Thought I'd wake up this old thread. This movie was on TMN-HD this week and was enlightening. I liked the way that the movie looked at electric (and other) vehicles from a number of angles. It was interesting how many insiders they got to talk to.

I'm a real car nut and they presented a lot of information that I didn't know - for example, what happened to the cars. Definitely worthwhile 90 minutes.

Edit - one line in particular that I liked in the movie went something like: "I don't want to turn down my thermostat in winter, I don't want to drive around in a small car, I don't want to live like a European".

Yeah, I'd like to see this flick, too...but I think its title is a bit misleading or premature, since all indications are that GM is ramping things up for production of a *practical* electric car, namely the Volt hybrid/electric. Basically, if you commute less than 64 Kms per day, this thing will never burn fuel.....if you drive longer distances, the tiny engine willl burn fuel to re-charge the onboard battery-pack, delivering somewhere around 80 miles to the gallon. Let's give credit where credit is due.....GM didn't really kill the EV-1, it just used it to "evolve" a superior final product.

Just my $0.02.....

bete_noir, you need to see the movie... ;) (It wasn't just about the EV-1)

The DVD extras were also very good since it more updated information and the "hope for the future" for the technology.

I was surprised it wasn't nominated.

I liked the movie, with current battery tehnology the EV1 get get 300 km on a charge.

Honda is susposed to release a hydrogen fuel cell car in 2008-2009, I wonder how that would fair.

Did you know:

Candians lead the pack in regards to Electric powered vehicle research. Did you know that most of all industrial battery powered vehicles where either made or the technology came from Canada.

Just do a search on google for electric power vehicles and Canada will come up on top. From Buses to industrial trucks and carts.

Candians lead the pack in regards to Electric powered vehicle researchThat's chiefly due to Ballard in Burnaby, BC. They're funded by several of the major automobile companies to do hydrogen cell power research.

This movie sounds very interesting. I think Jay Leno had a joke about the EV1 along the lines of "Of course it was going to be a failure. Who would want to be in a car called an 'IMPACT'?!!!" :D

The car was only leased and you had to "qualify" to drive one. As a result, many celebrities had them.

Good doc.

Who would want to be in a car called an 'IMPACT'?!!!I don't know about that. It seems that a lot of men want to drive a truck called "Ram".

Then there was the "Charger". Hmm, maybe that's what they should have called the electric car. :)
