Just an aside...

I hope Bell will give current HD subscribers the option--with an appropriate price discount--to move from the 6000 to the 622 PVR. Otherwise I'm out of here and I will satisfy my TV needs from the Net, using "bit torrent".

Ok....now I have to ask this question.... since the new receivers were just on the horizon, why have a firmware update for the 9200?

Don't get me wrong, I like the new features and the bug fixes....but is this a sign that the new receivers won't be coming any time soon? Or it will be a very long process? I think we all knew that it was going to be a rather long process, but still...any speculation?

When I first read on DHC that the "swap" for new receiver might happen as early as April, I knew better then to hold my breath.

Bell hasn't formally made any announcements of a replacement or the timing of it. Until then I'll enjoy the 9200 and not stress over "what if's"..

9200-6100 are in fact in stop sales... Manifacturers are not longer producing those 2 units. Rental is still available for both models.

As for swap of receivers...this is truly speculation! There was never an annoncement made (even internally) that anything like that will be done that I heard of. There is nothing on Info Zone (our agent information system) mentionning that.

I'm waiting for a new install of a 9200 - under the rental program. After ordering - I was given an install date of Feb 27. Later got a call saying that there were no 9200 units available, and they were waiting for a new units from the supplier. They rescheduled my install for March 13 saying they'd be available by that time.

What does this mean? Will I get a 9200, or something else?

Since a new receiver hasn't been announced I'd assume your getting 9200.

This entire thread is speculation, it may make sense in a number of ways but nothing has been announced formally, not even a new receiver let alone a swap program.

I talked to TECH3 agent tonight for one of my client... Ask the agent about the possibility of that this agent is right and that all HD client get free upgrade... He told me he never heard of such a supposed "trade of receiver". He told told me that this is quite impossible as Bell haven't hired yet a compagny to make their new HD receivers. He also asked me:"Why would Bell replace receivers if they do not have a problem now"?

He also pointed out the fact that Bell didn't upgrade receiver for their 1000 model owner when it would have only cost them 100$ to get a 3100 or 4100, so why would Bell replace 600$ 9200 model or 300$ 6100 models?

PS:We at customer service never heard of such a trade, even if you call to get more details about that you won't get an answer, so it's useless to waist you time. No dates for the release of the new HD model neither...

If you read this thread, you'd know the reason for replacing the 6200 and 9200 is because they will no longer work if Bell changes their HD system. They'll be doorstops. The 1000 probably works for SD, to this day and so it wasn't replaced.

Agent, it's not about having problems (even though I can't believe he would say there are no problems as I have a 6100 that has plenty of freezing issues, so problems definitely exist) it's about changing the format from mpeg2 to mpeg4.

If HD goes from mpeg2 to mpeg4 and my HD receiver (which is only 2 years old and cost me $400) now cannot see any content or any new content, where does that leave me as a customer. Paying to upgrade to a new HD receiver? I won't do that, I'll leave EV.
If they leave mpeg4 for a couple of years and the HD marketshare doubles, then what, same problem but twice as many customers to deal with.

I'm not trying to sell the notion of a swap as I have absolutely no clue, it does make sense on some levels but who knows, I am still skeptical. Personally I just like entertaining the notion, but as for having to explain "why" this might happen, were on page 13 of the thread and the rationale is all laid out clearly.

I think what Agent Express V tried to emphases on is that NOTHING IS OFFICIAL YET!!! She says that they didn't even choose the compagny who will create the receivers for them...so has to start trading receivers or even selling them, it could take a while!

She was also trying to emphases on the fact that internally there was no buisness decsion to update the receivers as she mentions that TECH 3 as no info pointing to that. Woudn't they be the ones making such a decision?

I think the fact that a front line CSR doesn't know about a potential receiver upgrade means absolutely nothing.

Once any new upgrade is official, they will devise an upsell plan and then pass that info along to CSR's. How many times have you called and they haven't tried to sell you something more?

I've called CRS's that didn't even know the 6100's had a freezing issue, I've called CSR's that didn't even know what timeshifting was. So I agree that CSR knowledge, at whatever internal company ranking, is meaningless.

Again, if you read back thru the thread and see how all this has come about you'll see lots of skeptical debate. I believe most people are skeptical, a bit hopeful, but mostly are simply debating the merits of new receivers and the resulting impact/possible solutions.

I don't think most people who follow all the thread take any of this as gospel. The only people who think this may be official is someone reading the last few pages thus lacking in the full context of the thread.

I know one thing. If Bell wants to keep touting themselves as HDTV leaders they are going to have tostart adding more HD channels that Rogers already has.

I didn't say CSR, I said TECH 3 (or senior tech they call it for clients)...and they would normally be the group doing that replacement if there was one planned.

They didn't even hire a compagny to do the receivers itself...so it's hard at this point to know what will the receiver do better and how they will make that receiver available.

I think it's totally unlikely that they will make a receiver that woudn't be compatible with the existing receivers, therefore making all receivers obsolete. Have you taught about how this will cost them? Hire the people to make the products, then GIVE the receivers whithout making any money on them? Not Bell's type...

Notsure all agents were made aware on the day that they stop selling the 6100 and 9200 that a new receiver will be out soon. Altought we weren't given a date on when it would come out and the specific tecnicalities that this receiver will have. All the main information is usually onInfo Zone, our internal information system. Unfortunatly, we don't always have time to read what's there since we have to do it on our time, whether our break or before-after shift...or when there is no call, which doesn't happen too often!

Personnally I was aware of the freezing issues with the 6100 and I know what timeshifting is...

Also lots of agents do not have BEV at home, since as vendor we do not have agent discount on the service. Lots of agent, and techs have never used or seen a BEV receiver other than in the training class. It's always harder to explain something when you never done it yourself.

Playin TV fan is right, if there was a receiver swap planned TECH 3 will be aware, if not involved in that swap since they are the ones we usually call for receiver replacement.

Notsure we have to make a sales attempt every call, if not we loose 30 points on our quality evaluation if they listen that call. If we get a note that is under 80% we loose part or all our bonus. At 10$/hour at the vendor I work for nobody will forget to do their sales attempt and hope for that 1.50$ to 5$/hour worth bonus

Playing TV Fan Every single point you bring up has been discussed several times over, read the entire thread instead of arguing points that have been hashed out already.
Your analogy of "giving" the receiver away shows you haven't read the thread in depth.
I'm not pushing the notion of a swap one way or the other but your comments are rehashing the same points that have been addressed many times over.
