I just got my sbgh up on my antenna to-day, i did a scan and come up with new channel' s i did not have before. I was just wondering if some one could tell me where these tower's are located, 5.1-WTVH, 9.1-WSYR, 24.1-.2-.3-.4 WCNY. I tried other site's, but to no avail. Thank's: Swampdogger.:D
You're getting Syracuse with those frequencies. You should also try to pull in Watertown, if you can get the Syracuse locals.

I am in Port Hope, Ontario.I just put up a with DB 8 antenna with CM 7777 Preamp, no rotor. I am getting a surprising number of channels with the antenna pointed SW including the major American networks

ABC
NBC
CBS
Fox
CW
WNED
WXXI
MyTV and others

and some Canadian networks

TVO
CHEX
CKWS
Gobal
City (which comes in pretty snowy).

However I cannot seem to pull in CBC Toronto even though that is a fairly strong signal . I tried pointing the antenna to the West but still weak or no picture. The antenna is about 18' high on a mast on the south side of our house (1 1/2 storeys). It seems strange that I can pull in Peterborough which is to the North and not a strong broadcast but not CBC Toronto. I look forward to cancelling my Starchoice account which has gotten worse in quality over the last year or so.

I have a Samsung LN T3242H LCD

Try punching in 50-0, the analog signal- I can get it on good dx days.

Can someone help me to what direction this goes? Maybe I'm too far out but just checking if someone can give me directions.

The WWNY signal, on VHF, is a little further north than the WWTI and WPBS signals, that are on UHF. WWNY is on 7.1 VHF, WWTI is on 21.1 UHF and WPBS is on 41.1 UHF. Maybe a manual scan may suit your needs.

gordie69, don't forget to read through this thread for your area to see how others have done near you.

There are great online tools to help you predict and aim at OTA stations near your location, so a good starting point is Post #10 in the OTA FAQ for step-by-step instructions. :)

Specifically, what's the problem? Can you provide more details on how you've set up the antenna? (i.e. where it's mounted, what type of coax is being used, etc) Are you using an amp? Have you scanned for channels?

Your antenna is a decent 4-bay clone, and should easily pick up Rochester, NY.

I'm in Frankford north of Trenton and can't pick anything yet two weeks ago I could barely get fox 31 and two 13's but now nothing. Just wondering if its just the waiting for June 12 change or am out of range.

Gordie 69,

You're in a black hole for TV it seems. Here's your TV fool report based on an antenna mounted 20ft up.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d7f1497757818ff

Any Canadian stations in your area are not digital, & won't be any time soon. The U.S stations are all coloured grey, and are listed as very unlikely for reception from your location.

Even with a 50ft tower, you don't have a single station listed with a path of LOS (Line-of-sight). You must be in a valley I take it?

For all my efforts, 64' tower, double stacking of CM 4228 and a CM7777, i find i end up resorting to c-band FTA since i get no pixelation. Oh well, live and learn. I do however get the best darn reception for my locals out of peterborough and the repeater stations. ;)

Need some advice guys,
I am moving the end of next month to a house north of Kingston. Nice tower attached to the house but I think I will have to rewire the antenna (or replace, need to learn how to build a DGBH). My big concern though is the proximity to the transmitters for CBLTF (32), CICO (38), and CKWS (11). 32 and 38 are 2.2 miles from my new house and 11 is about 11 miles. To hit anything out of Syracuse and need to shoot pretty much through them. What should I be doing to weaken these channels? Notch filters for 11, 32, and 38?

I would like to make sure channel 35 is not attenuated as eventually WNYF will be broadcasting in HD on low power from their old tower they were using for WWNY before the cutover to VHF.

Ya, those stations could be a problem. I'm a believer in testing first and then buying gear to solve problems, so is it possible to try it out in an unfiltered configuration first?

The 2 worst types of interference in cases like yours would be CCI and ACI (Co-Channel and Adjacent-Channel Interference, respectively) so are any of those local channels on or beside any of the Syracuse ones?

As you say, notch filters are one option and if the stations are indeed clobbering the desired Syracuse station(s) I would try that solution first.

A further option if the notch filter idea is just not getting it done is a dedicated Antennas Direct 91XG corner reflector yagi-uda pointed directly at the desired station.

All good idea's for those Syracuse stations. Most of them, save channel 9 (17.1) will be staying UHF, and I believe that both 24 and 25 will be both used, as well as 19 and 47 for most of the Syracuse major networks. You may also try hitting Utica/Rome, but have not been lucky this year, here in Belleville, but did last year.

On Watertown, it appears that channel 35's UHF antenna has been moved to the south side of the tower that 7 broadcasts from. I was in Watertown, 3 weeks ago, and took a look at the tower and it appears that they have rearranged the secondary transmitter. It may be almost ready for them to fire up, because I lost WWNY's signal, in the daylight hours, for two days this week, leading to the speculation that they lowered their ERP, so they could work on the tower, getting ready for June 12th. Hopefully, they throw the switch on 35, on that day.

Hi tlamothe
for my watertown channels my antenna is looking at ckws 11 tower. Im about 8 miles from
it. I seem to have no problems from ckws. If you build a DGBH let me know how it works
here. I have been thinking of trying to building one too!

Just for the fun of it I hooked up my Dynex 32" to the old antenna at our house. Tower is about 50', rotor does not work, old RG 59 cable my guess at least 15 plus years. Put a 10db gain amp in the line. Iam getting all Buffalo stations most of the time except in bad weather. Rochester stations can be a little flakey. Anyway p.q., is great sure beats the hell out of Bell TV. Will shorty be replacing the old RG59 with RG6.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I'll keep you advised with how I make out. I probably won't have a chance to start playing with the antenna until mid-late July.

I bought a hd antenna with analog to digital receiver and was trying to put it on my roof but now thinking about waiting till June 12/09 and then trying again unless I'm not aim right

Why wait ?

Go ahead put it up and tune in at least 20 channels in digital broadcast
and around 12 in HD in the Toronto area.

Enjoy!
