vister555 upgraded his receiver's, he had to pay a small fee I believe. I'm sure he can clarify this.
Barter,

You are correct. Dish offered existing HD subs a swap (tradein/up) deal. They also offered tons of other promos and even now offered a new promo for existing and new customers. New subs receive a ViP622 at no charge and no lease fees. Existing can lease for a $149 up front "lease" fee which you get a $50 credit off of and if you are a new MPEG4 HD sub you will also receive $10/month for 10 months. Net fee = $0.00.

There are no monthly "lease" fees if you identify this ViP622 as your "first" unit on your account.

So, yes there still is a "swap".

Bell called me today and said they have some 9200's in stock if I wanted one. I asked if I do rent the 9200 on a yr contract, will they upgrade the receiver to the new one that is coming out out. They said NO as I will hafta keep the 9200 for the duration of the contract...WTF??

desman, even if they release the new receiver in Q3 (apx. Sept.), I think it's safe to assume there won't be any Mpeg4 programming until sometime next year. Just my opinion, but I doubt they'll start transmitting in Mpeg4 until enough customers have receivers to justify the cost and bandwidth.

Eugene, I do not think so, the whole idea of MPEG4 is to increase bandwith to get more channels on the transponders. I think they will start sooner than 2008. They are proud of the moniker the most HD in Canada, they are close to loseing that tittle.

I think they are going to use this as a new revenue stream. Keep the current level of HD stations for current models. If you want to get the added goodies, you need to upgrade - for a fee. For new subs they just force them up to the newer model (much like Dish Network).

I think it's the only thing that makes sense from a business point of view.

I suppose they could release some new HD channels (mpeg4 format) at the same time as the new receiver as an incentive for people to upgrade their receiver.

Ultimately, I wouldn't be surprised if they created a second HD bundle at an additional fee. I HOPE NOT, but I can't see Bell keep adding new HD channels and keep the price the same.

If it turns out that a hardware upgrade is needed to get all the HD content, I'll be dropping everything with Bell. I've been with them since almost day one, and the nickle and diming is enough already. We'll have to see how this all unfolds though.

Dish would allow a swap of my owned 942 for a leased 622 and 18 month commitment. I would also be charged $200, with $100 back for return of the 942, I would in turn be given back the other $100 as monthly $10 credits, but those credits can only be gotten once, so if you had 2 942's, you're still shelling out $100.
No thanks, a swap to me means they swap my 942 for a 622, no extra conditions. Sorta what they did when they replaced the old Dish 1000's with 311's, swapped out with no conditions attached.

Personally I doubt Bev will go to MPEG4. The reason they are replacing the 9200 with the 622 is because Echostar doesn't make the 9200/942 anymore.
Bell has yet to use 8PSK, why would they use MPEG4.

If you have a look at the numerous pages in this thread, you will see the discussions about Bell running out of bandwidth. By changing to Mpeg4, Bell will be able to feed their customers more HD without the use of more Sats.

Geez....I have no idea where you get the info you present. The swap program ENDED Jan 31, 2007. Now if you want a ViP622 on a lease it is $149 upfront with a $50 credit back on your account. If it is identified as the primary receiver there is NO LEASE fee and if you go with the DVR Advantage or AEP programs AND keep the receiver plugged into a phone line there is no DVR fee. I.E. the IRD is NO CHARGE...and under the above circumstances and no monthly fees.

There is also a purchase credit available, but it is nearly identical except there is no Dish-n-it-up credit available...

On the lease there is also a Dish-n-it-up credit of $10/month for 10 months ALSO available. That makes your receiver a $100 credit instead of a cost. Dish-n-it-up is only available once a every 12 months with a three tuner or two receiver limit.

Yes if you are a first time MPEG4 HD sub you also get $10/month off your programming for 10 months, but it is a one time only credit.

I recently bought the 9200 at FS , should I return it before the 30 days are up and wait till the new reciever comes out or keep the 9200 and hope for a swap?

Once the receivers are activated the store doesn't take them back...unless FS as a different policy it's very unlikely that they will take the reciver back.

Do you have any technical problems with the receiver?

Just returned two 6100's ( the full kit with the dish etc ). We are existing customers, and bought 2 hd tv's and bought the two kits since its the same price as getting just receivers.

Then we changed our minds wanted PVR's. FS will take them back...some stores are easier then others too. The one we got ours at doesn't even activate them...they just sell them like other merchandise. The downside of this is that Bell doesn't know you bought them so you don't get any promotion credit from Bell if there was a promotion.

This is big deal since each 9200 has a $300 credit till the end of the month. So I made the CSR print out a copy of the promotion screen on their internal website. The manager didn't train anyone to activate the receivers, so they never call Bell to clear the inventory. This is why it makes for easy returns though...

I have had no problems with the receiver. I wish I would have read these forums before I purchased the 9200, I would have waited. I should have known something was up when I went in to the Bell store and they did not have any 9200 in stock.

Dcormann store will NEVER activate a receiver. Only CSR could do so... WHY? Because we need to have the receiver hoocked up in order to make sure you are getting a signal, that the software and revision is up to date. Once receiver is activated on the account stores usually don't take them back. If there is a technical problem only tech 3 would take the receiver back and send a new one. If you return it at the store they won't take it back.

As for the promotions all new clients, regardless of which store they purchased the receiver are entitled to that 300$ credit. The application of that credit is not the CSR responsability, but our billing departement. Your contract is send by the vendor to our internal billing departement and they are the ones who put the credit on the account. To be eligible you have to activate with a minimum of 47$ programming taught. Unfortunatly that promo is for new clients only and if you were an exiting client you woudn.t get it

Dcormann in your case the only promo you will get is first 6months of HD programming at half price...the 300$ promo is for clients that open a new account! Unfortunatly it is impossible to print a page from our web site and send it. We can send an e-comm, in other word a pre formed e-mail about a specific subject were you clieck on the link and get directed to bell.ca

I apologize for the quality - no scanner here so I used my camaera.

http://kozmik.guelph.on.ca/bell/fs_promo.jpg

Took a picture of the promotion at FS. I asked the CSR to print it out since I knew I was going to have a hard time with Bell on this. You'll see it mentions new and existing customers.

When I mean activating the reciever, I do not mean what a person does at home when they call bell to add the reciever to the account. I am referring to the anti piracy measures that Bell has made stores do to keep track of inventory. Some stores don't do it, or do a poor job. The one local to me doesn't do it...which is why they don't hassle you to return Bell recievers, and why I had no problem returning 2 6100's - even after I had activated them, and used them for a week.

Spark, this thread is speculation.
If you want to return your receiver you may be waiting a long time for a new one, they haven't been officially announced yet.
And personally, I would wait a few months after that to let the inevitable bugs get squashed.

No one can tell you whether or not to return it and the concept of a swap is also pure speculation.

Coudn't actually see the prints too well, but I do confirm that the HD promotion with receivers at half price is only a promotion for new clients...existing clients will only get 6 months of HD programming for the first 6 months if they RENT the receivers

Dcormann you will run into deception...

If you were promised something else it's an in store promo and we are no responsible for it's application, the store is. Who printed you that promo? Bell or FS?

Cm soo, the swap is speculation, but ther would definetly be new receivers out, apparently in June. As far as fonctionnalities or mpeg2 or 4, yes that is truly speculation...
