: ON - Bowmanville, Peterborough, Trenton, Kawarthas - OTA
tlamothe 2008-03-08, 03:17 PM Yeah, that happens.Try to get one thing, lose something else.
Do you have a motor to move the antenna cause it sure beats using the broom stick to move the antenna. I know from experience.
The other thing is the weather is horrible today and the signal might not be getting to you. Peterborough is deep fringe for Buffalo.
If you do have a rotor, you may want to try swinging the antenna to the south and see if you are able to pull channels out of Rochester.
As a side note on your receiver, according to my local CBS station's blog, only 3 set top boxes will do both ATSC and NTSC.
canadianrage43 2008-03-08, 04:20 PM Yeah i point is to the south a bit to the east gets me best results so I think that is rochester. I dont get anything pointed towards Toronto or to the east.
tlamothe 2008-03-08, 07:20 PM Just a question, where were you pointing when you got CBC as that comes from Toronto. The American channels you listed digital were definitely Buffalo's though. If you are using a rotor, don't trust the inside control module, go have a look at the antenna outside for the direction. I used to have a module that would lie to me all the time for direction. Its funny that you would get Toronto and Buffalo pointing SSE from Peterborough.
For your convenience, here are the Rochester channels and I listed them as you'll see them and have their actual broadcast channel in brackets.
8-1 (45) CBS
10-1,10-2 (58) NBC and Weather
13-1, 13-2 (59) ABC, CW
21-1,2,3,4 (16) PBS-HD,PBS World, Create/Thinkbright, SD version of the Analog broadcast
31-1 (28) Fox
The fact you aren't seeing anything today doesn't surprise me, its terrible weather and you are far enough out of Buffalo that you are going to have days like these. Are you still seeing CBC (5.1) from Toronto in this weather though?
canadianrage43 2008-03-08, 08:21 PM CBC I am not getting right now. I put on a splitter to get analog and digital and I think it made things a bit worse. Yeah I am getting buffalo channels. I get rochester on analog so maybe the motor tuner is off.
canadianrage43 2008-03-09, 05:37 PM I get CBC now fine. I have a hard time getting CBS and ABC now. Those are my two fav for basketball in HD!
stampeder 2008-03-09, 07:23 PM canadianrage43, are you seeing our questions here and in the ATSC Tuner thread? ;)
canadianrage43 2008-03-18, 07:52 PM yes I am, I am now picking up 35, 31 and 21!!!
I just put up a new CM4228 with CM7777 preamp and rotator and I'm quite happy with the reception. We're in the Kawarthas on top of a hill.
On digital, we get
CBC
CTV
City
SunTV
Radio Canada.
We're also get good signal strength on several Buffalo channels
ABC
NBC
CBS
CW
PBS
No FOX digital, only analogue. Rochester is too weak to get a digital lock.
Wednesday evening saw some ducting. Analogue channel 31 from Woodstock was crystal clear (221 km), also Ch28 TVO from Kitchener (185 km). 35-1 Crossroads from Hamilton was a 10/10 (149 km) which I usually don't get.
dataiv 2008-04-30, 09:56 PM In Kingston with rabbit ears, I am able to get, with a high SNR and no dropouts, the following on my ATSC tuner (Hauppage WinTV PVR-1600 in my computer). My back wall (where I put the rabbit ears near) faces Watertown NY almost dead on.
7.1 WWNY-DT (CBS HD)
7.2 WNYF-SD (FOX28 SD)
16.1 PBS-1
16.2 PBS-2
16.3 PBS HD
50.1 ABC HD
50.2 TheCW SD
I live just 20 KM north of Kingston Ontario in a small village. I have a relatively new RV trailer that we use throughout the summer. Our first camping trip this year took us to a state park near Watertown New York. I had been wanting to get an LCD TV for the trailer and so I picked up a 22" Insigna LCD in Watertown. Most RV trailers have a small TV antenna which I believe is made by Wineguard. You manually crank the antenna up into position on the roof of the RV. From inside you can easily rotate the antenna to any direction. These antennas also have a built in booster which can be turned off and on.
After getting the TV back to the trailer I connected it to the RV antenna, turned on the booster and did a channel scan. The TV found several digital channels from the Watertown area as well as one from Rochester. The picture quality of the local network stations were good, and the PBS HD channel was very good. The Rochester channel was not stable.
This was my first opportunity to see how OTA digital TV worked and I was impressed. When I returned home to the Kingston area I assumed that I would be out of range for the Watertown channels, however I was surprised to find that I could still receive them when the trailer was parked in my driveway. I did a rescan to see if any Canadian channels would come in but I don't seem to receive any channels other then the ones from Watertown.
All in all it was a pleasant surprise to find that I could receive these channels from my home with a simple RV antenna. Thanks.
spitfire 2008-05-29, 07:56 AM Hi. i,m new on the block..recieved my tuner last week, just waiting for my antenna to show, maybe today or tomorow..then i,ll be doing the big scan..to see what i can pick up..think peterborough is about 600 feet above sea level..and i,m on the 9th floor facing east and clear view to the south..but corner of building will block aiming antenna toward cn tower..oshawa ,buffalo not in line of site.. antenna is DB8..no pre amp yet,,wait to see what i can get before i order one...probly will need it though. ..eny ways will let you know how it turns out......have a good one.
chungdokwan 2008-06-07, 01:37 PM Dunc,
i am in Dunsford. Who did your install? I have been looking for someone to install a tower for me for a while. I also have a CM 4228 and eagerly awaiting OTA channels.

16.3 is an HD channel..great picture...still waiting for my preamp to show monday i hope ...have a good one...will try again tonight.
Dunc,
i am in Dunsford. Who did your install?I installed it myself with some galvanised conduit from Home Depot braced to the side of the house. The signals have weakened a little in the past couple months. I suspect that's due to the increased foliage. I currently get all Toronto stations reliably. I get 11.0 Hamilton, however I can't get 18.1 Hamilton because I'm drowned out by 18.0 Peterborough. Buffalo stations are mostly good too.
chungdokwan 2008-06-17, 04:24 PM Dunc,
What is your elevation?
thanks
This is giving me hope.:p
Where did you source your CM 7777 preamp?
I'm on top of a hill at 320 metres. I bought the CM7777 down at Able TV in Whitby.
chungdokwan 2008-06-18, 04:23 PM Thanks Dunc.
I got my CM 4228 from Yaamon.

spitfire 2008-06-24, 10:02 AM found this today:When will CHEX begin broadcasting it's television signal over the air in HDTV?
Current plans are to begin 16:9 "widescreen" transmission in the next six months.
We plan, if everything proceeds on schedule, to start distributing an HD signal to cable and satellite providers in 2009. HD over-the-air transmission will follow.
Industry Canada now says all over-the-air transmission must be digital by 2011. Our assigned PTH HDTV channel is 34 for Peterborough and 48 for our Oshawa based station....lol well,at least i,ll beable to pick up 1 digital station full time, all the time.

Matt2112 2008-07-04, 04:42 PM So far I have been able to get quite a few channels - but I noticed that there is alot of redundancy.
I still cannot get CityTV HD, Global,CHCH or CFTO....just nothing....but CBC CBLT works fine. Am I doing something wrong?
I have A ChannelMaster 4228 on my roof with a six foot pole (I can see the lake from my house and on a clear day - Buffalo and the CN Tower!), Channelmaster Rotor, RG6 for cabling, Spartan 300 Amp, and Hisense HDTV Box.
