Has anyone been able to get any info from Expressvu about the channel launch? Do we need an equipment upgrade? It's shown up in BEV's stream at 91°, so you shouldn't need a dual sat. system to get it.

Thta's possible but all previous RWC's were held on TSN or RSN. And that doesn't explain the disappearance of all other rugby. Fox Sportsworld used to show Super 12 (now 14) and Tri-Nations but not for the last few years and I don't know that the IRB controls the rights for those series - wouldn't they be held by the SA, NZ and Aus Rugby Federations?
Wayne, from what I can work out at this stage Setanta will not be available for a while on Star Choice - switching back to Rogers isn't an option for us. So I was under the impression that if you didn't have access to Setanta one's only option was $199 PPV package. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone?)

Also, even if I am able to get it on Star Choice how much of a priority will Setanta give the rugby wc? What if, as seems likely, big rugby matches (on the 14.99 a month option) are being played at the same time as EPL? I suspect I know which will take priority, unless they will have more than one channel(?).

Incidentally, Setanta have also run into problems in the UK. The British press reported today that a key production partner of Setanta has dropped out leaving some of their plans up in the air.

Everything's being done in the last minute - the EPL starts in a few days!

Where is that from? You mean you won't get the RWC if you pay $15/month for the channel?

The downside to this channel is that the best programming that Setanta will carry was available on one of the other channels that people already got - such as Sportsnet, Score, Fox SW, TSN. So with Setanta launching a premium channel you now have to pay much more for what we were used to getting for pretty much nothing.
Oops! I used the wrong quote from Wayne. This is the one that should've been at the top of my last post. Sorry.

Any news as to when Cogeco will have Setanta? It was indicated it would happen soon, but no one seems to know anything.

It appears that Rogers will be carrying this on 429 - currently there is a PPV channel in this slot.

Sorry, if this sounds like a stupid question, but if Setanta is planning to show 2 -3 live matches on Sat assuming most of the matches are 10.00am, while at the same time, Sportsnet is showing a match at 10.00 as well, then how is one supposed to watch all these matches simultaneously if there is only 1 channel (429 Rogers) ? Surely, they must be taped delay so that we can all watch them one right after the other. I also hope I am allowed to record the matches on channel 429 via my PVR since I work on Saturdays.
Thanks.

Looking at the schedule it appears that there games at 7:45 and 12:15 as well on Saturdays, plus three games each Sunday and occasional matches during the week? Therefore Setanta could show 3 on Saturday, Rogers one plus the Score match on Sunday as well as Setanta games on Sunday and the weekend.

The way it is setup on saturdays Setanta will show one live game at 7:45 am eastern, then at 10 am Setanta will show another live game while RSN will also show a live game and finally Setanta a 12.45 pm live game. Setanta will also show one or maybe two (not certain) games on a delay basis on Saturday so that's like 5 or 6 games on Saturday.

On Sundays there are typically two games in the EPL an early game at 8:30 am on Setanta and the second game carried by The Score and ScoreHD :D good to finally see EPL in HD. Weekly games to air on Setanta.

Thats like 8 out of 10 EPL games per week on Canadian Tv which is quite remarkable considering ten years ago the only EPL coverage you could get was on TSN with Graham Leggat and those were not even full games but compressed ones showing only the major highlights

Setanta will also show one or maybe two (not certain) games on a delay basis on Saturday so that's like 5 or 6 games on Saturday. Here is the schedule for Setanta's US channel for this Saturday - it may or may not be the same for their Canadian channel 7:40am Live EPL - Sunderland v Tottenham
9:55am Live EPL - Bolton v Newcastle
12:00pm Live Coca Cola Championship - Wolves v Watford
2:30pm EPL - Everton v Wigan
4:15pm EPL - Sunderland v Tottenham
6:00pm EPL - Bolton v NewcastleSo Setanta's US channel is showing, live or delayed, 3 of the 7 EPL games on Saturday plus a lower division game. It seems strange that they are not carrying the 12:15 game between Liverpool and Aston Villa.

This Sunday the Setanta US channel is only carrying the 8:30 game between Chelsea and Birmingham.

Stevieb,

Wouldn't we in Canada get the 12:15 pm game on Saturday through Setanta since the rights to soccer are a little diffierent in Canada? I would assume that Setanta Canada to differ somewhat from Setanta USA just like FSC in the states differs from FSWC

Will we get the same Setanta that they do in the States?
In particular, i'm concerned about the Rugby and Aussie Rules coverage. Will it be the same?

Yes I would believe that to be true. I was just commenting on a comment from an earlier post

Does anyone have a schedule yet for the Setanta International Sports Pack

I don't think that there should be an issue with rugby or Aussie rules as I believe that Setanta owns all of the Canadian rights for those sports. As regards to rugby - I believe this is why we have not seen Super 14 or TriNations in Canada for a few years as I think Setanta outbid Fox for the North American rights.

There is talk that RSN will carry Canada's games in the RWC. You may not care about that except for Sep 29 when Canada crushes the Wallabies!

A post I found on BigSoccer forums:

INTERVIEW ON EPL TALK with Shane O'Rourke, President of North America and Australia - Setanta Sports, discussing the deal with Canada.

The following are just 'notes' I took down, and don't necessarily represent actual words or phrases used.

Setanta Canada will be different than Setanta US. The major difference is that Setanta Canada will broadcast more EPL games than Setanta US. This is because Fox Soccer Channel handles some of the EPL games in the US.

O'Rourke mentioned 200* EPL games. He confirms that the only deal completed is with Rogers and Bell ExpressVu, and by affiliation, any cable companies feeding off the Rogers 'hub'.

O'Rourke confimed that every EPL game will be shown on Setanta Sports Canada (he called it Setanta International Sports Pack), except the 2nd choice Saturday game at 10 am on Sportsnet and the 11 am game on Sundays. He said that some games will be 'delayed' transmission as there are 4 games usually played at 10 am on Saturday, besides the Sportsnet 2nd choice which is exclusive to that network. He also said that regardless of the number of games played midweek (I think he mentioned Wednesday as an example, besides the normal Monday) that Setanta would show them all.

O'Rourke confirmed that they are in negotiations with Shaw Cable and Star Choice, that he is hopeful that a deal will be done soon, but that viewers should continue to lobby Shaw and Star Choice for Setanta's inclusion. He added that Shaw Cable was 'cool' at first to the idea of adding Setanta, but their interest is gaining. He confirmed that Setanta will not be carrying PPV services for EPL games for those unable to obtain the regular sports pack through their Cable provider.

O'Rourke suggested that those who are unable to obtain the Setanta channel, could purchase Setanta Broadband for the interim.

O'Rourke indicated that Canada will have its own Setanta Broadband (he didn't seem to indicate when, but suggested by August 11) because Setanta Broadband US does not carry some of the EPL games that are broadcast by Fox Soccer Channel. O'Rourke also said that the increased speed transmission to 600K will be introduced soon.

O'Rourke confirmed that, amongst others, the Canadian Sports Pack will include French, Dutch, Scottish leagues, plus Euro and Asian qualifiers, Coca Cola Championship, Carling Cup, Manchester United and Chelsea TV.

O'Rourke confirmed that TSN, through ESPN, will carry Champions League.

O'Rourke said that due to CRTC regulations, Setanta would not (for now) be able to show their 'magazine type shows' in Canada, which they do in the States. Would someone verify this when they listen, please.

O'Rourke explained that, unlike the US, Setanta had to undertake a partnership with an existing Canadian network to abide by CRTC regulations.
If I have any of the interview mis-interpreted, please amend. In case I'm violating any legal rules about reporting an interview, here is the small print:

Sorry! And thanks to EPL Talk - we'll all now go to your site!

* Also, I question the "200 EPL games" comment. Have to work that one out!

That day i'll be a rabid, fanatical Wallabies supporter.
