: Sirius Lifetime member
Well I went to Satellite Radio source yesterday and picked up a Sirius Streamer GTR (Replay), the little boombox (for the kids) and a home kit.
Hummed and hawed about what subscription to get and finally my wife and I figured we'd go whole hawg and got the lifetime. I figure that it pays for itself in about 3 years and I don't have to worry about the price going up.
I'll let you know in a few years if I made the right decision ;)
Anyway, I have programmed 30 presets.
I'm having some issues with reception around the house but currently listening to 1st wave and I like it.
Will keep you posted on my progress!
Kieran 2006-07-09, 11:56 AM Hey Hugh,
Welcome to satellite radio....its about time my friend ;)
I too got a lifetime sub and it is nice not having "another" monthly bill to think about....enjoy...Kieran
Mexicanuck 2006-07-09, 03:54 PM I went lifetime as well. I will however, likely get monthly bills. as we are likey to get a second receiver added on for $7.99/month.
BTW, when you get the email confirming your lifetime subscription, you may be a bit disconcerted as I was. My email receipt did not refer to a lifetime subscription, it said I had a "subscription term" of 168 weeks.
I sent them email about this, as I had bought a lifetime subscription. They wrote back confirming the lifetime subscription and said the 168 weeks was the number of weeks payment made. It struck me as a poor way of providing a record of the type of subscription.
Mexicanuck, Thanks for the heads up.
I think I will be getting a second receiver in a few months for my daughter!
Sniper18 2006-07-10, 01:27 PM So when you buy a lifetime subscription, you still pay monthy for roughly 3 years, then the payments stop, but service keeps going? or do you pay in one lump sum?
Mexicanuck 2006-07-10, 02:58 PM One lump sum payment.
Dioneo 2006-07-10, 03:52 PM And the "lifetime" is the lifetime of the unit, not yourself, right?
Yes but if your unit dies you can transfer it to a new unit for $75 (to a maximium of three times).

I think if it dies under warranty, there is no charge and I don't think it counts toward the three changes. (I may be wrong and the terms of service at http://www.siriuscanada.ca/terms-e.htm aren't very helpful.)
People can also do the transfers when they buy different equipment. And in this field, it seems that people like to do that a fair bit.
You're right. inside warranty - you don't pay , outside the warranty you pay $75 up to three times.

Most often the fee is waved in the US, so if Sirius Canada uses the same business model, the same may be true. I have yet to read of anyone being charged the $75.
Even when your last radio dies after 3x changes, you can still listen on-line forever and activate radios under the family plan for only $7.99/month (or whatever the fee will be in the future).
Assuming Sirius Canada stays around for the longterm and you really enjoy satellite radio, then the Lifetime sub could be a really great deal...

This may have changed because of the confusion it was causing. I never got an e-mail confirming my sub but I did get an invoice with Sirius Canada'a "welcome package", that noted I had paid for the Lifetime plan.
Sniper18 2006-07-11, 08:30 AM One last question. If you buy the lifetime subscription for you unit, and then get a second unit which you also want to buy the lifetime subscription for, do they charge you full price for the second subscription or is it like half like the monthly subscription?

A second subscription is based on a $7.99/month rate, so equal to 5.7 years at the lifetime subscription rate.
You can, however, get multi-year additional subscriptions at a rate lower than $7.99/month.
If you wanted a second lifetime subscription, it would be the regular price.
Do they publish multi-year rates for addtional subs?
My wife and I were thinking that in a few months that if we all get into it then we might have 2 or 3 subscriptions so I'd be interested in seeing the pricing.

I didn't know about the multi-year pricing until I sent them an email enquiring whether the $7.99 pricing was available for lifetime subscriptions.
(The website is ambiguous on that point. The notice says it is available for "the above plans", but the description of the lifetime plan is below the notice.)
They confirmed the $7.99 plan by email and included information about the other options available.
I can post the information here if you want, but you may want to get it directly from them. Also, I won't be at my home computer much for the next week or so.

Here is a cut-and-paste from the email they sent me.
Don't worry you're certainly eligible for this great discount! Our website is simply saying that the discount can be applied to any additional subscription, except the Lifetime.
Multi receiver rates:
Monthly- $7.99 + tax
Quarterly- $23.97 + tax
Semi-Annual- $47.94 + tax
1-Year Plan- $95.88 + tax
2-Year Plan- $191.76 + tax
3-Year Plan- $287.64 + tax
Lifetime Plan- $549.99 + tax
The plans that are longer than monthly don't seem like a deal. They are simply the number of months, multiplied by $7.99. I guess they are a "hedge" for someone who thinks that Sirius Canada rates will increase during a period of time.
Thanks. They aren't a deal but frankly i might still be tempted by a one or two year plan becuase of the hedge and the convenience of knowing you've paid.

That is what I did. I have one "Lifetime" sub and a 2nd sub that I pay for once a year. No savings on the 2nd sub but it is just one less monthly bill to think about.
My "Lifetime" radio is the one that is in the boombox and used 100% of the time in the house. If well cared for, it should last a few years. The 2nd radio is in my car and the one I take travelling.
Seeing the price increase by XM makes you think that "locking" in prices is not a bad idea either
