Cyclism 2006-12-06, 03:15 PM Hey everyone:
I just checked the AutumnWave website and they have released new drivers and updated the program for the OnAir GT. A list of fixes and improvements is also there.
I have yet to install them but will do so as soon as I have the chance (tonight) and will post my findings.

Wayne 2006-12-06, 03:40 PM I'm eager to see how much the new portable TVs will go for starting in March, when digital tuners will be required in ALL TVs, regardless of screen size...But this will not be a requirement in Canada:
Just like CableCards are not required.
Just like STBs with active Firewire are not required.
Just like no deadline for analog to digital transition.
...
Although since it is a requirement in the US then the TVs will all be built for the US so all North American models will likely be built to US specs. But they have already been required for TVs from 25"-35" for 9 months, have they not? I seem to recall lots of TVs without digital tuners for sale in FS and BB.

Thanks. I'll check it over too.
jbracing24 2006-12-07, 12:15 PM Just a word of warning to updating the GT program, make sure you exit from timer and remote control programs first (icons in right system tray). If you are using the tuner up to the point of update, they'll probably be open and the new program will not install properly. Thank you Ryan for a 5 minute response to my email, a phone call no less!!
I always save these downloads to desktop until successful, so, in the event of a problem like this, it's there for a second attempt.
Nice to see that the GT program retains your previously scanned channels.
Walter Dnes 2006-12-10, 12:00 AM Nice to see that the GT program retains your previously scanned channels.
Yes, very nice. The recording schedule was also retained even though I've done 3 loads, due to stupid Windows newbie mistakes. Now I know what Windows users feel like when trying out linux the first time:)
The tuner is definitely more sensitive than the Samsung TS 160 I've used up til now. You've heard of "Tropospheric Ducting"? Well I've got another type of ducting. I'm in the 5th storey of a 10-storey condo building, with a south-facing bay window. I have a CM4221 antenna and a pre-amp in my living room. But, there's a 15-storey building directly in line of sight between me and Grand Island, where most of the Buffalo stations have their transmitters:(, so no direct reception of Buffalo, but the local channels come in great.
But if I swing my antenna another 45 degrees west until it no longer faces out the window, but points at the air duct (hot in winter, cold in summer) the TS 160 can pick up WNED. But reception is somewhat flakey. With the AutumnWave, WNED comes in much better, and I also get WIVB and WNLO. WIVB is a bit flakey on occasion, but not as bad as WNED with the Samsung. This is the same antenna plus pre-amp. The only change is that the coax from the antenna is plugged into a different tuner. WIVB is stable at about 18 or 19 db. Any lower, and it starts breaking up.
Right now, I'm "enjoying the full glory" of a 17 inch computer monitor sitting on top of a cart. Late February, I'll be getting the real thing.

That wouldn't even be possible with the T-451. I can point my antenna north toward Hamilton for 15-1 repeater and with the Autumnwave GT also get most of Buffalo and Toronto without moving the rotor position. The T-451 get's only 15-1. I would be surprised, though, if the "sweetspot" remains constant all year and in all types of weather.

I did research this issue. On most systems, the installer is able to quit the Scheduler & Remote Control program automatically. In a few rare cases, Windows doesn't allow the installer to quit automatically. It is rare to see this happen, but I'll keep an eye on the issue. I may add an extra step to the Upgrade procedure on our website.
Thanks for your feedback! It was a pleasure speaking to you on the phone.
Regarding the new software, we're aware of a bug with IE7 that prevents TitanTV functionality from working. We're testing a possible workaround. (In the meantime, you can use Firefox or IE6, which work fine with TitanTV.)

Related question; the OnAir GT device must *NOT* be connected when first installing the original driver/program combo. Does it have to be disconnected when upgrading to a newer driver/program combo?
Cyclism 2006-12-11, 09:20 PM Walter:
According to the instructions , you should have the unit unplugged from your PC before installing the new driver. Once the driver is installed you can connect the unit to the PC. You can then install the new program.

The updater will remind you to unplug the unit before installing the driver update. Ryan told me that it didn't matter for the program update but you might as well plug it back in at that point.
What happened in my case was the program failed to load completely because the installer didn't quit the scheduler and remocon programs properly.
rpertusio 2006-12-12, 10:30 AM Hi Walter Dnes, Cyclism and jbracing24,
Yes, as the Setup instructions indicate, unplug your OnAir GT while upgrading the Driver. (While updating the Program, you can leave it connected.) The Driver installation tries to replace 'hdtvgt.sys' on your computer, and if the GT is connected, Windows won't allow the installer to replace the file.
Most of the time, if you do accidently leave the GT connected, Windows will prompt you to restart your computer so it can update the file. (To avoid a mandatory restart, unplug it first!)
Also, just FYI, I posted a new FAQ yesterday, which may be useful to some of you: Getting the best reception - Tips & Troubleshooting (http://www.autumnwave.com/component/option,com_easyfaq/task,view/id,41/Itemid,179/)
Thanks!

awai_00 2007-02-26, 09:44 PM Call me another HUGE HUGE fan of the OnAirGT USB box. I'm watching Heroes from WGRZ-HD right now and it runs incredibly well. I only have a Centrino Duo 1.6 Ghz machine with 512MB and it's completely smooth running at about 60% CPU usage.
I could go on and on about how good this little box is, but I know others have done that already.
For those who want another option to buy this thing, I ordered it from the US from CyberEStore. It cost me $185.29 US by way of paypal and another $13.70 CDN to the mailman since they let me ship via US/Canada Post. Got it in about a week.
montery 2007-03-01, 01:25 PM Hi everyone,
I saw the note about the HVR 950 not doing QAM tuning, and started to wonder if this is why I'm not getting any digital channels?
I've basically got line of site to the Mt. Seymour towers from downtown Vancouver, and I can pick up 6 or 7 analogue stations, but nothing digital.
Anyone local using the HVR 950 to get digital signals? I'm not running a laptop, and I'm using a TERK HDTVi interior antenna. I'd like to review the software settings because I'm not certain I've got the software configured properly.
Thanks!
Cyclism 2007-03-01, 01:42 PM montery:
Just to clarify, QAM is digital cable, ATSC is OTA digital. Read the instructions and make sure you are doing a scan for AIR - DIGITAL to pick up digital OTA channels.
rpertusio 2007-03-01, 01:44 PM Thank you awai_00 for your comments! Glad you enjoy your OnAir GT.
montery,
QAM only applies to 'Digital Cable'. All Over-the-air transmissions are '8VSB' standard. You may need a more powerful antenna, more sensitive tuner (OnAir GT), or adjust your settings. In the worst case scenario, you may not be in the right location (environmental issues) to get OTA digital.

JohnL 2007-03-04, 05:57 PM This is another USB tuner with additional software such for timeshifting, transcoding etc.
List $149.98; try googling for some reviews. The issues I saw mentioned were: heat, audio synch, SD PQ.

I've purchased the OnAir Creator. After patiently wait for 12 days. paid much with canadian taxes. I got a lemon unit. It will not power on, no matter what. What should I do? I am going out of town like right after I receive my product. I am out for entire 4 days. Is there anything I should do or I should exchange one from copperbox.com?

sam91 2007-04-11, 01:00 PM I purchased Aeromax Digital USB 2.0 ATSC HDTV/ NTSC Analogue tuner that was described as new off of ebay. The seller said it works fine, and it does. I'm not exactly sure of the make, but I payed $80.00 and it's from Korea (supposedly a new model). I was wondering if anyone has any info on this or can give me any tips that are not mentioned in this thread? I live in Brampton, Canada and I only will use indoor antennas. The software I use is Presto! PVR that came packaged with it.
An image of it is here:

kneedfreetv 2007-05-04, 08:17 AM Does anybody else have this item on their arsenal? I am having problem recording anything from FOX 29-1. The video is not in-sync with the audio. But every other channel that I record is okay. Watching tv is okay, but once I record it, it is not in-sync again. Anybody know what could be happening? Recorded House and 24, both of them not in-sync.
