I have (knock on wood) not had any lockups in a few weeks. It seems to go throough phases maybe with a full moon or something. One month little or no lockups...then for a week a lockup almost everynight. I find it very strange

My experience is about the same as danpryce, except my lockup phase has been this past week.

While speeking to a CSR today I asked about the new download and when it would be released. She told me to start turning of my receiver at nights starting tonight as it will start being sent out in the next couple of weeks. She said that they are not setting a date but Motorola told them to start advising there customers to start turning receivers of at night.

The way their dragging it out, my postulated D0h release is more likely to be D4 or later.

Aren't they also re-doing the complete channel lineup?
Around the end of the first week of April?

I know they never went below channel 200 due to the "Cable Buddy" DSR470 product, buts it's probably a good time for us to get used to a new lineup if all the locals will be going HD over the next few years, or maybe to make way for the OTA tuners, they need to re-jig the maps.

ARR if I remember right early on you said that there were not going to be any HD icons in the guide listings for the HD channels in the new guide to indicate if a show was in HD or not. Do you know if it is still so. If not how will one be able to know if a show is in HD or not for recording purposes. Anything that is not in HD I always record on the SD channels.

Thanks Wade

The HD icon will appear in the Program Information box along with other icons, like Dolby, Closed Caption, etc.

Since the HD channels are grouped and well known, simply highlight the program of interest in the guide and observer the icon or not.

If it's not there, then choose the program from an SD format channel.

If anybody has a 207/317, perhaps they can confirm that as I don't beleive they would have changed that part of the IPG for those models.

With a little luck, we'll all know for sure in a few weeks acording to CSR's and rumours here.

Well, it looks like my 530 is cooked. A factory reset was no help and I can't even change channels without it locking. Mine is 21 months old, is my best course of action to mention the Jim Cummins warranty? Thanks for any help.

Only if you want a free replacement.

Well, I have two 530s, the upstairs one has locked up frequently, and the downstairs one went berzerk, by getting zero length recordings, at least one corrupt recording, and lockups. After replacing the downstairs one, things were good for about 4-6 weeks, now it is starting to choke again. *Choice did a whole lot of work on the old one to no avail, multiple reboots, format, erase, power off/on, stand-on-your-head, etc. Last night the pause button was not working properly - it would pause for a moment then just start again a moment later. Maybe it is time to complain again. Can someone point me to documentation about the "Jim Cummins warranty" please? I would like it for the next call, I want to replace both units this time.....

Can someone point me to documentation about the "Jim Cummins warranty" please?

Well, after several months of relatively stable operation, the HD channels started causing problems a few weeks ago. First I couldn't record them - if I set a timer for an HD channel, the machine just ignored it. Then, it started locking up every time we tuned to an HD channel. Finally I called last week, and the CSR discovered that the signal to one of the inputs was low and scheduled a service call. The tech came on Thursday and fixed the cable and did something at the dish itself (I don't know what) and everything seemed good. I had the machine on a couple of HD channels all afternoon, recorded a couple of things, all looked good.

Then, Thursday night, the machine had been off for a while, turned it on, went to TMNHD, watched for 30-40 minutes, then it locked up again. Front panel reset two or three times, all the while trying to quickly change it to a non-HD channel before it locked up. Worked OK again all weekend staying away from HD.

Today, took a deep breath, changed to PBSHD, went to check the signal strength - locked up. Called. (two minutes holding time, at least that part was OK) CSR said - don't do front panel resets - you'll make it worse. Unplug the power and the cables, let sit 1 min, then plug everything back in. I suggested perhaps he should get the other CSRs on board with that advice since I have frequently been advised to do front panel resets.

Anyway, it wouldn't come back on - no way. Seemed like it started to cycle the blue lights, then stopped. After a couple of unplug, plug back in sessions, we finally tried a front panel reset, it cycled and cycled and cycled through the blue lights. After a couple more tries and three hours later, I expect it would still be doing that if I hadn't unplugged it.

So, after all this, he asks me when I got the machine. I tell him Sept 2005. He makes noises about replacement charges, I tell him no way. I mention the Jim Cummins warranty. He's never heard of it. He goes to ask two supervisors, they've never heard of it. I tell him what I can remember, which isn't too much, just that it's supposed to be good for a year after CC was released.

After I cry a lot about how the machine never worked properly the first year I had it, and then only for a few months after CC came down, finally, he agrees, does me a big favour, says he'll send a new one for just $13.99 shipping. It should be here in 7-10 days. We'll see how that works. Now I'm off to download the shows from the Internet that were sitting on my hard drive that we didn't watch yet.

And if someone could provide more details about that warranty, it would be helpful, it seems we can never find it when we need it. I searched on every keyword I could think of and can't find the original info about it.

Last week I seriously considered changing to Bell, did all the research on prices and options, etc., but I really like SC and don't want to leave. I sure hope this new machine works.... It will be my second replacement.

I was on with a CSR for about 20 minutes last night after my 530 kept freezing. Criminal Minds had 5 broken recordings:eek: Seeing I had called in a few times before about the 530, it didn't take a whole lot of convincing to get a new unit sent out. At first the gal said I would need to pay the $199 seeing my unit was 2 years old. I quickly brought up the Jim C. warranty on the July 18th. CC code and after 1 minute on hold, she asked where I had got that from. I directed her to here and mentioned all the others getting new 530's. A minute later she said a new unit would arrive in 7-10 business day:D Thanks Digital Home Canada:cool: While she was processing my 530 we chatted about the possiblility of a new code. She said that the latest version was still being tested and she was hopeful of a May download. She also told me that she has had a lot of conversations with Motorola techs and that each new code has a ripple effect where it will fix 3 problems, but create 3 new problems at the same time. Hopefully this new code helps us all and a big thanks to this forum and it's members!

Hi everyone. You will all be happy to know there will be a new Firmware version downloading into the DSR505 & DVR530 some time by the end of this month! :D Receivers will be loaded over a period of a week with the new 8PSK update in time before the launch of the 3 new French HD channels. The rest of the HD channels will become 8PSK some time in the month of August. So anyone with a DSR201 or DSR500 will be called some time only once by an outbound team about it. You will only have the one change to talk with the agent. No second chance. Trust me, take the offer.
At the same time the new Firmware arrives other bugs with these receivers will be addressed. Will have increased stability of course amongst other new things. Take this info only as a rumor as nothing has been confirmed. Don't bother calling the Call Center about this either, most of the agents don't know anything about the new version yet.
Channels numbers will also be redone. Yes, StarChoice channels will no longer all be above 200. That means we have to get used to the channel numbers all over again. All HD channels: 2-89, all Music channels 90-134, Radio 135-199. Everything else will stay as is.
And interactive TV some time soon. Its already been advertised where you can check the local weather report, Horoscope, games, 1week guide with search, more... Kinda like Bell ExpressVu's crap. Hence the new DSR317 & 207.

If SC phones me with DSR500 offer reported here earlier; they will have 0 chance with me. Trust me, SC will be outta here.

Well things are getting worse. Multiple freeze ups most nights. 3 or 4 last night. Many broken recordings.

I have buddy with a 530 and he is going through pretty much the same thing. He thought it was just his unit, until I told him it was common and widespread. I don't know what the multitude of people who are not aware of this forum are thinking.

As a company I do like SC but this cannot be good for SC image.

There is now an order form on the *C website for the upgrade offer. Quite painless, I'd say.

I had the same problems with my 530 and I solved the problem for myself and I will tell you how. First it took 3 replacement receivers. I got a brand new one not a refurbished one. You can tell this by the last 3 numbers in the unit ID NUMBER, options 6,4, & 7. This number will read 099. Then I had the LNBF changed on the dish, it seemed like the switches for the voltages were not working right. Since this was done I have had no freeze-ups and not one problem with recording anything in HD. I did very little recordings on SD so I dont't know if the problems were with SD too. Out of 10 I am 9.5 satisfied with the operation of my 530. I had my new one since early January. I hope this info helps all SC customers with the DSR 530 freeze-up issues and recording issues because it worked for me and I am a happy CAMPER. I had to do one front panel reset do to a IPG guide issue and it fixed itself. Good luck to everyone.

How many hours of programming can you have on your hard drive? Our 530 works flawlessly if we keep 5 hours of HD or so on it, but if we get less than 15 HD hours remaining, it's virtually unuseable.

I've went down to about 12 hours of HD recording and have no trouble, but it seems to work better not recording alot of HD content on it. What I do is when were finished watching a HD show the recording, I erases it right away. With SD you can record as much as time allows, but personally I only record HD and SD cartoons for the young ones.
