I think the question was "when is BEV going to release a new [I]receiver[I] as a replacement (upgrade) to the 9200"?

I could be wrong, though.....

when the last update isn't a good indication of the release...

it's really hard to say, sometimes they are months apart, sometimes weeks...

9200 replacement will be around this time next year, it will be the mpeg4 version of the hdpvr with a larger HD.

It's nearly identical but please dont be fooled by the "larger" hardrive... The unit is setup to allow for only 25 hours of HD recording just as the 9200 is even tough it has a 300gig hard drive VS a 250gig.
And since I dont see Bell switching to MPEG4 anytime soon if ever... I wouldnt deprive myself of an HDPVR for another year for no reason... rent on a 1 year contract if you have too...

More information please... Are we talking about getting a free replacement for my 9200?

Would this only be to those who currently rent a 9200?

What about those who own 9200, such as myself?

I'd hope there'd be some sort of exchange either way??

The above statement is pretty clear to me.

I have a 6000 and two 9200s. Does that mean I will get 3 replacement receivers? The replacement for the 6000 will require a working firewire port for HD recording. Will I get that?

I seriously doubt there will be a free upgrade. They aren't in the business to throw away money. I doubt they are plannning to convert to mpeg4 so soon. I noticed they are experimenting with QPSK in the stream. They wouldn't be trying that if the plan was to move to mpeg4

Doubt all you want, ExpressVu has already made the orders to Echostar for the replacement receivers.

That statement is ABSOLUTELY MEANINGLESS! Those receivers work with both MPEG2 and MPEG4 streams... it does NOT mean Bell is going to MPEG4. Are Bell's current birds (Nimiq 1 & 2) compatible with MPGE4? Probably not.
Are you telling me Bell is considering investing money to replace these birds? How many REAL HD channels are coming in the future anyway? It would be more cost effective to launch a new bird that can handle both MPEG2 & MPEG4 but leave everything MPEG2 this way you dont lose a fortune replacing customers receivers and you also prevent alienating and angrying your valued (ya right:rolleyes: ) customers.

P.S. The situation in the US is different as US sattelite companies, in order to compete, need to provide 1500+ local HD channels and therefore have no choice but to move to a more efficient less bandwith hoging codec (MPEG4). It will be 15 years (if ever) before Bell offers 25 CTV's, 25 CBC's and 25 Globals in HDTV.

....Perhaps this is related to why BCE stock continues to be so lame.

Ummm...mpeg2/mpeg4 whatever has no effect on the "birds".

BCE plan for the future: IP Television

QualityIsJobOne, I guess bce could just buy back a ton of shares to force the price up like the shaws did.

unreal1080p, Bell has ordered mpeg4 receivers for the purpose of swapping the entire field to mpeg4 next year, Echostar has also agreed to buy back the old receivers. They will slowly swap out the field mid to end of next year, at that point they will move all hd over to mpeg4. This is not a maybe, any shareholder can confirm this by asking the question at the next shareholders meeting or call.
