: Free Shaw HD box...?
crazycanuck 2006-10-12, 11:00 AM I did the rent to own on the 6412 and it is exactly $25 per month for 36 months (this includes all taxes etc.). So in the end you pay about $50 more. I couldn't afford the up front cost so this was a good option for me otherwise I wouldn't be watching HD for another year.
brokencity 2009-05-16, 01:29 PM A couple of ways,
Tell them Telus gave you a sales call and you are going to be switching, the customer service rep,(you must go to a store for this) they will try and change your mind. Be reluctant but listen, and tell them Telus is going to give you 2 free HD boxes with your subscription. They will either offer you a free HD-PVR or offer you the top of the line HD-PVR for $348 the $700 one. so you can basically get it free if you have a decent bill plan with shaw already so they can hide the costs in your subscription or possibly separate your payments for the HD-box so you don't have to pay the $348 upfront.
This is a great deal, try it.

I got mine yesturday.
:) (nothing is life is really free) :)but you can get somethings cheaper than others.
shawguy 2009-05-16, 01:38 PM This thread was almost 3 years old....yes things have changed now....do a quick search of the forums.
vjose78 2009-05-17, 11:34 PM Just received a letter from Shaw on Friday offering a free HD PVR if I switched back from MTS, so I guess its true.
Lee_Roy 2009-05-21, 09:44 PM Thats what I did. I was on Telus TV and the hd was crap so I switched to shaw and got a free hd pvr.
visiter555 2009-05-22, 02:49 PM Well as one who has received totally "FREE" (to own) Shaw HD PVRs (3416 new not refurb), I have to disagree with you.
Winnipeg is a competitive market for Shaw and they do winbacks frequently. Some have even gotten free boxes on a retention deal (owned again NOT leased at no charge!).
Shaw sends mailers to "occupants" of Winnipeg homes that do not subscribe to any Shaw service with these offers. They also agressively persue the Sat Winback free offer in Winnipeg as well.
bkushner 2009-06-06, 12:14 PM I currently only have shaw internet and I need to add cable to it or go to Bell. What is the best Shaw can do for me does anyone have any insight? I would love a free rental of hd receiver.
Shaw Guru 2009-06-08, 01:45 PM I doubt you would get a free rental HD PVR. You may be able to get a cable deal depending on your area. Also if you want a PVR they are available for rent now at $19.95/month. Call Shaw and the Sales team will be able to help you out.
mgershk 2009-06-11, 11:59 AM FYI: I was told that these are not "NEW" HD PVR, but rather refurbished ones.
I don't trust refurished products.
It even states they are refurbished on the postcard that you get from Shaw.
cooper83 2009-06-11, 12:19 PM I don't trust refurished products.
Shaw's warranty covers the unit for 3 years, free of charge. That might help ease your mind about these particular units.
mgershk 2009-06-13, 11:11 AM I also live in Winnipeg and I want to trade my satellite system for the Free HDPVR. However, how were you able to get a New not refurbished Shaw HDPVR system?
Thanks.
All the best,
Mark
tablo 2009-06-13, 11:18 AM That happened to us too, when we're on Bell TV, Shaw sent us an ad saying digital basic for $14.95 for 6 months and first month free. Yes, they rent the box for free, not giving away and it's not free HD box. Free HD box would be sweet since there's no digital OTA in Edmonton yet.
mgershk 2009-06-14, 12:33 AM Do you get a new or refurbished DCT700 terminal with this offer?
Thanks.
tablo 2009-06-15, 07:45 PM I think it could be refurbished because it came with just simple SHAW box, but there was no manual and stuff(I don't really know) but remote was new, I can tell it.
visiter555 2009-06-17, 08:12 AM Do you get a new or refurbished DCT700 terminal with this offer?
Thanks.
I received a new DCT3416 and a new DCT700 in April.
My g/f received a new DCT3416 and a new DCT700 in end April/beginning of May.
All four boxes were free, not "rental". All four boxes were new in the box with all accessories/manuals.
All still had the plastic covers...
