Agent Express V; so you are saying that my statement is accurate. As a front line CSR you know nothing about the possible new HD BEV receiver beyond what other members of this forum have speculated here.

I think it's totally unlikely that they will make a receiver that woudn't be compatible with the existing receivers, therefore making all receivers obsolete.

That is something which everyone will agree with, they have to make the new receivers backwards compatible. Otherwise those who get the new ones wouldn't be able to watch anything until all the old ones were replaced.

The reason the old receivers will be obsolete is because of MPEG4. Now go read the whole thread to find out why Bell needs to switch to MPEG4. Nimiq 5 is going to be launched in 2009. Do you really think Bell is going to let their competitors have two years to catch up and surpass them? I find that less likely than them spending big bucks to keep their lead.

Yes and no... The day they stop selling the receivers we had a message in our internal information system explaining us that these receivers were not sold anymore, that they will lunch a new one soon. So I was aware before I saw this forum.

As for the trade thing, yes I saw it for the first time on the forum, then verified the info with our senior tech (level 3) which told me that this is truly speculative, nothing like that has been discussed, that they only thing they could confirm is that new receivers will eventually be out. He said that the person who posted that on the site most probably wanted something to impress and most probably got what he wanted by "taking out inside info" that were not.

Hmmm I have heard from the Bell Rep in Manitoba that it is happening. The 9200`s and the 6100`s are in sell off mode, you can`t buy one from Bell.

AIO is still avialable from what I have heard. Huge changes in the wind for Bell this year in HD. Just because a Tech 1 hasn`t heard it doesn`t mean it is not going to happen.

It is the only way to increase capacity (MPEG4) , it is going to happen, just when in 2007.

Okay, I spoke to various reps and personages in Bell ExpressVu over the last week or so and I was told repeatedly by all that there were no plans in the mill for a replacement for the 9200. Furthermore, they informed me that a new shipment of 9200s was arriving next week and the order backlog would be filled. That's solid evidence that the receiver is not being replaced in the near term. After making sure of this, and on their recommendation, I went out on Wednesday and bought a 9200 to replace my old 6000. It's installed and working well, except for a minor issue.

Cheers, Don.

By the way Radiologist I am tech 2, no tech 1. And if you would have read my post you would have seen that I informed myself before putting and answer on the site ansking tech 3 people who are usually the one replacing the receivers. The agents taught I was joking at first... No plans, no rumors of this happening

Wouldn't it make more sense that BEV would use the expansion available on the receivers to add MPEG4 decoding instead of replacing the whole unit? I assume that port on the back is USB2.0, it would have enough bandwidth to support an MPEG4 add on.... If this were a reality, wouldn't it not make sense to skip basic MPEG4 and go straight to MPEG4AVC ( aka .h264 ) and save even more bandwidth?

Or does that USB port allow the addition of storage? ( I seriously doubt it. )

On another note... I talked to a Bell rep in an Ottawa retail outlet and they said that they would be moving to MPEG4, "maybe" by the summer. There was no official confirmation... They also said that more 9200s were coming in soon, they were just sold out.

It is a black IRD with 2 remotes---one silver and the other black.

It states" 2 TV HD solution ".

Looks a lot like the Dish 322

I don't know anything about BEV's plans, but it is pretty safe to say that hardware wise they have always done and continue to do part of what Dish Network is doing, and they have and continue to use the same hardware. So, the 9200's USB port can be used only for connecting a hard-drive based devices (like the Dish player), not MPEG4 decoder. At least that's all Dish Network uses it for - they don't have MPEG4 USB device, neither will BEV.
Also, as far as North American satellite providers are concerned, whenever you see "MPEG4", read "H.264".

It is priced at 3 bills after credits down to 1 bill.

It is only 1 receiver it looks like the 3100 but it has a silver and black remote just like the Dish 322.

I am going to investigate this further.

The ad says 2 TV HD solution.

Cheers!!

could you post your rep ID, so we can make sure that we are credited for our replacement HD boxes?
i would guess, that some sort of "trade in" value will be deducted from the purchase price of the new mpeg4 box
however, seeing as the 9200 was selling for $600, i would expect the next generation to be in the same price range
i have, and so have friends, broken promises from Bell reps before............
you will not be charged for this installation, you will have high speed available in your area next year.......
sorry if your prediction leaves me a bit skeptical
its just tv though.....

Actually after looking at the ad this one is confusing... Maybe a 6100 and a refurbed 3100?

Since it states 2 TV HD solution.

I had a 9200 on the way but due to not having any left I had to wait. The Bell installer called me and said he could get me a 6100 but advised I wait as Bell is coming out with a new reciever in April sometime. Take it for what its worth.

It shows 1 receiver with the 2 remotes. Now how they get the 2 TV HD solution is beyond me. Now if it is I know the 6100 does HD but what about the other?

If it is for 2 6100 refurbish maybe?

Tried calling last night was onhold for about 10+ then gave up!!

Will try again.

Cheers!!!

I think it is a play on words. It is a 2tv solution with HD included. It looks like a 6100 and a 3100/3200.

I HATE TV Bell won't be breaking any promises as WE DIDN'T PROMISED ANYTHING!!!

I've been saying over and over that this is only speculation!!!

As for the new receiver that should come out in April, it's truly impossible...they haven't got a compgny to make that receiver!

So Bell is in a sell off mode of the 6100`s and 9200`s, no 9200`s are avialable to purchase, so customers go elsewhere for HD PVR`s? Now that is what I call a good business plan!! Maybe AgentExpressVu you do not know everything that is going on at Bell. I find it hard to beleive that this company would go months and months without a HD PVR to rent or sell since this company is driven by market penetration. But I could be wrong, I doubt it though.
