Every day on the Digital Home Forums, posts are deleted.

Although we get complaints, the reality is that beyond obvious spam we might only delete one or two posts a day.

This means less than 1/4 of 1% of posts are deleted.

Of those that get deleted, the vast majority that are deleted are obvious infractions of the rules.

If you have had a post deleted, we recommend that you first read this thread and the applicable rules before complaining.

Our experience is that most deleted posts run afoul for the reasons listed below.

Violating the Rules of Forum (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=3746) is the #1 reason for posts being deleted.

Most frequently violated rules include:

Spammer - First time poster (or new member) posts a great website /deal/ link and claims its really a great website/deal/link.
Commercial Selling - we do not allow selling of any type of product or service in forum threads. If you wish to sell or promote a product or service on this site then you are required to pay for advertising.
Cross Posting - posting the same question or comment in two threads is not allowed. We typically delete both posts. Our experience is that if we only delete one of the posts, many people will continue to be repeat offenders.
Posting other peoples email addresses or names without their consent - No email addresses or contact information of individuals should be posted without that persons consent. When posting responses from organizations that have been emailed to you, members must remove the senders email, name and any contact information beyond the standard CSR type email address.
Rudeness and Flaming - denigrating other members with criticism and sarcastic comments is not acceptable. If you have an issue with a post or someone's behavior then use the Report Bad Post feature. We welcome diverse points of view but we will not tolerate illegal, obscene, rude, racist and intolerant behavior.
Posting Retail Links - posting weblinks to a retailer is not allowed anywhere in the forum. This is to discourage spammers and also because retail links often expire quickly. Please use Manufacturer's links instead

From the rules

Feedback and Appeals
Questions about why a post has been deleted should be sent to VSAdmin (the administrator) via private message. Posting further threads asking why your post was deleted or complaining about is not allowed and will result in suspension.

General feedback – general feedback about the operation or suggestions to improve this site is welcome, however, it must be posted in the Member feedback forum or the post will be deleted.

FINAL NOTE:

Just because you don't see your post, don't assume its been deleted. Often posts are merged or moved. To find you post, please use the MY POSTS link under the Quick Links dropdown.

One last note.

Another reason for deletion is what I call the "sucks thread" but is more commonly known as trolling. (see What is a troll and what is trolling? (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=36340) for more details)

This is where a member posts a brief thread that goes something like this.

Subject: Company X sucks

Message: These guys really suck because their price is too high.

or

These guys are idiots.

Generally we have some rant threads where people can rant but typically we delete these posts because they are simply trolling.
