Total internet MAX from Bell Sympatico, advertised 16Mbps/1Mbps: Down/up

I get 19Mbps/960Kbps consistently...

I pay around $65/month with 130GB bandwidth....not bad for southern Ontario.

That's what I get with QSat Satellite service. It's around $49 a month, with no download cap, and an advertised speed of 750-1500kb/s. From what I understand QSat buys bandwidth from the American ISP Crawford Communications, which would explain my American IP address.

I used to almost always get over 1500kb/s, but they recently changed the satellite transponder "to allow for more bandwidth", and now the service is much slower. It also now disconnects constantly and during peak hours, it is almost worse than dial-up. Good news is the equipment is supposedly 100% refundable, so I'm hopefully switching to Bell Wi-Max In-Home next week, but I hope I can bare the 10GB/month cap.

Man it sucks to have great service and watch it go down the tubes!

Am happy with my ISP, $34.95 month including dsl modem. Some loss of communication, but most problems are line related (Bell lines are ageing)

LIFE WAS GOOD IN LATE 2006 to summer of 2007. Free install speeds as promised for about 1.5 years
http://www.speedtest.net/result/130711307.png

Then fall of 2007 xplornet started a wave of ads in our area and sold so much a install company opened business in town selling all services of tv,phones and xplornet... The results was the following drop from about NOV 2007 till this post below in MAY2008
http://www.speedtest.net/result/272526105.png (http://www.speedtest.net)[/QUOTE]

JUNE 2008 the pain continues. Neighbor opted for a $600 tower on his free install, only to be posting the same slow speeds i was getting.

TODAYS test show that dialup would be a better choise for the money......

Just switched to Rogers Unplugged 1.5Mb service with an outdoor modem, and couldn't be more pleased! The Bell Wimax installers barely went up the side of the house, and only got one light. With Rogers though, we went up on the roof and managed to get 4 lights! Here's what I'm getting now:

I can't believe the ping times I'm getting, which are close to what normal DSL gets. I can finally play games online!!!

Bell Internet.
5MB service on a grandfathered HSE plan.
Unlimited bandwidth.
$29.95/mo contracted price after retention discount considerations. (the one-year contract expires in Nov 2008 and currently waiting until end of next month to call retentions again to see how sweet they can make the deal to keep my business)

Hey would like to get feedback from people living in Ottawa and surrounding area. I'm currently with Bell Sympatico DSL 5mbps..my results are http://www.speedtest.net/result/350701282.png
It's a complete joke and i called them to cancel my service. I have been looking at NCF in Ottawa...i have read previous posts showing that the avg dl speed was about 4.4mbps and its only 29.99/mth!! If people could post the speed and price of their isp's so i can get a general idea of who to go with in Ottawa that would be great! :)
