Read earlier as well that Setanta has the England home games and FA Cup from next season.
I think this is just in the UK where Setanta and ITV have partnered to buy the rights. I haven't seen anything about international rights. Anyone?

From what I read on the Setanta website, they purchased the UK broadcasting rights(with ITV). No mention of North America. Doesn't mean it won't happen of course, and if it does, it could mean good-bye FSWC, at least from a soccer standpoint. I believe the FA Cup rights deal with Fox expires at the end of this season, so some changes may be coming.

Well personally I think it's rather poor that it's the most expensive non-porn channel on TV currently, and they can't even provide us with the HD feed.

Waaay back when, the WC and Champion's league finals were being broadcast in HD. The EPL and La Liga were being broadcast in HD, everything was looking good for HD coverage down the line, so I bought HD equipment specifically for soccer coverage.

Then Setanta comes along, buys up all the EPL rights they can, charges us an arm and a leg for it and then doesn't bother with good quality service. Frankly, I'm tired of it and unless they can improve and provide us with a good PQ HD feed soon, I'll be cancelling my subscription. It's just not worth the premium.

Im pretty bummed about the picture quality too. Sportsnet and the Score feeds were ALWAYS better IMO. Just a good standard def signal would be good, forget HD if that isnt in the means right now.

Sentanta often looks just as good as 1.4GB XVID files of matches that I download, which isnt that good!

Can't argue with that. But it's not only the PQ that's sub-standard, it's the amount of "technical difficulties" and picture loss that is hard to accept. Setanta's product is simply not up to expected standards.

But on a slightly unrelated subject. Does anyone know what, if anything, Setanta has planned to replace the live soccer games during the off-season? I'm certainly not paying 15 bucks a month to watch re-runs.

I believe that many of us will cancel from mid may until mid August at least...for those who watch it for the Premier League etc.

FSWC for me is bundled with a whole bunch of channels including Gol TV (which I watch). I can only take bits of the FSWC report (when Bobby is on) and if it wasn't for Sky News and the FA Cup, I'd never watch it. There is only so much John Oakley one can take.

Last summer Setanta USA showed the Asian Cup, but other than Euro 2008, there isn't much soccer going on this summer. Tri Nations rugby will hold some subscribers.

Remember that some providers require 30 days notice to cancel, so call them in mid-April.

Then they should show Tri-Nations rugby live to maintain interest during the summer as we don't need the Setanta International Sports Pack to order games on PPV. There's also plenty of cricket being played June and July when the football season is over so I'd like to see them pick up the rights to some of that.

Well we're probably in the minority, but I agree with you about the cricket. Some good cricket coverage would probably be enough to make me keep my subscription active. Also, isn't Aussie Rules in full swing at that time of year?

For listings, I use www.livesoccertv.com and find it more accurate than Setanta's schedule, IMHO.

The NHL is coming to Setanta. The National Hurling League, that is. Tue 12 Feb they'll be showing the opening round in the top division of Gaelic hurling.

It's the only NHL I'd watch.

Hey, I know we've been round the PQ issue before but I though PQ in the Wales v Sctland rugby match was excellent as were the soccer matches from Sunderland and then Arsenal today. Rugby was from BBC and the others were Setanta's own feed. I've commented before but for some reason the poorer PQ seems to be from Sky. Don't know why as I'm sure they are a quality broadcaster - maybe they are spending ther cash on HD cameras and falling down with the SD, or maybe the foreign-aimed broadcasts? For example, the Sunday 11 am game is from Sky but we get a different commentary team from UK.

When I subscribed to Setanta through Rogers, I was told of the four-month 'commitment' to this channel, which I agreed to. It was just after the free one-month preview was over. Now it's decision-making time. However I would think there's more than just me wondering whether it's worth continuing to subscribe. There hasn't been much, if any, headway on the Sportsnet 2 angle, and really we're getting the same product, more or less, as what we got back in September.

So what are your thoughts? Will you continue to be a Setanta supporter? Are you just hanging in for "The Special One" segments? ;) Or do you have your 4-month anniversary circled on your calendar, waiting for the chance to bail?
