ux_fta_tv 2011-09-01, 10:25 PM Try your CM4228 again with your CM7777 preamp.
Make sure the internal switch on the preamp is in the correct position for combined UHF/VHF.
Make sure your coax is connected to combined input not the VHF only input.
Also check your coax cable and ensure its in good shape.
Make sure there is no splitter between the preamp and power supply.
Note: I use the same set-up CM4428HD and CM7777. It works very well.
After climbing the tower switching the CM4228/CM7777 with the coax from the old antenna - to no avail, I went back up to switch everything back before it got too dark, but this time decided to also switch to a different coax between the CM4228 and the CM7777 ... and to my complete and utter delight - it works amazingly well ... I now get 3.1, 5.1, 9.1, 19.1, 25.1, 35.1 (Peterborough!) 41.1 all at 90%-100% signal/quality. I now get analog 12 clear as a bell (CBC Peterborough). I also get a hint of a bunch of Buffalo stations (7.1, 4.1, 17.1, 29.1) - so who knows - maybe if I remove the old antenna and move this CM4228 up a bit higher, I might pickup a few of these other stations ... there is always hope :D
Thanks for egging me on to discover the problem! I was pretty much ready to give up. The one thing I thought was good - the coax between the preamp and the antenna turned out to be the problem ... lesson learned - try switching everything!
Brightonian 2011-09-02, 08:14 AM Glad to hear you got it solved.
You very likely could get the buffalo stations.
Also you will eventually get the omni channels and city tv when they up their signal.
itpro007ca 2011-09-02, 09:55 AM AFAIK,from what info I have found online,CICO channel 18 Analog and SRC 44 Analog are listed as Harwood,ON(it's actually quite a distance east of Harwood,ON.In fact, the tower is actually on county rd. 9,just west of hwy. 45) and Global channel 27 is listed as "Baltimore,ON(not sure of it's actual location)."
I'd like to see it go to 42,preferably DT,then It'll come in even better!
stampeder 2011-09-02, 05:48 PM You can look them up and get their map coordinates too from the Ontario page here:

Nice work, I always trust my gut!
wilspin 2011-09-02, 06:10 PM AFAIK, analog stations operating after the deadline no longer receive protection, and must protect digital stations. If you are within CITY-DT's protected contours, you definetely have grounds for a complaint. You could call the Industry Canada Spectrum Mangement Regional office, but you should probably talk to CITY/Rogers first.
Problem is we are way out of CITYTV contour. Only good equipment allowed us to receive it. If someone in Durham/Oshawa could lead the complaint as both 44 contours overlap there.
Murbray 2011-09-02, 09:40 PM I moved to Brighton a couple of years ago and have only been using an indoor antenna (RCA flat panel) and have had pretty fair reception this way. I am ready to go outdoors and have a 35 foot tower to hook up to. the previous owner had BEV for their TV and the antenna and tower were not used for some time. Anyone in the Brighton area can give me insight on what they get before I go this route. Thanks and am very delighted by this forum. Great insight!
itpro007ca 2011-09-02, 10:05 PM Thanks,Stampeder. That's a great site.I was looking at it the other day.
Brightonian 2011-09-03, 09:19 AM Welcome Murbray...
It depends somewhat on where you live in Brighton what stations you will receive. I receive up to 50+ stations during Summer months down by the lake shore. You can expect to get all of the locals and Rochester stations year round and Buffalo, Syracuse and Toronto channels much of the time.
If you already have a tower I would definitely take advantage of that.
Perhaps your antenna that is already on there is in good shape?
If not you can easily put up a CM4228HD, which is a fairly small inexpensive outdoor antenna that has excellent UHF performance and adequate VHF performance.
You will however sacrifice VHF LO, ex. Channel 6.
itpro007ca 2011-09-03, 11:25 AM >>Screwed again, in Eastern Ontario.
You got it!
Chex-TV had previously reported,as posted by someone on here.some months ago, that they would be going digital by the end of the year(unless I read it wrong),but now,it becomes 'in a year,or two":

Brightonian 2011-09-03, 09:25 PM Can you receive CKWS-DT1 on RF30 well in Belleville?
Murbray 2011-09-04, 10:52 AM Brightonian - I am up at Telephone Rd. and Bullis Rd. One of the higher points in the area. I did receive the Kingston 30-1 once or twice but it isn't currently coming in. I do get the 10 and 13 rochester channels and 6 11 and 12 analog channels. This seems to be the norm with my current indoor antenna. I have on occasion had 20+ digital channels but only a couple of times a month and obviously the weather dictates what we get. I was advised that the antenna that is already on my tower is as good as you can get nowadays so it will be my first attempt. I moved from Ajax in 2009 and wanted to get away from the 200+ channels and the monthly big bill from Rogers, so the antennae routs was a perfect way to do that.
Brightonian 2011-09-04, 11:28 AM You are lucky to be in a high elevation..... though I believe on that side of Brighton you will likely have less chance of picking up the Toronto stations.
If your current antenna is a VHF/UHF combo, you will have no problem getting the Rochester stations.
8.1 WROC (CBS)
8.2 BounceTV
10.1 WHEC (NBC)
10.2 Weather
13.1 WHAM (ABC)
13.2 The CW
21.1 PBS
21.2 PBS World
21.3 PBS ThinkBright
26.1 TVO Plainfield
30.1 CKWS-DT Brighton (CBC)
31.1 WUHF (FOX)
31.2 The Cool TV
51.1 ION
51.2 Qubo
51.3 ION Life
6.0 CJOH Deseronto (CTV)
11.0 CKWS (CBC)
18.0 TVO Harwood
27.0 Global Harwood
36.0 Home Shopping Network
These are the minimum you should get... you will often get all of the Buffalo and Syracuse stations, and many others.
I would recommend a using a pre-amp and a rotor. Perhaps your antenna already has one?
Once you are set up, you will likely be pleased with the results... FREE TV!
itpro007ca 2011-09-04, 04:59 PM Correction:
Global ch. 27 is at Baltimore,ON
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIII-DT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIII-DT)
click on the lat/long in the right column.
For me,according to my TV Fool Report,Harwood is 214T deg.,Baltimore is 209T
itpro007ca 2011-09-04, 06:45 PM Since all my channels come from different directions,ie:
nw,284 deg T,35.1,CFTO,CTV,Bobcaygeon
WNW,274 degT,12,CHEX,CBC,Peterborough,ON
SSW,214 degT,18,CICA,TVO,Harwood,ON
SSW,209 degT,27,CIII,Global,Baltimore,ON
SSW,214 degT,44,CBLFT,SRC,Harwood,ON
Rochester,NY @83,5 mi,SSE @ 167 deg T...
I am thinking of doing the following:
WNW/NW-cm2016hd
SSW -cm2016hd -vhf dipole disconnected
SSE -YA1713 vhf-hi
-91XG
cm7777 preamp
Since I haven't won the lottery yet,I'll be doing this one antenna at a time, but I just want to hear from anyone else that is doing antenna combining and also anyone specifically using the cm2016hd(a lot of positive reviews on Amazon for this antenna) and from anyone who can tell me whether this will work, before I shell out.
I might,at least buy one 2016hd and try it....either just to see if it'll exceed its range and pull in Rochester,or at least get CKWS-DT1 @ Brighton,ON,or CFTO -DT at Bobcaygeon,On @ 30 miles nw.
*The ONLY 2 digital channels in our area, since the rest of the broadcasters around here are dragging their feet!
btw: Would a YA1713/91 XG combo be too heavy,or too much windload for a chimney?
(My local tv guy was able to secure the tower, but said it wasn't safe to climb! He also said,it should only be 20 ft above roof level, not 30....anyway,I can at least mount antenna on the side at roof level.)
Got to get at least 1 hd channel, lol!
PrinceLH 2011-09-04, 08:03 PM What I did not mention in my earlier post, the letter following the link was E Mailed to the program director in the article. Should be an interesting response, when and if it arrives. And yes, I do get CKWS RF30, here in Belleville. It comes in around 70%. Too bad CKWS RF11 doesn't get with it. I hate trying to watch CKWS news and WWNY's, out of Watertown, at the same time, now that I have to swing the rotor to the west. Keep your analog crap CORUS. Maybe CORUS should have saved some of the money that they spent on their new headquarters, down near Queen's Quay, in Toronto. Their new offices are better than what I saw at News Corp(FOX News) in New York. Their excuse about cost, doesn't jive, once you see their new digs on the Toronto waterfront.
Murbray 2011-09-04, 10:46 PM Does anyone out there have one of the Nippon UDF80 Antenna's? I am interested in getting on as I have read a bit about them and it sounds quite good.
tlamothe 2011-09-05, 12:40 AM PrinceLH, I like you am disappointed in both CKWS not transitioning RF11 in Kingston as anyone who is using OTA has a digital box for the american channels. I refuse to watch anything on CKWS except news. And unfortunately, I can't get RF30 from here.
TVO is using either Bell or Shaw as the feed for the Belleville and Cloyne transmitters. I am hoping we'll see a change somewhere in the future and get us 1080i at some point. I plan to write TVO and see what can be done. I am getting it when pointed west at about 50%.
stampeder 2011-09-05, 02:58 AM Murbray you can do a LOT better than with one of those. Here's a thread on those overpriced, underperforming antennas: Nippon antenna (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=96369)
If it's not on the Antenna Chart I would not buy it. ;)
wilspin 2011-09-05, 10:09 AM Since all my channels come from different directions,ie:

I found combining them was problematic; always one station wiped out and could not be corrected. How may tuners R U feeding? Guy wires will solve the tower @ 30 ft problem.
