I have a new Moto / StarChoice DSR 250 w/ the IRC 451 remote. I also have a Philips ( 27PT5245/37 ) 27" CRT TV built in Dec. 2004 ...

I can not get my remote to turn off the TV. I've tried punching in 1000 through to 2080 ... (that took about an hr) ...

if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

If you can get the remote to turn on the TV, but not off, then the TV has discrete power codes for on/off. Most of the "simple universal" remotes do not have the capability for discrete on/off.

Most remotes also have a "scan" feature, so that you can quickly run through all the codes in a couple of minutes. (Not sure if yours does, but check the operating manual).

Turn on the TV with your TV remote. Press on "TV" (on SC remote) untill TV,Sat,Vcr,DVD and Source flash. Then press on up (above enter, not ch.up). Everytime you press on "up", "TV" should flash as it is trying a different code. I believe there is 162 codes in the remote. Once you find one that turns the TV off, press on enter. If "TV" flashes 3 times and none of them turn the TV off; no luck, you tried all the codes in the scanning mode. If you do find the code and pressed on enter, make sure it is the one by pressing 0-3 and trying ch up/down and volume. Good luck

Thanks, but I've tried scanning (spent 1/2 hr scanning).

Also, it dosn't turn the TV on or OFF, and SC Tech support is less savvy then an 80yr old grandmother.

Gee, I'm sure they love you too! Remote control issues are a PITA. Unfortunately no manufacturer can ever encompass every code for every piece of equipment available in the market, especially if the equipment in question is released after the codeset for the remote has been designed.

The only way to fix the issue would be to provide learning remotes and I doubt *C or any other provider would do that because they'd be too difficult for the average user to operate.

I got it to control my old Panasonic DVD/VCR combo. Thanks for the tip. I have no manual.
