Setanta HD on channel 569 Rogers this morning. Old time match Arsenal vs.? explains the picture in SD. Curious to see the quality of HD. Hope it is not 'stretched' HD. No mention
of free-preview and cost. Wait and see.

I am not home to check this out right now but do you notice a difference in picture quality between 429 and 569? I often find that the picture quality for Setanta is poor but I don't know if this is due to low bandwidth here in Canada or if this is poor bandwidth in the satellite feed to Canada from overseas - note that I just watch rugby on Setanta which often comes from South Africa, NZ or Aus.

This doesn't look good. Just checked "New" and "Free Preview" channels on BellTV and all mention of Setanta HD has disappeared. There's still a free preview of Setanta SD slated for Aug 13 -22.

Wayne.

I've watched a bit today and am watching the rugby game now. The picture is much clearer on the HD channel than the SD one. Players are more crisp and not washed out. The game isn't in HD but the feed is much easier on the eyes. I won't be going back to the SD channel now. Looking forward to the 1st HD game.

I'm watching Rogers.

That's weird. I'm not seeing Setanta HD anywhere on Rogers.

There is a rugby game on now that is in HD. While it's not perfect HD it's 100 times better than the SD channel right now. Looking forward to the 1st televised EPL game in HD to see how it fares.

So is Rogers the only carrier who is comitted to Setanta HD so far? What about Bell, Cogeco, Shaw etc?

The Norwich vs Watford soccer game is playing live now on Setanta. Did some flipping back and forth between SD and HD channels on Rogers and it's sweet to have the HD feed now, 100 times better. Like the rugby game last night, not the best HD feed I've seen but man it's nice and clear compared to what we are used to.

Also tested using the Slingbox HD Pro on my local network with both feeds and HD comes across really slick on it too.

I'm in Ottawa and just called Rogers and the Setanta HD is currently only available in and around Toronto.
There will be a free preview from the 13-23 of August.

Anything looks good compared to Setanta SD. :D

Shaw Direct has it on free preview from August 13-22, so maybe this means they will be adding the HD channel as well.

Cogeco still hasn't done anything....E-mail response was pretty generic.

How's the community shield looking on there?

That's because it was widescreen, not HD. I think the mainstream sports from UK will be HD provided transmitted HD in UK but foreign productions, English Championship etc. probably will be widescreen which is still better than 4:3 SD.
