I like a lot HD stations, so I tried to look throught the speciality packages offered, and I did not see one specific to HD (like starchoice and Videotron).
so I called, and I was told, with hesitation, that most (expect specific HD channel related to a speciality package) HD channels were free if you have the proper decoder.
However, I read a post, that mentionned a $10/mth for HD channels.
I am confused. Did I get the right info?
Thanks
Yes, the charge for the HD package on bell is $10 a month.
workforbell 2006-10-10, 12:47 PM However to compare to Starchioce you can get the HD pack for $37, (that $27 for digital standards and $10 for HD). Star makes you spend $34 right now and with the added $5 in Jan it would cost you $39 for alot less HD on Starchioce.
haystack 2006-10-10, 01:30 PM You would not even get TSNHD With a $37 bev package You need to sub to the theme packages @ $8 each to to get the extra HD.
workforbell 2006-10-10, 02:29 PM Same with *C.
haystack 2006-10-10, 02:39 PM So now its the same and not what you said before.
"Star makes you spend $34 right now and with the added $5 in Jan it would cost you $39 for alot less HD on Starchioce."
foxfan 2006-10-11, 02:37 PM At least the BEV receivers have OTA tuners integrated in them, so if you're in a border area, you can get your HD networks for free (save $10/month) and benefit from the lower basic package rate.
mac dude 2006-10-11, 02:51 PM You would not even get TSNHD With a $37 bev package You need to sub to the theme packages @ $8 each to to get the extra HD.
If you buy 4 or more, they are $5 each and I believe the 5th is free.
workforbell 2006-10-11, 04:03 PM So now its the same and not what you said before.
"Star makes you spend $34 right now and with the added $5 in Jan it would cost you $39 for alot less HD on Starchioce."
No, it is exactly what I said, for the $34 (soon to be $39) you get alot less HD and you do not get Sportsnet on *C, you would need to buy the sports pack, on Bell you pay $37 and get lots more HD, but not TSN and Sportsnet you would need to buy the sports pack to get both, either $8 alone or $20 if included with 4 other theme groups.
So after Jan 1st, *C with sports would cost $44 and get 19 HD channels, Bell would be $45 with sports and 44+ Hd channels.
Also Bell's HDPVR is much better and cheaper then *C's.
TSN is included in the Essentials with Star Choice.
Theme packs are $8 each if you but less than 5. You can get 5 for $20/month.
ken0042 2006-10-11, 04:17 PM Let's not start splitting hairs over a couple of dollars either way. I think Workforbell's point was that the cost is pretty comparable with either provider.
I would also think that somebody who has spent the money on an HDTV plans to get programming to watch on it. I know my Bell bill is around $85 per month because I watch a lot of TV.
workforbell 2006-10-11, 04:54 PM Correct, there is no 'free hd' out there, bell just shows you what you are paying vs the others who hide it.
If you want HD there are two chioces that make sense in Canada, Rogers and Bell, I think Bell has Rogers beat, but hey I work for them.
haystack 2006-10-12, 12:57 PM Respect to you ken but I dont think that was his point at all.I read his quotes "lots more" and "alot less" to mean anything but comparable
workforbell 2006-10-12, 01:34 PM So lets's compare, $39 vs $37, *C would have TSN, Bell would Not, Bell would 15 other channels *C would not, seems pretty clear to me.
haystack 2006-10-12, 01:52 PM Bell online shows @ $37 you get 11.
Starchoice @ $35 you get 9 and I guess you get 4 more in jan fo$5 For a total of 13 for $39
I_Want_My_HDTV 2006-10-12, 02:19 PM Current comparisons will likely be invalid after Jan 31, 2007. Some of the current free previews will end and there will be changes to HD pricing and packaging. EV will have at least 3 new specialty channels, maybe more network channels, maybe a new HD movie package and probably one or more new HD theme packs. I expect *C will start charging for at least some of its HD. Since both services are reluctant to reveal pricing and other strategies very far ahead of time, it is just a guessing game at this point in time. The only sure thing is that EV and Rogers will be the leaders while Shaw and *C will play catch up when it comes to HD services.
haystack 2006-10-12, 02:52 PM Your probably right but you dont get "a lot more"for $37
workforbell 2006-10-12, 08:28 PM Your probably right but you dont get "a lot more"for $37

haystack 2006-10-12, 08:54 PM Bell online shows @ $37 you get 11.
Starchoice @ $35 you get 9 and I guess you get 4 more in jan fo$5 For a total of 13 for $39
Ya, you may as well talk to yourself haystack.
workforbell 2006-10-13, 09:31 AM Bell has ABC West, Citytv, Equator, Golbal, Movie Central 2, Mpix, Oasis, Raptors, Rush, Treasure, WGN, 4 PPV, NHLCIHD, NFLSTHD, NCAAHD.
None of these are available on *C.
Thats 15 channels, plus 2 NHL, 4 NFL and 2 NCAA, total of 23 more channels right now and more coming.
Yes double.
