I never did get to view the Andorra v England game. I checked all over Setanta's TV PG and came up with nothing. Setanta gave me the impression at the start of the season that since they had bought the rights to all England away games those games would be made available (LIVE) to their subscribers. They're starting to live up to the suspicions I had about them when they first arrived on the scene. Incidentally, nfitz, here's the UK's Daily Mail web site for further commentary on the subject:

The 'live' coverage blurb is direct from Setanta in the UK for when the channel is just taking the UK feed of the channel. The Andorra game was shown at 19h30 ET on Monday here and the Croatia game will be on at 19h00 ET on Friday...most of the other games are on live or on short delay....I think the England games are shown in footie pubs here in Canada for $20 + entrance fee...I use the following website to figure out which games are on when.

http://frasm.sasktelwebsite.net/footie.html

So far it has been very accurate...all times are eastern...they tend to only list the 1st time the game will be shown.

No. They will have "a selection of live and exclusive home matches involving the England team".

Does anyone know why they aren't showing the Tri Nations finale live? It will be on Saturday, but delayed almost 24 hours.

Most likely because it's being played at 3.05 am Pacific Time and they probably figure they'll get a bigger audience at noon Pacific. That's only a nine hour delay, not 24. I'd imagine they'd also like to avoid running into the Man United v Liverpool coverage which begins at 4.30am.

Okay. I found a start time of 10:05 am on this site Tri Nations Rugby - Fixtures (http://www.trinationsweb.com/fixtures/2008.asp) which I thought would have been prime time Friday in Eastern Canada. I was wrong.

You're right. With the 8 pm local start time it would overlap with Liverpool vs Man Utd, hence the delay.

That start time is 10:05 GMT.

Which means 6 am eastern. That's a little early for those of you on the West Coast I would say.

I'm looking forward to watching it though. I'm just glad that there is finally a place to get consistent rugby on tv in Canada.

I guess Setanta did not renew their rights for Le Championnat football from France. I'm not a big fan but I'd watch it if there's no Spanish match on. Yesterday there was a match listed live for RDS yet there was nothing on Setanta. In fact the French season usually begins in mid-August and I'm yet to see any of it on Setanta.

I believe you're correct. There is no mention of Le Championnat in their list of coverage on the website.

RDS is showing Le Championnat? I missed that. When is it on?

SportsFan,

On Sunday mid-afternoon I went to RDS on the Star Choice TV guide and it said 'Ligue 1' in a two hour time slot. I assumed that was Le Championnat as some times it is just referred to as 'Ligue 1'. But I just checked RDS's website and there is no mention of it. I don't know how to check RDS's schedule for the weekend. There's also no mention of it at the official Le Championnat English language website. So now I'm confused as to what 'Ligue 1' is a reference to.

This is how livesoccertv.com describes it :

France Le Championnat Ligue 1

There are some games on tv5 here in Winnipeg on Shaw, but not as many as last year it seems. There's "soccer" on the guide for noon on Saturday but no other details.

TV5 are showing Le Havre - Lyon this weekend. I haven't seen anything on RDS. I doubt 'Ligue 1' would be anything other than the top division of French soccer.

Setanta still shows Ligue 1 in Europe, but it looks like they've dropped it and the Dutch league here in Canada.

It would appear Le Championnat is back on Setanta. They showed a game today (Saturday) not live, but same-day coverage.

And today as well PSG v Nancy (unless it was just a repeat of Saturday's game).

It's starting to look like Setanta isn't going to show any England World Cup qualifiers live. England's first home qualifier (vs. Kazakhstan) is live on Fox Soccer Channel in the US, but here it's PPV.

GolTV's World Cup qualifiers are more appealing than Setanta's. They have:
Scotland v Norway
Wales v Liechtenstein
Germany v Russia
all live on Saturday.

No, doesn't look like it. Earlier The Setanta CAnada site was showing that they would be carrying the England vs Belarus game live on Wedensday, but now they've changed that to a tape delay of the England v. Kazhakstan. In fact the only live game that day is Greece V. Switzerland. woo hoo.

I don't think Setanta is great for live qualifiers, inspite of their promises. :(

Meanwhile Fox Sportworld Canada has to be the most useless channel ever invented---well, unless you like Women's American College Games.

On Rogers I find the Fox Sportsworld Canada picture quality to be pretty awful compared to most over digital cable channels. I know that often the source for some of these games is poor, but compared to GOLTV, it always looks very compressed. Even their commercials look very compressed! And their logos! Is it just me? Sometimes I figure I could get similiar quality streamed over the Internet.

Unless you support Portugal as, I think, all of their matches have been on live.
