...1 bug... when I press Options-6-4-6 I get booted out the the menu. ...
This 'feature' has been broken since the original DSR500.
The Video Adjustments didn't work and the design was clunky.
So it's been temporarily taken out.

The plan is to use an calibrated overscan slide in the background with a pop-up box that will allow you to centre/adjust the output.

I have no idea when we will see that though.

Wow, all you guys with problems with CC are spreading bad luck :) LOL
I beta tested CC and never experienced ONE problem with it. After your posts, I experienced my first problem with it. Today I was watching CNN, and the receiver just shut itself off. I pressed power and it came right back up. All in all though, I'm much more pleased with CC then any of the others.

I had A8 before with only having to reboot about twice a month. Last night with CC my 530 crashed while pausing live tv. I do like the new feature though..

I've had a similiar problem as well. The night before the download the receiver just shut itself off and then Mid-morning the day after the download it shut itself off, twice again. This even after doing a power plug reset first thing in the mornig to make sure the code loaded properly. I'm starting to wonder if staying with A8 would have been better? I only had to reset once every six or eight weeks with the old code.

I also posted earlier about the "JUMP TO" feature not working and was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with this before I called Starchoice??

The last time I crashed CC was on June 26th. It crashed twice that day but after resetting it by unplugging the box for awile and freeing up some HD space it's been solid since.

I had BC prior to CC and I noticed as the Hard Drive filled up problems started to occur much more often. I don't think that the disk usage specified on the DVR list is always accurate. At the end of BC the DVR list would specify that I had several hours of HD remaining but all my new SD recordings failed. If anyone has any broken recordings on their box like I do, I don't think that the box properly registers the time of those recordings.

I find CC the best release yet. I would be interested to know if those who are having problems with it are close to filling up the hard drive or have it in a place that's not allowing it to vent as it should.

Back on April 2nd when the USA Showtime channel was in free preview mode I connected the 530 to my big dish and was able to record Showtime HD. Has anyone else tried the same on their BUD?

Hey...how many of you guys had CC long before us???? Seems there are some Beta testers here who kept hush hush!

I had the "cc" code targeted so I shut the receiver off last night and when I turned it on this morning my receiver went back to the "oo" target and I still have the "A8" code which is fine because I"ve had pretty good luck with it. I've had to reboot maybe once or twice in the last few months and I'm recording stuff everyday!

How did you get tuned to the channel!?

How did you get tuned to the channel!?

I noticed mention of the free preview on Digital Home Forums and Pointed my big c/ku dish to 123.0°W and my StarChoice 921 receiver tuned in all the free preview channels. The StarChoice map on the 530 had a couple of channels that matched up with the free preview channels and one of them was Showtime HD.

Hey...how many of you guys had CC long before us???? Seems there are some Beta testers here who kept hush hush! There was a total of 5 members here plus myself that have had CC in advance as part of a very tightly controlled field test.

Remember all the flap a year or so ago, well it was true and those that discounted the invitation got left out and those that took the opportunity have been privelege to stuff no others have had.

They had to be hush hush or loose the privelege to comment on bugs and features.

None the less, virtually all the comments here made it back to the development teams one way or another, that I can gaurantee.

That is why several of the enhancement requests the members made are included in the release with more to follow.
Also how a major effort to address all the concerns repeated incessantly by DKS, a.k.a. Kevin270 were put to the top of the list.
Hopefully he approves of the efforts. If not c'est domage!

Those that have been around a while and can put 2 and 2 together along with recent comments can likely figure out what was going on.

If you understand all the techie stuff, you can also find the manual tune screen in 1 of the hidden menu's.

Sniff, sniff, I feel all left out....

This I have been wondering about. Pretty obviously the beta testers would be under a 'gag order', for want of a better term. However as everyone appears to be coming out of the woodwork after this release, does that mean the program has ended and isn't an on-going thing? A shame, if so, as it appears y'all did a good job!

I'd feel a lot more secure about development of the firmware knowing there's a team of experienced users outside the company testing things as they progress (though I'd like to see 10 - 20 people at least). Unstructured employee testing can be quite tricky to do right for various reasons, especially for Starchoice employees given the fact that 50% of the time they're at work during the best 'beta testing' periods of the day.

It froze up on me yet again tonight. Was watching my recording of The Office and had skipped through the last set of commercials, and was watching the last 3rd of the show or whatever, then when it was over and I went to push Stop, nothing, no buttons responding again while program continues to play. I let it go to the end of the recording and it just freezes on the last frame and the menu doesn't come back. I want my A8 back :(

The only odd behaivor I have with CC is the status/time bar seems to be 'sticky' sometimes, it does not always go away when the enter key is is pressed. It is not consistant, I'll have to experiment a bit more on when it sticks, I was watching a recording while having the problem, and think it worked better on live tv . Anybody else have the same problem?

CC is the most stable version so far.

It's not perfect yet, but if someone still continues to have so many problems I have to shift the blame to the user as well.

I believe that the machine under normal situations works reasonably well.

Myself I have a few small issues, but in no way hinder the usage of the machine. I have had a couple random lockups. No big deal imo.
I can live with a lockup once a week. :)

With CC I have to put some balme to the users and their set up.
To put it mildly this machine does not like heat.
I think turing the fan off was a bad idea, at least we should have an option to turn it on.
The noise only bothered a few people anyway.
As I was saying the machione does not like heat and if it is warm/hot in the room, the machine starts behaving oddly.
I've noticed it the other day when it was really hot in the room.

For people that have constant lockups, please move the machine to a more open space, or better try having a fan blowing air to it for a couple days and see if the problems persist.
I can almost guarantee the machine will become much more pleasant to use. :)

I have my 530 for about six months now. I only had version A8 and did not suffer too much from lockups (2 per months maybe, not sure).

My machine is an open space since i was told not to put it in a closed area because of the heat. The temperature in my house is always 21 degrees celcius.

So far, i like version CC very much.

Don't mean to debunk your theory but...
I've had the 530 since it was released. The noise drove me nuts after a couple weeks of use so I stuck a piece of wire into the fan to shut it up - this was all well before the fan was disabled through firmware. My 530 is in a cabinet with a door that is always closed so there is basically no ventilation. Through A4, A8, BC and now CC I have had very few lockups and have had a much better experience with it compared to others.

I record a fair amount of SD and HD material but I don't keep much on the hard drive either. I watch it and delete it except for some kids movies that my 6 year old likes to watch over and over and over again. I've never had the drive more than half full. It's been reported that maybe disk usage is related to some of the problems. I don't know.

:

To clarify: You say there is no ventilation but Is your 530 sitting directly on top of another component that generates heat and how much free space is left above and beside the 530? Also some people only cool their houses in the summer when they return home from work so most of the day the environment may be very hot and humid. Even though we may turn off the 530 it still remains on and is warm.

I also notice that the 530 works better when there's lots of space left on the Hard Drive compared to almost full (same thing with my pc).

The 530 is on the bottom shelf by itself with about 0.25" of space on either side and about 6" of space above where there is another shelf. The back is also solid except for some small holes where the cables pass through. I never turn it off. The house AC is on all the time and is set at 23°C. Diagnostic screen shows the temp at 55.

I installed a heat sink+fan on mine and it's been working very well since. (did that on BC code)
