Hi, I'm trying to hook up my DVD player to the standard cogeco digital cable box. I've hooked it up via the RCA jacks but can't fnd out how to make it display the DVD player. Any help will be very appreciated.

Click the TV/VIDEO button on your remote; then page through your video connections , shown on your TV screen, till you see your DVD .

If you're still having difficulty, see the Digital Home FAQ (Under help) "how to connect a VCR or DVD Recorder and cable STB".

Edit 2006.10.04. This information is for a DVD Recorder. The OP has a DVD player, to which this doesn't apply. See posts 5, 6 below.

Hmmm, are you talking about the universal remote that comes with the standard digital cable box? I know the equipment can vary depending on region but from your username I think it's a safe assumption that we're talking about the same ones. Still, my black universal remote does not have a "TV/VIDEO" button.

57: I read the FAQ you suggested and the problem is our TV does not have composite video or S-Video, only cable. Is there a way for the DVD Player to function through the STB or not?

From what I understand, this is not a DVD recorder that you have but a DVD player. If it's a DVD player, there probably isn't any RF connections on the player. It would only be RCA, S-Video and Component. I don't think there are any input on the STB that would shoot out the video out in the RF cable. You're probably better off with a new TV or you could try with a DVD recorder or even a VCR/DVD combo.

We have one of those at home on our small 13 inch in the kitchen. I can hook up the STB through the input of the VCR/DVD and send out the image through the RF connection to the TV. Then the DVD and STB can play through a RF cable or else, I don't see how this would be done.

Wow, excuse me for misreading the first post. I feel so silly. Please accept my apologies. I've deleted a previous post which was incorrect.

One of these RF-modulators would likely work.

VCRs often don't work because the invoke copy protection, even for "passthrough" signals - see the link below:

You will need to connect the modulator directly to the TV, not "through" the STB. I believe these modulators will switch signals, so you also connnect the STB to the modulator.

What is the make/model of the TV? What connections does it have? If it only has RF-coax input, then use that. If the recorder doesn't have RF-coax out, then use one of the modulators discussed in post 6 of this thread.

If you have a digital STB, see the following post which discusses the necessary connections:

If the TV only has one RF-coax input, you would need to purchase a switch to allow you to view the output of the digital STB and the recorder separately. Rather than doing that, I'd suggest you purchase a new TV. New 27" TVs are under $200.
