: Setanta in Canada (General Discussion)
Torontoblue 2011-01-18, 08:52 AM Is setanta hd on shaw in Calgary?
It's not on SHAW period. I guess they are still waiting for enough customers to request the channel to be added. I've been waiting since August, so don't get your hopes up.
I have just received a letter from Rogers advising me that the monthly rate for Setanta is increasing to $16.99 from $14.99 per month.
Is anyone receiving any discounts or incentives on Setanta from Rogers?
Digital79 2011-01-18, 01:12 PM It's already 16.99 on Bell thats why I wanted to switch to Shaw,
that and other Shaw discounts they offered me,
but if its only SD guess I have to stick with Bell for now.
Shaw is always late for HD sports it seems,
I would be with Shaw now but it took them so long to offer NHL Center Ice.
TV is becoming a total rip off in my opinion
and the recent price increases have put me closer to cancelling than ever before.

My math's not as good as it used to be--but what's that a 14 per cent increase? How do they justify that?

I haven't got the letter yet but paying more for less doesn't make sense. I find a lot of the games are on TSN2 or Sportsnet. It is a pain to figure out.
Last year I felt I was getting my money's worth. Now I need to subscribe to 2 things. The HD speciality package for TSN 2 and Setanta.
Not happy.
It's just typical these days of businesses in general. Bell took away HD Net and Fox Sports World Canada and so far I've noticed that I'm only $2 less than the previous monthly charge. This is their way of ensuring their bottom line stays the same. Setanta won't gain anything extra from me with this increase. Whereas I would never bother to cancel between the soccer seasons, but I sure will from now on.
^^^^^^
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I never bothered cancelling over the slow summer months, but I'm thinking I might do that. Even if it's for June and July I save $34.
robin100 2011-01-21, 04:32 PM I assume when prices goes up both parties may in fact benefit? However, to be fair on this one, this is the first Setanta increase since it started its programming (4 years ago?). On that basis maybe not too surprising because I am sure EPL rcontract rates have gone up probably twice in that time.
Boca Junior 2011-02-19, 04:56 PM Dreadful day on Setanta. Numerous problems in the FA Cup coverage. Loss of picture, picture freezing up. Even the Stoke/Brighton game shown on delay has frozen.
Not good enough.
bucketo 2011-02-19, 05:05 PM ...but my team beat out Chelsea @ Stamford Bridge no less so its a great day! :)

It really is a good day to be an Evertonian :D
As for Setanta, no picture problems here in Edmonton; we're still on SD.
giner 2011-02-19, 10:24 PM Hi. What channel is Setanta on with Telus in Edmonton? And does anyone know of any free preview coming up? Thanks.
doglips 2011-03-06, 07:11 PM Watched Bolton-Villa on sportsnet hd which was broadcast by setanta in hd allegedly, what an awful picture which is put to shame by the espn broadcasts!
Are their hd broadcasts always so poor? I swear the Lille-Marseille game on fox in sd was almost as good and the regular setanta sd games not far behind. :o
NB Josh 2011-03-06, 07:22 PM Setanta's HD quality has always been poorer than Sportsnet, FSC and ESPN. I don't have a clue why to be honest and they always claim that it isn't true.
SportsFan 2011-03-07, 01:49 AM When did Shaw add Setanta HD?
NB Josh 2011-03-07, 03:34 AM Never. I'm judging by the games that Sportsnet shows on Saturday night using the Setanta feed (even has the Setanta bug in the corner) and highlights I've seen on other networks. The Setanta games on Sportsnet just don't look as crisp as the games that Sportsnet gets the feed directly from England.
scouser 2011-03-19, 07:28 AM What a nice suprise to see Skysports coverage of English super League Rugby back to Setanta after a few years missing and in HD to boot. Sure beats the union code.
Wayne 2011-03-19, 11:27 AM Sure beats the union code. Not everyone agrees with that!

What makes league better is they actually score tries in the game and are not constantly kicking and scrumming/rucking. More action. Its too bad there are people out there who like the poorer quality union version.

There hasn't been that much kicking in the last few years and lately even England is playing an entertaining brand of rugby, last week's game vs Scotland at Twickenham excepted.
