: New Rogers Broadband Pricing:
Notice came in the mail today.
Extreme (6 mbps down, 800 kbps up, 100 GB cap) - $51.95, plus $3 for modem, if you haven't purchased ($99).
Express (5 mbps down (New), 384 kbps up, 60 GB Cap) - $43.95, plus $3 for modem, if you haven't purchased ($99).
Prices effective August 28.
Rogers makes it easy to change services at the following website:
www.rogers.com/extremechange
I'll be going with Express since the only thing it'll change for me is upload speed and I'll save $1/month, instead of my bill going up $7. :)
wysiwyg 2006-07-24, 05:39 PM I got the same notice in the mail too. Well, I've been loocking at options for a new ISP and was hesitant since I was happy with Rogers, but this will do it.
Price of internet should be going down, not up!
Canada: $51.99 for high speed 6Mb/800kbps here compared to
France: $50.00 for High speed ADSL2 24mbps/1mbps + Digital TV (100+ channels) + VOIP service including unlimited calling to 30 countries...
Where's the competition?

It has to be a lot more cost efficient to provide internet and other telecommunications services to a more densely populated area.

Keep in mind that Southern Ontario is the primary place where Rogers provides service, so it should be more cost efficient from that perspective.

Express has been $46.95/month for a few months now... I don't see any change.
Well, I've been an Extreme customer and perhaps grandfathered at $44.95. So, my bill goes down $1. Others may go down $3.
I don't think Express used to be 5 mbps down.
Even though I was on Extreme, I was 5 mbps down, 800 up. Now I'll be the same down, but 384 kbps up, which shouldn't make any difference for me.
I don't quite see the relevance of prices in France. If you want to compare, it would be good to know pricing worldwide, not just some specific (cheaper) country. I believe our pricing is/was below the US, but that may have been when our $ was lower.
Proteosome 2006-07-24, 09:12 PM Express used to be 3 mbps down. Several months ago they bumped us all up to 5 mbps. It was great and I have to thank Rogers for doing it.
k4kman 2006-07-25, 06:41 PM Well I for one was a little disappointed they did not increase the cap
They should have added another 50gig that way everyone would be happy
my problem is I do between 60 -80 gig a month so downgrading is not an option for me
Freakshow 2006-07-25, 06:45 PM I am not sure how much i download a month, what happens if you go over. I am prob gonna downgrade also. Damn rogers bill is getting out of hand every month
You can view your internet usage by registering an online account with Rogers.com (with your cable account #). You can check you previous three months usage and your daily usage for the current month. Rogers will suspend your service until the next billing month if you go over the cap.

i don't think they do it the first time you go over - it's a soft limit. A second time though and I believe you will get a warning before being suspended.
marvin23 2006-07-26, 12:46 AM Does the 30 day cancellation policy apply to Internet? i.e. do we have to change to Express by July 28th so we don't get hit with the increase after Aug 28th?
I know for cable if I cancel a service today the change doesn't show up for 30 days and I keep getting charged for it.
I know for cable if I cancel a service today the change doesn't show up for 30 days and I keep getting charged for it.Cancelling would be different from changing.
ANY change that I have done has always been effective the day of the change. I made several changes recently, some of which reduced the price. (recently changed to VIP Ultimate).
It may therefore depend on the type of change.
bgclarke 2006-07-26, 12:40 PM No changes for me (already on Express and the Express price is not changing).
Anyone know what modems they sell for the Express service?
I've still got a Terayon Tera Pro that I've had since they dropped the old LanCity modems.
Anyone know what modems they sell for the Express service? Motorola Surfboard, I believe.
maddawg 2006-07-27, 07:40 AM Time for me to reconsider changing internet services.
Drainc 2006-07-28, 02:38 PM I was ticked off at this. Sure no price increase in 2 years but also a reduction in service as well. They took away my newsgroup service so I had to pay $10 a month elsewhere for that! They also outsourced their mail to Yahoo. I agree bandwidth prices should be going down, not up. In any case I called them up and complained about it. I stated that I'd be happy to pay more if they increase their bandwidth, but I see no service increase to me for this huge increase ($7 for me as I was at 44.95/mo on extreme service). So they put me through to customer relations and I argued for a $10/mo credit for 12 months to keep me a happy customer.
I'll be shopping around next year if they don't increase service before my credit runs out.
bucephalus 2006-07-28, 08:35 PM If Rogers had stated or even implied in their letter that they were going to somehow enhance their service, I probably would have let the rate increase ride.
As it is, I'm going to keep the Extreme service as I think even at the new price it's value for the money. However, for strictly financial considerations, I'm going to pare back my TV cable sevices. Specifically, I'm dropping SportsPak and saving $25.00 monthly. So with the Extreme price increase I'll still be $20.00
a month ahead of the game.
I'm tired of my Rogers bill looking like my Visa bill every month.
Thanx Rogers! You've saved me money.
callummcgraw 2006-08-02, 02:05 PM I called Rogers to reduce my cable services because I was a little upset at them raising Extreme Internet by $7 /month. I ended up dropping the TMN movies package and other channels, saving me about $45 /month. Then they transferred me to drop my Extreme Internet to Express Internet and the CSR offered me a $10 /month credit for 12 months for me to stay with Extreme. I will stick with Extreme for now because the CSR kind of indicated that there were big things in store for Extreme Internet, but he said he could not give me details.
BayStBoi 2006-08-02, 03:56 PM While it doesn't deal specifically with the Extreme tier of service, Rogers announced a new offering today:
The "Elite" tier will offer 18Mb download, capped at 100GB (with an overage charge of $1.25 / GB beyond that). Price will be $99.95. Available starting in Q4.
