Starting this Fall, the Sirius-branded cards will be available in denominations of $50 and $75.

They can be bundled with a Sirius satellite receiver, or simply purchased separately.

thanks, I found them at walmart in Mascoche(no best buy here)(montreal suburb),, but the idiots charge tax on them while not charging tax on cell phone, long distance or walmart gift cards, and the source and future shop (in mascouche) didnt even know they existed....I argued at the cash with the cashier but to no avail...heck they even rung it up the first time as a phone card.... employee didnt even know what it was.... I called sirius canada and told them this... and they too.... were dumfounded and said it was probably walmart store policy... and there was nothing they could do.... and TO ADD ICING ON THE CAKE..(for those of you who remember me as the guy look for a way to activate and pay for sirius WITHOUT a Credit cardor borrowing one from a friend) told me to get a prepaid siruis gift card.. well YOU STILL NEED A CREDIT CARD TO USE THE GIFT CARD wtf??>>>>????? sirius canada.... if you are reading this,,,,,, please get your darn act together,,, and resovle these issuses,,,,, no wonder people are going grey (or staying).... or trying to hack the thing....... and hugh...... Please dont delete this as I want people to know about this..... darn I am Peed off about this!!!!
thanks for letting me speak.....

I also ran across this problem at Christmastime. We bought a Sirius unit and gift card for the father in law and discovered that a credit card was still required to activate the unit. This defies all marketing logic as far as I'm concerned. It would be nice to be able to give a gift card as a gift and not require the receipient to use his/her own credit card to activate it. Sirius needs to take a very close look at this policy.

Its not just a sirius canada thing xm requires a cc as well when useing gift cards.

Who cares if XM does it. It's stupid. There is no reason for Sirius to need a cc. It's cash. If I go into a store and buy something for cash, the retailer doesn't asks to see my cc.

I suspect this has to do with all fraudulent gift cards in circulation and suggests that maybe the gift cards aren't secure.

Ditto to the above.

As a Cdn I renewed or extended my US XM sub this past summer using a gift card. I dont recall being asked for my cc at that time  .

It has nothing to do with that.

Sirius has been accepting the Gift Cards without a credit card since mid-December.

just for fun I called Sirius today

as a new customer, you cannot activate your new Sirius reciever without a Credit Card, eventhough the new packages say Debit, CC or Gift Card on the box

CSR told me i should borrow a card to put on the account and then use Gift Cards

There is a mistake on the box. Debit cards are not accepted. Credit and Gift Cards are. If you have a rep saying something different they're mistaken. Accepting gift cards is a different (and new) process for the reps because technically, the system how they see it, does not allow for gift cards as a payment type. They have been given a process to get it done. I'll have the Call Center "refreshed".

siriusdude,

You summarily dismiss me and tell me that I'm wrong and say that "Sirius has been accepting the Gift Cards without a credit card since mid-December."

I'm not sure how you can say that when three members, as recently as yesterday, contradict what you are saying. I suspect those three are just a tip of the iceberg since most wouldn't post that information and aren't members here.

I have no doubt that for public consumption Sirius is saying they NOW accept gift cards with a cc, but it's clear they are not.

If they do now, it makes one wonder, "Why did they need it in the first place" unless there was an issue with the Gift cards?

If coporate policy was that Sirius TRULY was accepting ALL Gift Cards, without a cc, then a simple email to all CSR's a month ago would have resolved the issue.

As an aside, the issue of Gift card fraud in North America is HUGE. (see recent issue of Business Week magazine for a very interesting article on the subject). They cited retailers using such things as cc and sales receipt verification as ways to reduce fraud.

My apologies. I didn't mean to summarily dismiss you. You stated that you suspect it had to do with fraud. It did not.

As for how I can say that the gift cards are accepted without a credit card it's because I work there. In the lead up to christmas the change was made. It was made knowing there were going to be a lot of Gift Cards under those trees and Sirius wanted to ensure service for those customers. As I have said, it's still a new process for the reps. Now, I'm not disputing that some members have recently been told a credit card is needed. I believe they were and it bothers me. I have said I would deal with that as a training issue for Customer Service.

If any DH members have tried to use a Gift Card without a credit card and have gotten this response I welcome a PM and I'd be glad to assist them.

Oh and frigging walmart CHARGES TAX on the Siruis pre paid cards also,,,, not the other prepaid gift and LD cards they have at the check out,,,,
AND sirius dude.. if you work at the cape breton call center,,, tell your buddys to stop asking for a damn CC with a prepaid card.. cause JUST TODAY as I bought another sirius ONE unit for my father and I HAD TO SIGN A MIN 3 MONTH SUB and imprint it on my Credit card even though I bought a 75$ pre paid card to use,,,,,, all I can say is that I was extreamly upset with that GUY on the other end of the phone and he know how I felt after I was done with him... BUT on a lighter side,,, I used a Prepaid cc you can get at Money mart that had a -.66 cent balance on it..(yes I FINALY got a prepaid credit card lol)makes me soooo mad.. and we want the service soo bad.. but yet we cant STICK it to them... geese its frustrating..... I wish I could hack the dam thing.... then I bet they would make it easier to pay for,,,, and another thing,,,,, its 2007 now... were they not supposed to let us pay buy Pre auth debt.??? like sometime last june?? geeze,

I'd imagine the easiest way around this is simply to buy a prepaid CC from Money Mart to put on the account, just enough to cover the first months sub, then add gift cards.

I'm not really experienced with prepaid CC's and their exp date, but picking up a prepaid CC every few months (pending short exp dates) to pay for a monthly sub isn't ALOT to ask because its not something that is hard to do. I mean it's harder for people that live far from a Money Mart, but it's not so much as a loophole in the system than it is a way around having to apply for a credit card.

I agree that they would have a lot more customers if they allowed people to pay by other methods, but they don't have any other methods as of yet and as a consumer, if I don't like their current policy I don't sign up with them. If I do want their service (which I have) and didn't have a credit card, I'd get a prepaid one.

Ok...I had Customer Service "refreshed" on the policy. I would love the feedback to see if it's still happening.

So, today I went to wal mart and bought the stratus and the bombox, plus the $75 gift card. I heard about the problems some have had using the gift card and still being asked for a credit card. I called to activate the radio and was informed that yes you do need a credit card even when using a gift card. I said well I don't have a credit card. The rep then said I'll take care of that for you and signed me up with out a credit card. So far so good, still getting used to the radio.

Yeah I think they did charge tax on my whole purchase, although when I looked at my recipt the $75 gift card was charged at $74 or something. Not sure if that covers all the tax but it did make it a bit better.
