Wireless Number portability arrives March 14th, 2007 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/898/139/)

Edit

The article above is from September 2006.

The following is a more Recent article (http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/1728/1/) from March 2007 that lists some things you’ll need to know if you are considering transferring your phone number to a new wireless phone provider.

actually porting-out will come first before porting-in

porting in will be made available what is it 3 or 6 months AFTER?? Rogers and Fido already have the ability to port in. All Simpro Subs were ported to Fido when simpro was taken over.. All Rogers Telecom (sprint) subs were ported into Fido too. Hey they did it BEFORE the deadline so what does that tell u

Does this also apply to portability between a landline and a mobile line? I want to cancel my Bell landline service and move that 416 number to a Rogers mobile account.

OK here are the facts...I work for the wireless data department with rogers...Porting Can go from cell to landline...landline to cell...cell to cell(Either way)...so for example a rogers number to telus or a telus number to rogers. And rogers and fido can do the telephone number porting right now because they are both owned by rogers...that doesn't involve porting from different providers regardless of the title on fido. It rolls out March 14, 2007 and as of right now rogers is not planning on charging any fees for porting.

drewber23,

Just to clarify one possibility. I currently have a landline with Bell and a mobile with Rogers. Therefore, on March 14 I'll be able to transfer my Bell landline number to my Rogers phone and then cancel my Bell service? Also, how would the timing for this work if I am porting the same number to my mobile?

thanks

Very excellent info. Which department will be able to do an Inter-Carrier Port rite now? NSG/WTS/Wireless Data?

Right now they are doing it on a have to basis...which basically means "I am going to cancel my fido account and go to rogers...but if u don't let me keep my number I am cancelling with fido and going to bell" or vise versa. But they will do it...

I have a buddy on the inside, and he says they are quite behind. He said not to hold my breath on March 14th.

will there be a fee for this? Usually the industry will charge for whatever single littel thing they can charge. I for one am trying to go away from Rogers... but to where? :p

fido doesnt charge for porting landline numbers into fido's system, so i dont see them charging to port numbers from bellus or other carriers either at this time.

care to share how much they'll be charging (not like there's any point in moving from Rogers to Fido since they are one and the same anyway).

Thats strange, I have no idea where you get your information from!
But who ever is feeding it to you, you should re-consider your sources.

According to Fido.ca/portability fido will NOT be charging customers to port numbers.

:: How much is this going to cost? Will I be paying for it?

Fido is not planning to introduce a cost for porting either in or out of our network at this time. However, customers will be responsible for meeting their contractual obligations with their old carrier, and for paying any outstanding bills.
